My KDJ95 with 1KD-FTV engine on mixed driving, but mostly long haul driving gets between 0.85 to 1.0 liter pr 10km. That is without roof rack, R151f transmission and about 31" all terrain tires. Thats around 11.76 to 10 km/liter for you ZA folks. Was a couple of weeks in Namibia 2 years back renting a 2KD-FTV hilux with rooftop tent and manual transmission and it really wasn't bad on fuel consumption. Seems that common rail really does wonders.

Thanks for sharing! I wish we got the Prado's with the 1KD-FTV. Here, even the 120's had the old KZ-TE and only the 150 got the D-4D.

I get about the same out of my 1kD too, it’s a good engine for sure 👍

@@GreaseAndGravel The 1KZ and 1Kd share the same engine block, so there are possibilities for an easy upgrade. Same goes for the 2KD, not exact same block, but same engine mounts and transmission/bell-housing bolt holes, so it will bolt right up to your current transmission. Not to hard to convert to mechanical injection either or just buy a Baldur DID1 stand alone ECU. Then you can have plenty of power, reliability and better fuel consumption.

I drive 2 vehicles , Land Rover Discovery V8 5L petrol over 140,000km = AVE 7.5 km per L VW Amarok V6TDI , stage 1 (190kw/660NM) diesel over 50,000km = AVE 12.5 km per L This is odometer over liters filled and the TDI exceeds all published literature of what it should. I have seen 11km/L towing small trailer at 130km per hour.

What about maintance/ servicing cost, petrol has to be less? My v6 3.2 grand vitara averages around 11 to 12lts per 100klm
@GreaseAndGravel2 ай бұрын
Good question. I think if you do your own maintenance, services should cost more or less the same. Spark plugs vs glow plugs... both have timing belts... turbo maybe a difference, but my brother's is still going strong after 436000km.

@@GreaseAndGravel you can leave the oil and filter change longer a petrol i believe
@GreaseAndGravel2 ай бұрын
@@MrRobinski That could very well be. I service my petrol every 10 000km even thought the manual states 15 000km. If it was an old diesel I'd probably change the oil every 5 000km

MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WITH OEN TOYOTA EVERY 200K KM'S. MY 97 4RUNNER WITH SAME ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION GETS 4.6 KMPL IN THE USA ( 10% ETHANOL).

And please comment which measure you prefer: km/l or L/100km? My brain doesn't do L/100km very well 🤣
@sgtunix2 ай бұрын
My LC 120 Prado (V6 petrol) gets about 6.6km/L. I prefer L/100 km though :)
@GreaseAndGravel2 ай бұрын
@@sgtunix exactly the same is my 95 v6. thanks for sharing
@mit13462 ай бұрын
Both methods are equally easy to understand. However I would probably choose L/100km simply because it gives a value to kms. Divide that by 10 and you get the per liter amount, which is pretty simple math.
@gettingschooled30942 ай бұрын
I prefer l/100. In Australia the specs on cars are listed in this way.
