Of course the correct ball joint puller, as you have demonstrated, is a slightly scaled up copy of the 18G1063 I bought when working on my 1964 Mini Cooper 1000 back in 1971. You did use it correctly by alternately tightening and tapping. It can't possibly fail.😊

I’ve been subscribed to this channel for ages now, and I’m just here for the ride. No pressure mate, you finish it when it gets finished. I love it when I see your channel pop up in my subscriptions because we get treated with a little nugget of progress. In the mean time, enjoy your family, get used to your new home and we’ll just wait for the next update.

Glad that last tool finally worked on the ball joint! We’ve all been in a situation like that - I would have been applying some loud swearing. You, though, keep things calm, at least on camera 😀 - good job!

For the ball joints on my Mk2 MR2, I remember using a pittman arm puller or that same style of ball joint separator that you used. Now that I have more room for tools, I invested in an air hammer and have been using a pneumatic pickle fork for those stuck ball joints. Look forward to more videos whenever you return to posting them. I've loved watching this project.

You should get the other style of ball joint/tie rod end popper they have a lot less play to bend out of alignment. alternatively if you leave the castle nut on like you did you could start it with a hammer or even a floor jack.

I would show you what it looks like in a video but the Datsun balljoint footage got nuked by windows update. *Wait, no it should be in the video for the Acura hub removal, and the Datsun tie rod end boot video. Anyway, I look forward to more videos and I hope the little one is doing well!

I've never failed to get a ball joint out with a hammer. Skip the clawhammer and start with that little sledge. Don't tap, beat it. If that doesn't work, get a 6lbs (2.5kg) on a long handle and HIT it like you don't love it any more.

Just make sure to hit the castle nut not the face of the threaded spindle, I like to reverse it to maximize the surface area so you can reuse the nut (also penetrating fluid to start with would help).

I've used one of those ball joint pullers and had the same clearance problems. I think they're OK if you want to retain the ball joint. I ended up using one of those fork ones. It will definitely ruin the ball joint but it definitely worked better

Make sure you grease the threads on the puller ;)

That would probably have been a good idea 😂

Pro tip: it would have saved you so much time, remove that castle nut. Flip it upside down and screw it until it’s even with the screw and hammer it. It should pop out cause the castle nut gives it more surface area and it shouldn’t get damaged

Interesting, I’ll definitely give that a go next time 😊

I hope everything's ok. Do I need to have my cousin come check on you guys?

Two opposing hammers (one on either side of the ball joint) works every time. Otherwise the suspension is absorbing most of the force.

I did try two hammers once I had room to hit both sides but still no luck

I'm new to your channel and could I ask you to please finish the honda cb500 scrambler build? Just watched part 1-7 and then it just stopps

I too am curious how that went! ...But I am also fully aware how projects have to take a back seat sometimes and filming/editing even more so.

Sorry for the late reply, somehow I missed your comment. I am planning to start on the CB500 scrambler project again very soon. We moved house and didn’t have space to work on the bike for a while, but we’ve just started renting a new workshop so work can begin again 😊
