an off-road kit on a RAV4 is aimed at buyers who last purchased a Camry, and immediately scraped to the front bumper when they brought it home and tried to drive up their driveway, and now they are convinced that “regular cars” don’t have ground clearance anymore so they need to buy a “off-road” package

Hi, from Japan!! Well, most of the RAV4 owners here in Japan never bring it to off-road, too. Even though they own off-road version, they don’t bring it to off- road. Only bring the off-road version to on-road. Haha!!

People like the off road look, it’s part of their personality. They even have tires that look rugged on the outer side, but it’s just a normal tire with normal thread

I think so, too!! Thank you!!

The fact that automakers try to convince people they need an off-road trim to drive on gravel roads is just hilarious.

I have Rav4 TRD and I do use it for easy trail off-roading in the back country. I have had any issues yet. Back in 2023 I drove it during winter storm in California and had no issues too. I would say, the vehicle has more off road capabilities than any other Rav4 trims. With bigger tires and a bit more lift modification will do even better.

Todd! My dad’s 2006 Highlander was the same way. The passenger seat did not have the adjustments that the driver seat did, and I consistently sat 2 inches higher than he did because of it

One of my favorite things about cars is how “doesn’t feel like a 4 x 4” is a good thing to some people and a terrible thing to other people. It’s why I tell my dad that a Highlander like he had is a much better car than a 4runner, but I would take the 4runner all day, because the "badness" of how it drives makes it a more fun experience. because you feel the suspension and the tires doing their thing, it doesn’t just glide along like there’s no cares in the world. But I’d rather feel what my car is doing all the time than have it take care of it for me

It is more or less just a trim package but it does have a steel skid plate, dynamic torque vectoring AWD and a fun interior design. I know what it offers and doesn't offer and I like it.

I own a 2024 TRD Off Road. The first thing I had to do is replace the Falken 01A Tires which have only about 1/4" of tread, for the real Falken 100H tires, which are Severe Snow Rated. The stock tires are not Severe Snow Rated. Shame on Toyota for putting these crappy 01A tires on this vehicle. The real Falken tires are not noisy, and handle much better in the snow. The TRD Off Road also adds an Engine Oil Cooler and Transmission Fluid Cooler with Heavy Duty 150 Amp Alternator. Towing is double all other RAV4s to 3400 pounds. The ground clearance is only 1" less than a 4Runner! No Start/Stop on my model!

Toyota sometimes plays a dangerous game by becoming more and more premium pricing without a premium driving experience. The "premium" is that their cars are very durable. If they ever have a scandel about that sort of thing - the whole reason to own a Toyota could vanish. To their credit, it hasn't happened yet. For this price, I'd recommend the turbo outback. It's about the same price, is more capable off-road, and has more space inside. You may spend an extra $40 a month on gas but the car will be more pleasant and a bit roomier.

We had the first model year of the outback XT, i really liked that car. Gave it back at lease end because i really did not like the infotainment. But it was a great, reliable car outside of that. Did a lot of "light" offroading with it, and it was outright quick with the turbo engine.

@@sanadaHIRO For what? A turbo outback? A toyota?
@conrado8005 ай бұрын
It’s happening already. New V6 turbo in the Tundra has fatal issues. Toyota is not as reliable as it once was, but brand loyalists will keep buying them.

This seems more of an appearance package. Similar to some of the Lexus F sport trims
@LafemmebearMusic5 ай бұрын
Actually, it depends on what vehicle you get as to whether the f sport package is just appearance or not.

It does have an off road suspension tune and skid plate, whatever… it’s more for the looks and the vibe

Great vehicle in any iteration. May be it don’t sound good but it will last forever. My sister has a 2009 with over 200,000 miles. Recently started eating a little oil, our friendly Toyota dealer said just change oil every 3,000 miles instead of every 5,000 miles.

Or you can buy an EV and never do an oil change again

is the Corolla sport cross the new Rav4? Because the current Rav4 is the size of the 2000s highlander and the highlander is the size of a Sequoia just without the bad fuel economy and towing capacity. Seems like the rav 4 is the new highlander and the corolla is the new Rav4

I have a RAV4 and I never thought of it as anything off-road worthy. Heck, even Subarus are not really off-readers, in spite of their inherently better setup over the RAV4. To me a RAV4 (or any unibody SUV, for that matter) is just a glorified (or better put - dumbed down) station wagon. And in case I felt like exposing the RAV4 to off-road, I would just install a skid plate package on my LE and some better tires ( which your test car seems to not have anyway). In the event I want to do that, I’d still be looking at around $10k below the price of this car. Long story short, your assessment of this car is hard to argue with…

Doesn't have the torque vectoring AWD, engine oil and transmission fluid cooler. Also missing the skid plate, but you could always just add that yourself. Also, the front bumper just looks much better

I wish they would show second seating and luggage space and engine bay, but they just don’t spend the time doing those things.
