I brought a 2007 manual Yaris brand new. It finally died on me in 2020. I replaced two starters, two water pumps, two clutches, a rear wheel baring, and one transmission before the engine started severely burning oil, then one of the cylinders stopped firing. The car lasted me 645k mostly highway miles. This was the most reliable car I ever owned.

Damn you got me beat by a lot. My Yaris only has 246,000 miles. The only difference is I have done absolutely nothing to it except one tuneup at 190,000 miles I know I know I was 90,000 miles overdue.😂😂 but I do change the oil every 5000 miles. I actually take that back. I’ve had one thing break on it. My CD player stopped working.😂😂

wow that is allot of mileage, you won't see that out of a Hyundai lol, I have a 2012 ford focus and it only has 96,000 kilometers and has gone through a steering rack, camshaft position sensor, heater core, engine mounts and brake rotor disks and is already burning engine oil. I would like to have a simple reliable Yaris or Corolla.

They named the sedan version here in the Philippines as 'Vios' and you can literally see them everywhere here. They're popularly used as a taxi and for ride-hailing services like Uber since the car just doesn't break down at all. It's literally a mini-tank. They offer 2 engines here, the 1.5 liter and a smaller 1.3 liter.

My brother bought a new 2007 Yaris sedan. He drove it until 2021. It had 500,398 miles on it when he traded it in on a new Corolla Hatchback. It had the original engine and automatic transmission. He had to replace the fuel pump once and the alternator once. He drained and filled the transmission fluid every 100k. Brakes were done a few times, and the fan belts were as well. It was burning about 1 quart of oil every 3k miles. It was an excellent vehicle. The dealer gave him $200 trade in, polished it up, and had it in their showroom as a half million mile Toyota in Lemon Grove, California....

The Yaris has a special place in my heart. My dad bought it new, and he taught my sisters and I in that car in a target parking lot. We all learned in that car after killing that clutch haha. we gave the car away and the only real issue was rust. I had to replace the rear axle beam on it. It wasn't too hateful

i got a 2009 yaris and had it over 10 years. i install an hitch and haul my 4x8 harbofreight folding trailer with sofas, kitchen appliance, washers/dryers, ridding lawn mowers, and other large items. and i even haul it with my 1,000lbs 17ft fiberglass fishing boat @ 45mph with no problem. i was pushing it to the limit. now it has over 200 thousand miles and still rides smooth like the day i got it. never had a problem with it, besides the battery and serpentine belt everything on the engine are original. im glad i made a good investment. its cheap on gas and i will definitely buy again.

I bought a Yaris in 2008 and put a hundred thousand miles on it in 3 years and the only maintenance I did was oil changes, a battery, and a set of tires. I bought it for $9,000 and 3 years later I sold it for $9,000. That was the only car I have ever owned. Everybody called it the CarD2. Very stable vehicle at traveling the interstate at 80 MPH and still got 40 Mi to the gal.

I owned a 2007 Yaris bought it used in 2012. As soon as I test drove the car, I knew it was great car, its drive felt reliable, solid and sturdy. Got it with 75k miles, kept it for 5 years with zero problems, I traded in for a brand new Sentra, just cause I wanted a new car and new technology. But damn my Yaris had a fantastic drive than my Nissan, my Nissan felt too loosely. I had regretted getting rid of my Yaris for quite a while.

Same here in Malaysia. Vios engine is one of the best reliable engines & it even shares it with Daihatsu & Perodua. If you ever heard of Perodua Myvi, that car can even be used as a 4x4 to cross a flooded area!!! It is surely a low cost maintenance car, just make sure there is no leak on the valve cover gasket and that's it.

During the pandemic I had to suddenly buy a car and with the lockdowns I had limited income and savings so wanted the cheapest thing I could drive long distance across multiple countries without worrying. I chose a Yaris and have been amazed at just how good it is. It was only intended as a stop gap purchase but as it does everything asked of it and never breaks down I still have it in 2024. Like all my cars I rust proofed in as soon as I got it and I top it up every summer. Here in Europe we get the 97 BHP 1.33 1NR-FE engine with variable valve timing. Its a great engine, if you thrash it then its powerful but I am usually slow and lazy in whcih case it has plenty of tourque which reduces the number of gear changes - handy on a 14 hour drive. These engines are known to use oil although mine does not seem to use as much as most. It pays to keep an eye on the oil level. I prefer an auto but bought the manual because I thought it would be more reliable .. plus I can push start it if the battery or starter fails ( assuming the computer will let me ) Its a 6 speed box and so on the Motorway / Autobahn its only doing 2500 rpm at 70 mph / 120 kmh so for a tiny car its amazingly quiet. I can and do drive all day at 70 mph. In the 4 years the only thing to break was a wheel stud, probably because somebody ran it too tight with a windy gun. With the European car the trick of buying the cruise control does not work as the wiring is not preinstalled. Next week I am driving the Yaris up a mountain in Barvaria for a skiing holiday. On winter tyres its as good as a 4x4. I love the car so much I also bought a 1.3 IQ which is mechanically the same but totally different character and a hoot to drive.

From a "boring" but very reliable name previously and now evolve into something that with the same cred as the Lancia Integrale, Mitsubishi EVO, Audi Quattro, etc.

I own a 07 Manual Sedan Yaris since 2010 with 120,000km, always garaged and I live in a very stable climate. The only thing I have replaced is 1 injector. Brake Pads and clutch are all original. I just do the oil every 10,000km and it never skips a beat. Did its first brake fluid / radiator change last year myself and they both tested fine before the change. Bought a central locking key from eBay and it sync'd right up, added a Carplay/Android Auto headunit, drop in speakers, and an underseat subwoofer. All the rubber parts are still flexible. Makes it hard to be a car nut when your daily just goes forever.

Btw the Recall List on the 08 is stupid! It shows a lot but it’s really only 3 on REPEAT! IDK why but one is Toyota forgot to put the sticker on side door jam telling us it’s load limits and tow limit! And another for Takata airbag which most cars had recalled for! And another for a possible rear brake lamp connector corrode causing brake lights to not work.

I purchased mine in 2009, brand new. Used it way less than most of the people commenting here: only 150,000 km (93,168 miles) over 7 years. Replaced it still "young" because I lived in a "very salty zone" (Montreal - Canada). Took a 2016 Corolla instead, but I have to confess: many times I missed the Yaris. I almost bursted in tears years later when I recognized it at the Ikea's parking lot! That car is fantastic for commuting; it's a no mistake if you want it for that application.

I sort of brushed off the Yaris back in the day as being an even cheaper Toyota (and it technically is) but I almost brushed it off as not going to be very reliable. Funny that now years later (10-15 years later) these cars have proven to be little gems and quite reliable if you took care of them (as is the case with most cars but Toyotas especially). Sort of wish I had bought one back in 2008 instead of a 2008 Ford Focus in hindsight. Heck, had I done that, I might still be driving it today....

Truly wonderful cars. Unfortunately, a driver who didn't pay attention pulled out and destroyed the grandma Echo. I couldn't find another in good shape so I replaced it with a Scion xA.
