These are pretty nice now. Also if you want a hybrid but don't want a Prius, get a Corolla hybrid. They're AWD, hybrid and right around $28k which is pretty wild to have a new car that gets 50mpg and is AWD for under $30k and you get that Toyota dependability

My partner has a 2020 Corolla Hybrid - great car, it was only $23,000 when she bought it, it gets 53 mpg, and has pretty comfortable seats and ergonomics. My wife's 2015 Prius with 150k miles gets 50 MPG city/46 MPG highway and still runs great. Oil changed at 5k mile intervals and have never had any issues. I replaced the headlight housings last year due to severe oxidation and now use Plexus on all plastic components on all of our cars and RV. Toyota mechanic says the hybrid batteries are still healthy and the car could last at least another 50/75k miles or more.
@J_Smith711 ай бұрын
Potentially much longer. You might have to replace the hybrid battery at 200-250k (very well could go longer), but motor and transmission could easily run to and over 300k if you take care it. Refurb hybrid batteries now too make the cost maintenance on replacing much lower too now.

Toyota E-CVT has nothing to do with regular CVT. It's a genius design when 2 electric engines sit around 1 shaft on planetary gear. And ratio gives you a chance use BOTH of them at high speeds, 1 of them would generate electricity on low speeds, or 1 of them would work as reverse gear. Scotty, do you remember when Prius had transmission worn out? Neither can I. Because it's so simple.
@jeffreyvai675011 ай бұрын
I wouldn't even call it a CVT because there's no belt, it's more of an electrified transaxle. And it's so good even ford and other companies bought this same transmission for their own hybrids
@RoyJones-nv6qu11 ай бұрын
@@jeffreyvai6750 exactly. I think they can use a lot more tech and we will see it in future. Like some super capacitors, so a battery wouldn't wear out. 80% of the stored energy literally goes right away within 1 minute when you accelerate after stop sign or after going downhill.
@BigEightiesNewWave11 ай бұрын
Planetary gears not a great idea on a Jet engine, but P-W did just that, and they had failures during ground testing. Personally I would avoid any Airbus with the Pratt-Whitney GTF jet engine. Go Boeing, they do not use it on any I have seen. The planetary gears are to reduce fuel consumption. Lowering bypass-fan speeds. As in car engines, complexity has made engines less reliable, and the GTF needs more maintenance.

I have a 2021 Prius that I bought on July 1, 2023. It is a bright blue color and it is not ugly to me at all. I’m quite happy that I don’t have to fill the gas tank it every week. In the summer I was getting over 60 miles per gallon on the expressway and a few times I got over 70 in town at speed under 45 miles an hour.

😎 The generation 3 was the best Prius. In my opinion. The new one looks like a catfish from the front. The roof line lost 4 in, give us our headroom back!. And I thought the new CVT transmission actually had a first gear then it goes into CVT mode? As far as the dash all hybrids should have the The gauges way up in the center like gen 3 and you don't have to look through the steering wheel where the steering wheel gets in the way. I mean it really works,I really liked that. If you pushed power mode in the version 3 it was no slouch. It Was very Zippy. In regular mode. I even got 61 MPG on ours. If they want to improve the looks, the 2015 concept model front end which looked like a Pontiac was really a good looking model. To me, this one reminds me of a Porsche versus a Volkswagen beetle. It just looks squished down.😅

I have a 2015 Ford Fusion Enrrgi plug in hybrid. 165,000 miles on it and still going strong. No issues. It does have a very similar drivetrain to Toyota hybrids, so maybe thats the reason. But the Fusion/Cmax hybrids and PHEV i think are pretty solid option and not "rolling piles of junk".😅 relatively inexpensive used as well. The Fusion is a much nicer ride than a Prius too as it's not so optimized for max MPG, but still gets 45 MPG city ( after EV range is used up)

Music works great, but audio coming from the video is 50/50 if it wants to adjust the volume. If it doesn't, it'll say "audio paused." If it works and you take a call, then go back to the video, it won't work anymore.

I drive a different rental every week for my business travels. The last two times I’ve had an all-electric Chevy Bolt and a Honda CRV Hybrid. I didn’t care for the Bolt too much and I thought it was ugly. I drove the Honda all over Seattle and I really enjoyed it. A good looking mini SUV and after a week of driving with high west coast gas prices, it only cost $5.00 to fill the tank! That vehicle amazingly changed my mind about hybrids!

Regarding the transmission, you said, "It's electronic, but it's still a CVT". Compared to any other CVT on the market, NO, IT ISN'T. It has no cones or belts or variable ratio. It's a differential, a one-speed planetary gearset that is basically bullet proof. They only called it a CVT because they didn't know what else to call it. Together with the electric motors, it acts like a CVT. Period.

I now have a red Prius Prime: lots of people are stopping and asking me about the car (in disbelief it's a Prius and not some new Tesla). The Prime is also a great all in one for my uses: I can daily drive on it's 40 mile EV range in Atlanta. Then I get great hybrid range driving through state highways to visit family in NC (in areas that will not be getting Tesla surperchargers anytime soon). The Prime has slightly more HP and speed: so the pickup seems sporty from where I came from (a 3rd gen Prius). Another nice selling point for me was the battery warranty is now 150K miles (gen 3 was 100).

@@gugy68 Yeah, when I was looking at getting the car I was hearing about the issues of availability and some dealers having large markup. I kept checking Toyota's website until I saw a Prius listed that I liked. Made the deposit at the dealer that day. They didn't have unusual markup with the out the door price. Found out while buying the car that they were trying to get you on extended warranties. The SE is also getting way less Primes than CA.
