Toyota echo MPG test going over high mountain pass at high speeds, this is the 5 speed manual, 1.5L DOHC, 2003 Toyota Echo. This car is typically know as one of the most fuel efficient gasoline, non-hybrid cars produced. Especially at this price point.

yeah, just did across country twice in this year & model. 40.3mpg with 3 adults and 600 lbs of cargo, and 85mph through TeHas. That's with no-ethanol fuel , with ethanol 38mpg. Needs armrests and cruise control to be the perfect road trip vehicle.

I can get 50 mpg out of my echo but I have to do certain things: be solo not drive over 55 mph have the windows rolled up highway drive for a large distance Generally I get around 36 mpg in the city driving like a maniac with my surfboard strapped to the top: not bad!

I have an echo as well. When you say it's not that loud what are you specifically referring to? Do you mean the outside noise of the roadway? I've heard someone else make that comment but as in this case as well they did not clarify exactly what they meant. My car is relatively loud and seems like it's roadway noise and I also read a comment that sometimes there's tire noise but that's just the way that they made the car so it doesn't mean that anything is wrong with it. What I've also noticed is depending on the type of pavement that I'm driving across some is louder and some is softer But there's always some sort of noise. I Also read that by this car being so inexpensively made even though it's a virtual tank that will almost run forever if taken proper care of they did not put insulation and I don't know where that is and that is why you hear noise. So if you could tell me specifically once again what you were talking about in terms of noise it may be helpful thanks so much! The echo is a very great car!

When I had mine I got pretty good mpg. Winter in the 30s maybe broach 40. Summer, consistently upper 30s into the 40s. Sometimes up to 50. That's driving normally like what the speed limit is, even highway. Great car. I have a Yaris now an 09. I like it too and I know it's the same engine but doesn't get near the mileage as the ECHO. I know there are many factors into that but it's rare it would broach 40. I think it did it once since I've owned it but usual it's in the low 30s to mid.

For 2003 that was as good as they got. Geo Metro could get 40 Mpg and the modern Mitsubishi Mirage with a manual has reports of 50 MPG. Being a owner of a 2022 Prius at that speed and mountain climb mid 40 mpg would be the best it could do.

I have a 2005 Toyota Echo Sedan Automatic with 199,000 km. September 2012 I drove from my home in Calgary to Montreal and back. Best I could do on a tank of fuel was 630km with the low fuel flashing dash light coming on at approximately 560km. Took 42 litres to fill so around 3 litres remained in the Echo's 45 litre tank. Average speed between 110-120km/hr. City mpg much worse than I expected, never getting more than 500km on a full tank, and in winter no more than 400km City. Car is very well maintained and I drive very conservatively at all times. Previous car was a 1985 2dr hatch Pontiac Acadian 5sp that easily topped 600km in City driving and that only had a 40 litre tank. Had that for 26 years since new(256,000km when I sold it after buying the Echo in 2010 from the second owner at 89,000km. Expected my Echo, despite the Automatic transmission, to attain At Least 700km on a tank doing mixed City/Highway based on claims from numerous Echo owners, even with the same Automatic Transmission. Very reliable car but disappointed in the gas mileage.

@@tonymcdougall8486 agree I'm the same and I on auto , Have no idea how they can get like 750KM on a tank . best I got in the city was 520KM in the summer no AC. winter with lots of snow best was 400ish with heat on most of the time. I think most of the advertised MPG some ppl claim was just a BS.

@@Customer22374 So I guess it is the automatic transmission models that use too much gas. I don't think I have ever gotten less than 32mpg even during winter when I always run heat. On the highway I will get more than 700km on a thank

@@CaptainAnytime Why laugh? Car manufacturers test hwy/city cycle fuel economy specs at city or hwy speeds or combo of both, maximum fuel efficiency is tested at 100 kilometres an hour on a flat level road surface with one occupant with no loads placed in the car. It's not rocket science, 🙄

You'll eventually damaged your EVAP vent valve by topping off the tank after it stops pumping. When it stops pumping don't add anymore fuel. It's not worth the cost it'll be to replace that vent valve.
