I live in Minnesota where it gets down to 20-30 below zero and if there is any kind of bad weather during rush hour, you're sitting on a freeway for 2-3 hours trying to get home. Also trying to stay warm running heat or a defroster. no battery is made to last long in our conditions of winter weather. Batteries do not like cold or are efficent.Plus the resources to pull all these raw materials out of the ground to make them is ridicules and not cost effective. Add that the electrical grid cannot support a society all on EV cars at this point. You should know that living in CA. who have rolling black outs and a government who during heat waves tells people to cut back on power usage and controls the power grid. Sorry i will take a ICE car any day of the week. In my view you live in one of the worst states in America. High taxes and a dumb ass for a Govenor. Just wait until the EV battery disposal problem happens. Just wait until current EV owners realize how little their vehicle is worth when they try to sell it or trade it in. Just wait until it becomes even more glaringly apparent that the electricity grid will never be able to come anywhere near the required capacity for EV’s to replace internal combustion powered vehicles. Just wait.

Nice for nc to have this investment. How are batteries going to be made when there arent enough raw materals to make the batteries needed to replace the existing automotive market?. Never mind that we dont have the power plants for the electricity demand. But were planning on closing about 16 percent of power plants..... This is a twilight zone move for the usa and or the planet.

EVs are already over 25% of the new cars sold in CA and that number is growing fast. Instead of denigrating EVs from ignorance, you should drive a Tesla and see what you're missing. They make the best cars in the world. By 2035, there will likely be no more gas cars made anywhere in the world. After that date, no new gas cars can be sold in CA and many other states, all of China, and most of Europe.

@@sunpwrdEVs are more dangerous and damaging to the environment than any ICE vehicle, you are driving a lithium firebombs waiting to explode and none of the toxic batteries are recyclable. They also are completely useless in cold weather climates and conditions and are impractical for commercial construction industry they also REQUIRE FOSSIL FUELS to manufacture distribute and use. Where do you think electricity comes from, plastic, steel aluminum rubber electric motors and all the components involved in building them, FOSSIL FUELS, Oil, Natural Gas and Coal! They are also 3x more expensive to operate than any ICE vehicles on the market. In Toyota's battery roadmap, they will be making Lithium NMC batteries until 2027, when they will switch over to LiFeP chemistry. The problem is Chinese EV switched over to LiFeP 2 years ago and the public will soon understand that Li NMC is an obsolte technology and no one will buy them. In summary, NMC batteries are the type used in your cell phone/laptop. They can be recharged 300~500 times. That means the very expensive battery for your EV will be dead after 100,000 miles. LiFeP batteries can be recharged ~5000 times, they will last a million miles. This is a big gamble for Toyota, especially if they understand no one will buy those batteries will 2027.

The workers will be wise to go union from the start. They will make more $ and will be able to have more say in everything that affects them. The lies that employers use so they can yank the workers around with...can not be used. Unions are what gave us the 40 hr week for example. Unions are what helped the middle class. Unions pay enough so one parent working is all that is needed to make ends meet. Is this not enough reason to start out union ?
@beboboymann3823
@beboboymann3823 Ай бұрын
You must be a democrat. Unions take union dues from hard working families and give it to democrat politicians. If workers don’t pay union dues they get to keep their earnings for themselves. Why do you thinkToyota located to North Carolina? Unions are not needed. Property taxes and cost of living is very competitive in North Carolina.
@stephen4763
@stephen4763 Ай бұрын
🥱. That would be the death knell for that plant. Unions were a good idea back in the day to right several wrongs. Today? Way overboard on their agendas. One gets looked down upon for exceeding the “average” work pace. Unions do not appreciate individual initiative. It makes others “look bad”. That’s the main thing that pops into my head. One union paper mill I was at had tons of rules for breaks. 15 minutes to”get ready” for a 15 to 20 minute break and then 15 minutes to return to one’s work area and “get ready” for work. Same for the lunch breaks AND leaving work. I wondered how ANYTHING got done.

Boing closed a plant and moved it to Charleston, SC because of the unions on the west coast. Now the unions are trying to get their greedy hands on the employees at the Charleston plant. 7,000 workers voted no. 150 out of 175 employees on the flight line voted to go union so only that particular segment of the entire work force went union. Why did Boing pull out of the west coast facility and move all the way to South Carolina? Because South Carolina like North Carolina is a right to work state and if Boing feels threatened by the unions in South Carolina all Boing needs to do is make a phone call to the governor of North Carolina and Boing will be offered free land, tax breaks for a few years and maybe even low interest loans for construction of facilities. And it all will happen with the speed of light. Southern states do not like unions. I would venture to say that the flight line workers that voted for unionization were transplants from other states. By the way, after the 7,000 workers voted no union the union North Charleston office closed its doors and left. Boing came in offering salaries and benefits better than what the southern workers were used to seeing in cotton mills and other industrial jobs in the south. They know where their bread is buttered.

It's puzzling that both the pro and anti BEV people are against this Toyota battery plant. Pro BEV people think Toyota's hybrids like Prius with 50+ mpg are no good because they are not 100% emission free. Anti BEV people have conflated HEVs with BEVs and think Toyota has gone woke with its hybrids, but in fact hybrids are like ICE vehicles with 50+ mpg which are considered great at one time, and which the pro BEV people hate nowadays. Meanwhile, Toyota is investing in this NC battery plant creating jobs because hybrids like Prius are selling well, and Tesla sales are down and is laying off people, and that's a good thing for the anti BEV people because Tesla, an American company, is suffering. Confusing.

No liberals electing liberal politicians who will work feverishly to tax them out of existence as soon as they open up shop. Sadly though, they only got a battery plant. That's why Toyota should leave. Mr. Akio Toyoda laid waste to the us and its stupid "green" policies by predicting ev's future years ahead and allowing it to destroy our country. I used to be pro us, now after boeings blatant profit before lives really came to life. I admit I feel safer on the frogs jets. The Toyota I had my eyes and hopes on was the new forerunner, but with a stupid twin turbo, I was hoping for a return to a V8,even though with the aforementioned mentioned policy's knew that wasn't happening, I gave that up. But the vehicle I want is the Hilux Champ, but as mentioned, it's only in Thailand as of now. The us market is over. We've been riding our own hi so long it's bound to start having withdrawals. The rest of the "developing " world is the market. So, for now, I'll stick with my ol "03" chevy..
