Do yourself a favour and replace the crush washer on the drain plug people. Cheap and a nice peace of mind. Thanks for the video!

I open the oil cap when I drain my oil to make it come out faster. I like to put some oil in my filter before I put a new one on.

Great how to. Manual/Engine light for my 2006 Matrix XR AWD says change oil every 5000 miles. Been running Mobile1 Synthetic-and sometime change it closer to 6000 miles. I believe the synthetic offers greater protection and is more tolerant of increased service interval. Also really helps with smooth startups during cold Northeast winters.

As a seasoned mechanic I don't fault your feel for the drain plug torque, but given that this video might be viewed by first timers, a torque wrench is advised for most fasteners on an automobile. The oil drain plug takes 27ft/lb of torque (37 Nm). Undertight = leak. Overtightening may strip it. Automotive engineers don't calculate torque specifications just for the fun of it. The torque wrench offers confidence to the uninitiated & will be useful for other endeavors (brakes, spark plugs).

+misterfunnybones I agree. Torque wrenches are a must. Finger tight/hand tight for one person is different for another.

Most people including mechanics never use a torque wrench for things like this. However, I have changed my oil many times, and I noticed this time the drain plug was only finger tight when I removed it for the first time. Realized then torque on these things is important. From the heating and cooling cycles from the oil, it can loosen pretty easily.

Torque wrench is a waste of money. I bought a wrench with a 1 foot long handle and I press on it with 27 lbs of force.

Why not take the time to.let ALL of the old oil drain out, especially in a how to video. I only do basic maintenance on my vehicles and I'm changing my wife's oil tommorow ( I've done it before). Besides telling me it's a 14mm nut this is complete garbage.
