You really helped me finish this job on a 2016 ES350. Thanks for posting this. Just some notes for anyone doing this - to hammer the CV Axle back into the transmission, first I tried w my 3 pound hammer. It wasn’t going nowhere. You really need a much heavier hammer. I used an 8 LB and it went in w 5 hits. Also to separate the CV axle from the transmission what made it easier was the OEM CV axle removal tool. The angle didn’t allow me to insert both sides of the fork so just hammer only one side of the fork into the gap first then both sides of the fork. I tried the method in the video first but my pry bar only flexed when I hit it. Also while I released the brake line in the places on this video, it still gets pulled when you remove the axle shaft from the knuckle which falls forward. Removing the caliper makes it less stressful. You can just hang it up on the strut. Btw on my car there was no transmission fluid that leaked out other than a few drops of oil that was on the splines.

I want to give you a big shout out and thank you for your video. I unfortunately had to do this job on my RX350 driver side 2 years ago and this past weekend my wife and I had the same one blow out on us. The knuckle exploded. Because of you I was able to have this entirel job done in about an hour because I thought you had to take the entire hub off. I had this done with no stress in a super market parking lot. Thanks for the video. Just did the drivers side CV on my 2004 Avalon. I had a hard time prying out the old CV axle. An 18" pry bar did nothing. Tried hammering too. Ultimately, it came out really easy once i pried on 2 points. There was enough room to get a small pry bar on the top, and a bigger one on the bottom. I then alternated pressure top and bottom and after an hour of no luck prying in one location, it popped really easily with 2 points of pressure.

Good job, quick, I noticed that you used the OEM axle nut, which I do as well, I also change the axle retainer ring. The aftermarket new shafts are squared off, whereas the OEM is a round ring. Ive done a lot of Toyota 4x4s over the years, I have 7 in my immediate family that I maintain and those aftermarket flat rings don't come out easily. Thank you for the video.
@hardlymovingpro4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your post. Nothing wrong with re-using the OEM axle nut. Have had problems with some of the new retainer rings that come with the new axle. Difficult to push through the transmission's splines. Easiest solution was to transfer the OEM old ring onto the new axle.

I appreciate your videos brotha, I am by no means a mechanic but I will do simple repairs that would probably run me about $1000 parts and labor. I would say this was on a scale from 1-10 ten being most difficult this was a (4) it jumped up to a (7) when it came time to slap the snap ring back in on the passenger side then back to a level (4). Driver side axle was so easy after doing the passenger first, once again thank you for your videos..🫡🫵🏽😎✌🏽

I did a job like this and had problems trying to remove and reinstall the axle from the trans. Took it to a mechanic and he had to rotate the wheels so the snap ring would line up. Does that snap ring need to be in a certain position when reinstalling?
@hardlymovingpro3 жыл бұрын
Nope. He aligned the splines of the cv axle with the splines inside the transmission. At that point you push the axle into the transmission to compress the compression spring (or what you call the snap ring)

After they replaced my axle ( my part ) about a month later I noticed a hard knock when shifting onto reverse after the car sits for an hour or so.. But after the first one it won't do it, until you let it sit for a while.. Went under the car today and it seems like the sound is coming from the axle.. is that knock possible from an axle ?
@hardlymovingpro10 ай бұрын
More than likely yes. I'd guess they didn't pack enough grease in the CV joint. If so, the grease doesn't work its way to the bearings until the wheels start moving. Park the car for awhile, the grease migrates down away from the bearings starving the bearings of lubrication until the wheels start moving again.

According to the official Toyota Corolla workshop manual, the transmission fluid must be drained before removing the axle shaft. On KZbin, some do this, others do not. It is probably just a precaution in case there is already a leak in place, which would become abundant once the axle shaft is removed, which is probably what happened in the video.
@hardlymovingproАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing! If the seal is leaking before removal, I'll replace the seal as part of the axle replacement. Also, not a bad idea to do a drain-and-fill of new transmission fluid.

If the inner part of the axle pops in and out slightly, is it because i didn't sit it right.
@hardlymovingpro2 жыл бұрын
Is it the boot stretching or the metal bearing housing cup recessed into the transmission? If the cup, you'll need to smack it in to collapse the retention ring pass the transmission splines. Some light hammer taps at the other end of the axle should do.
