I drove a 2018 SR5 ECab auto Diesel today.... and to be honest I’m going to keep my 2006 SR5 V6 petrol manual. Given the 2018 looks very, very sexy, it doesn’t have the power of a petrol V6 nor the get and go!!! It seriously lacks in the “tech” department and value for money full stop! I would rather cop the 150k’s per tank less fuel economy than fork out $30k for something that still has drum brakes on the rear and no duel climate control as a starting point. Extremely rough ride, salesman had the stereo up to loud and the A/C on high!!!! After I stopped and turned those 2 off it was like i was driving my Western Star truck... 🤨🤷🏻‍♂️

Think the diesel would be more suitable for manual, find diesel manual easy to drive over petrol manuals. I have petrol manual though wish i had a petrol auto, to make it around town less effort.

Toyota logic: Manual Hilux, detuned to make less power but can tow 3500kg Automatic, more power and torque, can only tow 3200kg.

It is direct drive with lower gear ratios that make it able to tow that weight. Not Toyota logic but engineering facts;⁠)
