That car is in fantastic shape here. I love it. Thanks for the easy walk through. My 88 is several years older than me, I have next to no experience dealing with anything distributor related besides setting timing. Only other vehicle I had with is was my 98 Ram, and I never had to do anything with that.

Thanks for watching! I bet the AW11 looks tiny next to your Ram!! 😄😄 distributor cap is very quick and simple to change, if you can set timing you can definitely change the cap!

@@Auto_Funk Got it done a few hours ago actually, truthfully the hardest part was getting the plug wire off the ignition coil. Cap and rotor change took less than 10 minutes since I knew exactly what to look for. Cheers🍻 from across the pond

Great video I'm still learning under the bonnet! I've got the same car 1986 crossover in red, love your radio cassette, very rare that so Neil tells me. I've just put the MK1b original in mine. Could do a video on the cleaning of the throttle body and fuel rail, removal and put back or fuel filter? All good, like your videos a lot and the way you explain.

Thanks! They are super cool eh! :) The 1st gen tape deck is quite dated but with the under seat sub it still sounds good... I ought to do more MR2 content really. The 86 crossover cars are my favourite model although I'd love a supercharged one! Thanks for watching and commenting :)

Hey man do you have any pictures of where the wiring harness connects to the distributor? Fixing a frankenstein of a 4AGE currently

Hi Brenan! Thanks for watching :) sounds a nightmare although they aren’t too bad - Just access is a pain depending on the job. I don’t have a pic but if you find a channel on here called “Resto Nation” there is some very detailed Mk1 mr2 engine bay stuff on there so you might be able to find the info there! I’ve sold this car now sadly :(

Hi. Could you please let us know where you sourced your parts and part make/model etc? I need to change my dizzy cap and rotor but is very $$$ from local dealer. Cheers

Hi David, here in the UK they are readily available from eBay, local motor factors, MR2 specialists and main dealers. I bought mine from eBay! Try www.MR2-BEN.co.uk :) Hope this helps and thank you for watching!

Would this be the same process for a mk3 at all do you know? Cheers
@Auto_Funk3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It’s totally different, the Mk3 has coil packs rather than a conventional (should I say old fashioned) coil and distributor. If yours has an ignition fault it may be a coil pack.
@stevenharper36873 жыл бұрын
@@Auto_Funk thanks for the reply. Not an ignition fault as such. There is a slight hesitation/flat slot when you initially press the accelerator and read it might be good to change these... (just bought the car and im a total car novice!) 🙈

Aha! Could be a number of things... Possibly an oxygen sensor or MAF sensor, those are the first two things I’d check. It’s worth getting the diagnostic codes read if you know anyone with a code reader as that might point you towards the problem :) you’ll fix it, I bet it’s something simple!

12:00 the cars LHD and 12:20 its RHD again. For 20 seconds you had me wondering how a UK'r with a Japanese car ended up on the wrong side.

@@Auto_Funk On a UK car with the dual KM/hr and M/hr speedo, Is the odometer and trip meter in km or Miles?
@Auto_Funk4 жыл бұрын
@@stephenbello1081 It's in miles on a UK car :) Where are you located?
@stephenbello10814 жыл бұрын
@@Auto_Funk In Australia. My Speedo was intermittent then made some loud grinding noises and died. I've memorised the revs in 5th for the usual speed limits but it's time to source a replacement. Wish there was a period correct electronic speedo from a Corolla so I could update to not running cable drive as well.
@Auto_Funk4 жыл бұрын
@@stephenbello1081 cable drive is a pain eh! A cool conversion would be an AE86 digital dash.... Very $$$ and time consuming although it would look amazing :) Luckily in the UK there are loads of MR2 spares so I'd just throw in a new instrument cluster if mine failed...
