Hi CartuneNZ, Thanks for the detail video. I encounter a small problem and I hope you may help me.. I realized my J160 manual gear lever doesnt bounce back to center like normal manual tranny do. I have check the lower bush and it's in good condition. Then I have jack up, check the spring on the side of the gear shift housing and it looks ok too (is the spring wear and tear?) I got no Idea how to fix the "doesnt bounce back to center" thingy... Do you know what exactly happen? I really appreaciate if you could tell me if i missed out any springs or mechanism in the gear shift lever part.. Hope I may hear from you soon. Sorry for the broken English, love from Malaysia.

I put in a new g52 lastweek and put my shifter assembly into it, it occasionally goes sloppy and sometimes can't find 5th. Should I put the assembly that came with gearbox in and maybe solve it?

I would be checking the seat , lower bush and pins. Then using the best components or replacing stuffed ones. Cheers Kelvin

hi kelvin, so are the W , G and R series main gear shifters all interchangeable between the series ? cheers Ants
@CartuneNZ5 жыл бұрын
Hello Ants. Unfortunately no. There are different housings which bolt onto the box which the gear shifters fit into and different shifter. They fit into the housings differently. Cheers

Hi. I have a Hilux LN106. On the gear shift lever housing, the two pins are completely worn away making the lever swing around everywhere and hard to get into gear. I can get a new housing from Toyota, but it's over NZ$120.00 There is another place in Aus which sells aftermarket pins which would need to be tapped into the holes and fitted. These cost about NZ$50.00 but the freight kills it. Any suggestions on where I can get an aftermarket housing in NZ? Or should I just look for a good second-hand housing? I also thought about removing it and trying to make my own pins, but they would have to be tight to stay in there. Any ideas?

Personally I would be buying a new one. I have a box of used ones and they all have floppy pins. These pins are hardened so making new ones isnt so easy and to me $120 for to replace a housing thats lasted 30 odd years seems like good value. I'd also buy new lower seat and shift bush on the end of the lever. Cheers

What did you end up doing? I have a similar issue
@CartuneNZ3 жыл бұрын
I fit new housings most of the time. They are cheap and are like a new one, because they are new ones.

CartuneNZ do you know the part # for a 1993 Toyota T100 4wd? By the way, thank you for your time and content.

There are several different positions of gearstick on the toyota gearboxes and they can mostly be interchanged. Cheers Kelvin

Hey mate Ive got a 3rz 4wd Hilux and I was changing the shifter seat and cup bush and for some reason I can't seem to get the new cup bush into the selector so when I go to twist the spring loaded retainer back in it won't fully push down and lock and I'm not being a pussy about pushing it down and twisting but gee whiz it just won't go in plus my pins in the housing are wobbly and one looks a little bent. Could you please give me some tips and advice
@CartuneNZ4 жыл бұрын
Hello. Some of the new bushes come with an extra rubber seal / o-ring on the bottom which wasnt present on the early ones. Its one of those changes Toyota did and they sell a new part which doesnt fit without that change. The pins in the housings often get bent and are wobbly and having new ones machined and pressed in is best. or making a sleeve into the housing to press the pins back into so they are held tight. Cheers Kelvin

Hey know worries thanks for that it's a pain because I have replaced the shift lever seat but when I put the new lever bush that hose on the very end of the stick where the ball is now it won't slip back into the gearbox like the original dose is that ment to happen or should the new bush pop into the selector forks like the original?
@CartuneNZ4 жыл бұрын
The plastic bush should push onto the ball and be held in place there. Once thats attached it sits into the gearbox hole
