Still have my 91 , 383,000+ miles on it . Would do jack knife tune up on it while on lunch break in the woods. Biggest breakdown in delivering spark to plugs is in the condition of the plug wire set. All to often service shops would just replace everything, habitually running up the bill. "You need a new Johnson rod in there" . Seinfeldism

Peter, After 29 years the expense of a new rotor, cap, wires and even a coil can be justified. Just make sure to use OEM parts as we expect an update video in the summer of 2049 and discount parts won't last that long. Long live #manual pickups!

I note that in this 1991 Toyota the engine drives the rear wheels unlike in the saloons which seem to be all front wheel driven. Also the distributer does not contain the ignition coil . In my 1987 carina which has only done 85000 miles I have just fitted the third ( 3rd coil ) new coil The coil which is within the distributer !!!

Before that they had points to adjust and a vaccuum advance for the ignition on carburettor engines.Usually on a lot of makes there were clips holding the cap on which made servicing much quicker.It would be nice to have a simple car to fiddle about with again.

The distributor cap screws on my 20r engine have Phillips and 10mm hex heads. Much easier to use a wrench. Also as far as I know, only the oem caps have screws that don’t separate from the cap.

I've got a '93 and the triggering owner rotor with the 4 paddles on the shaft is about 20 degrees off counterclockwise from the rotor. Shouldn't it be directly in align with the rotor? There is also a single paddle above the triggering rotor (and below the top rotor} that's in exact alignment with the top rotor. I'm guessing it's only there to help with alignment...??

Hi, I just saw this video. I will be picking up a 77 Toyota pickup. It is quite cool. Has side steps and haven't seen nothing like it online. It's supposed to be one of 500 made. Some kind of California edition. Anyways. I was wondering a few questions. Like. Is the fuel pump inside the tank? Lol might seem like a dumb question but the old guy had it started from a gallon tank with a hose. Soni assume the pump is on the outside. Another question is what is the spark plug gap? It's a 4 speed standard gas engine. Any info on this old vehicle would be super helpful.

And you set the mixture and idle speed with screws?
@cristiancruz50794 жыл бұрын
Only the idle i think. I have a toyota corolla 1993 that is only 2 years ahead of this model and mixture is made by the small ECU. As i see on this truck it uses an intake with injectors. So for sure mixture is made by the computer and idle by screw attached on bottom of gas pedal cable.

Very reliable, but completely unsafe in today's world. Even just a moderate accident in this will be a catastrophe since it does not have any of the safety features that modern trucks have. I cannot see using this as a daily driver.
