The hardest part of building a small displacement, high power engine is making it reliable. The crankshaft, connecting rods, bearings, and bearing caps take a lot of stress as power grows. You can buy engines that that produce well over 200hp per cylinder, but getting 100k miles without an overhaul or destructive rapid disassembly is an issue. I know a guy who builds GM based racing engines that are capable of 5,000+ hp and also driveable on the street. But you can not run these engines for a decade without tearing them down and replacing bearings, springs, or other parts along the way. However, his design is so robust that they can be repaired after a major failure. His personal engine in his drag car had destroyed all 8 connecting rods and he was able to repair the block and put it back into service. 3 years later, it broke 3 main bearing caps and still ran a 7 second 1/4 mile.

Big advancement is combustion simulation and heat management.. they have been able to make stuff strong enough for ages..

Toyota or Honda will be the ones to do it right, and make it strong and reliable, and able to take immense abuse.

Interesting that Toyota didn't call Yamaha to the group, they have done some very special engines for Toyota and others in the past.

I hope that we get a N/A version of the 2.0 that potentially makes less hp but would be spiritual successor to engines like the 2ZZGE,4AGE,and 3SGE. That revved high and could maybe be put in the next gen 86. Or lower trims of the MR2 or Celica.

A modern Mr 2 with 600 hp could be nipping at the heels of Porsche McLaren and a few others hopefully it's not priced like a Porsche or McLaren

I hope they make a manual transmission that can handle this power. Automatic only would be a shame.

It shouldn't be a problem to make a strong transmission. It's existed in many makes and models without issues.

They are testing a new 6-speed manual with the 2.0L Turbo engine (with 300hp) in the new Hilux. And the higher power 400hp version in the Lexus IS. This transmission could be used for the upcoming rumored MR2 and Celica AWD

@GT3.003 ай бұрын
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 Google. No, it actually makes perfect sense. The Hilux is widely used all over the world by companies and especially construction/work related companies to haul stuff and to go to remote areas in Africa/Australia/Middle East. It’s a very good sign because Hilux is one of if not the most reliable cars ever made. It means the engine will most likely be very reliable. As well as the transmission. I’m not too surprised though. This is Toyota after all.
