The 1zz isn't a revvy engine, it was designed to be torquey. Combined with Toyota GB using longer 3rd & 4th ratios than the rest of the world for economy.

I have a 2004 Celica with the same engine (1ZZ) and I'm a big proponent of "it's much more fun to drive a slow car quickly than a quick car slowly". People overlook this type of car because they're not that fast - but it's the handling and the visceral experience you get that makes them a much better drive than say, something that can do 70mph in 2nd gear... where's the fun in that if you want to keep your license? Great video!

That’s the next job on my roadster, replacing the suspension, glad to see it sharpens the handling on an already great fun car to drive. I maybe biased but MR2 definitely better than the MX5🤣 Keep the MR2 videos coming!

Yeah, an arguement is definetly brewing in our house, MX5 v MR2 😉 In reality, both great cars. The new suspension has really shown up just how tired the old stuff was, good upgrade.

Think you've nailed it on the head, "supple" would describe it perfectly. Tbh with the new stuff fitted it does show up just how tired the old bits were. Another job off the list. Great cars these.

With the subtle mods you have done on the MR2, what effect has it had on your car insurance premium?

The new policy covers all our cars and to drive others to so it’s hard to tell tbh. Just add and subtract as required, oh and pay the bill when it comes 😔

For a short blast the MR2. Longer run MX5. I’d pick the nd over the Toyota, but not sure I’d pick an nb of similar age instead. NB v MR2 video coming up in the spring - should be interesting 😎
