@@craigsparks1442 well. Toyota is still producing lc76 and lc79 series which are solid axles. Which the Jimny's charm lies on. Toyota has the engineering to do it but they won't compete with the Jimny as it will surely kill off Suzuki as a brand. It is a Jap thing perhaps. They keeping the competition alive as it will attract scrutiny (due to monopoly?) .

My wife and I slept in the Jimny for the first time last weekend. Just dropped the seats and put two pieces of 120mm thick foam down from the steering wheel to the back door. While driving they both fit in the back with the rear seats dropped with room for 3 big boxes on top.Felt just like a double bed, very comfy. I slept passenger side because I am 180cm and was fine. Wife slept passenger side and she is 167cm. All our gear we stowed under the car in 3 waterproof 40 litre boxes. No roof basket needed. Doing it again this weekend. Only took 40 seconds to set up.

Pretty doubtful. The Jimny has areas it can be improved over, but for the price point, capabilities and overall charm it's incredibly hard to beat. I've got mine on order and cannot wait

Here it's (jimny) like €35k new, and only available as a van with no backseats, so guess that Toyota would be like €45k.

In Australia, the Jimmy has gone up stupidly in price. It was once about $28K drive away.. now it’s about $37K, and that’s for a “Lite” which has less equipment. If Toyota wants to torpedo Suzuki, they need to get in at $35K. But they won’t, because Toyota has shares in Suzuki - 4.9%

I own a 4th gen Jimny, and if Toyota release a similar sized wagon with a decent power train it will be a no brainer to swap over to. I doubt they'll be able to compete close to the same price point however

No car is perfect, that being said Jimny is just too good, I don't think any car in the same segment can beat Jimny. I already have 5 door here in India for year now and it's equally capable as 3 door in offroad and better in so many other ways. When i see it in the videos, the car always seem to look disproportionate in length to breadth ratio but i see it in person and it's definitely not. I'm loving it so much

Suzuki has a big following in Australia as a car for Motorhome to tow behind so they have a car to site see once set-up in stead of having to pack up to drive motorhome to shops or tourist sites. There is a cue to get them specifically for this reason.

I have high hopes for Toyota's Landcruiser mini. I hope it doesn't look like the photos I have seen. I do hope that it will be about 174 inches long, 72 inches wide, 66 inches long, have 9 inches of ground clearance, a 108 inch wheelbase, weigh less than 3,500 pounds, be powered by Toyota's own 2.5 litre engine that makes about 185 horsepower, uses an 8 speed automatic but could come with a 6 speed manual, could get a combined fuel economy of 28 mpg (26/33). Those are reasonable numbers in today's world. As far as exterior design goes, how about combining some G Wagon front and Range Rover rear?

I own the older model of the Jimny and I can simly say,it is the best car I ever had.It is 23 yers old and never ever had any problem with it.Even if it keeps running here on the icy and snowy ruged narrow roads on the Alps, I want to buy the new one with 5 doors. .....but... this model will not be available for the Eu market ! Cannot express my disapponintment. So now I am waiting for the new mini land crusier,hoping it will be available over here !

the jimny already exists so there's no need to reinvent the wheel. i'd prefer if they built a yaris-cross sized offroader that's monocoque and have 4-wheel independent suspension like pajero, but smaller. kinda like a crosstrek but with good approach angle. crosstrek has ridiculously bad approach angle

What all the car reviewers forget is most people are looking for price point, whats the best thing i can get for my money, not what is the best performance i can get in this car class. Same with for example the isuzu mux 4wd starting at 61k drive away vs the ford everest sport which is 81k drive away and thats only the mid range everest... id rather not spend the extra on stuff i dont need.

With all respect, comparing this Toyota to a Jimny makes absolutely no sense...let me explain. 1. Every manufacturer that's targeting the Jimny market make their cars bigger....why! You already missed a key point that Jimny owners want the compact size as parking is easy, and manoeuvring in urban spaces is easy... it fits everywhere! 2. The turning circle is best of all 4 seaters, and perhaps even now, 4 doors...under 10 meters...majority of same sized cars are around 11 meters. This small turning circle adds to the ease of parking, 4x4 ing etc. If you go over 10 metres, you've missed the target market yet again. 3. Legendary simplicity, but yet most basic comforts. Keeping it simple means lower price, and really under €30k...coming in at closer to €40k is 25% off... 4. Dimensions...already mentioned it, but keep to the exact dimensions, and you have a winner....if it ain't broken, don't fix it! 5. Legendary 4x4 capabilities... I've seen these little cars go where Range Rovers and other big fancy 4x4s would dream going...stick to the simplicity of the 4x4 drivetrain. In closing, there seems to be many OEM's thinking they going to dethrone they Jimny with their new offer, but then missing pretty much all of the areas, that make a Jimny so bloody good...till then Suzuki will continue to rule this segment :-)... my 2c's

ill be the first to admit I am compromised as all hell when it comes to the Jimny, my girlfriend was looking for a Terios about 2 years ago and bought a Jimny instead and now I own two of the dam things lol a 2000 3rd gen and a 2007 both manuals(she still has hers, an 09 automatic), and its true...driving around normally on my bad roads the car skips all over the place so it takes focus to keep it tracking straight and to live with one as an only car does take some dedication (i also own a rav4 which makes this easier) but that aside one thing that a lot of these manufacturers always seem to miss is the community behind the cars, the Jimny has a massive following and aftermarket part support for all generations of Jimny minus the 1st gen also the Jimny being dirt simple also lends it self well to being modded, which makes any old run of the mill Jimny... your Jimny and that again lends itself well to community as people come together to talk about what mods they run, what fixes they have had to do and what adventures they been on and lets not forget that Toyota did have a competitor for the Jimny before in the form of the Daihatsu Terios/Toyota Rush and that never really went anywhere

Try $40k plus for a Jimny. In NSW anyway. Cheapest I can find on car sales second hand is $33k. Search done from 2020 onwards.

Expensive LandCruiser's waiting period is 4 years, this one will have waiting period of 8 years. They need to work on production quantity not cheaper cars. People will buy cheaper Jimny and modify it for cheaper.

Yes, I have been shopping recently and found like you, the adverticement for $28k a JOKE. I decided to look at Tank 300, but if Landcruiser Mini comes in around the same price as Tank 300, I would buy Toyota ahead of Tank. Jimny has been priced out of competition ($AUD 40K) and is inferior to Tank and Toyopta

I'm interested in what type of body chassis they're using especially with that price. A ladder frame isn't cheap and some news saying it's might be a unibody. I wonder if it's a hybrid body chasis (partial ladder frame on unibody), like the 7 seat Daihatsu Terios also called Toyota Rush, considering Toyota had own most of Daihatsu ownership stock.

Well, the actual competitor for this is more the GWM Tank 300 and in the US the Ford Bronco. As obscure as that sounds, they are a similar size, similar engines and similarly priced.

Cheapest new/demo Jimny Lite on carsales drive away from a dealer in Victoria is AU$38,000, don't know about ordering from Suzuki because you have to request a quote/callback. So realistically a lot more than AU$27,000 + ORC

The Jimny is successful because it is so AFFORDABLE. Owners of the Jimny ( or at least a great portion of owners) are satisfied with the lack of power, lack of luxury and, in particular, the lack of space because it is so well set off by the affordability. The only way any competition will be able to compete, is if it matches the Jimny in price. If it is small to a similar extent to the Jimny but not as affordable, then there would be no point and purpose to the vehicle and nothing for Suzuki to worry about.

Seems to me the problem with the Toyota is it wont be a basic relatively cheap vehicle. I am sure that will appeal to those with the cash but the Jimny is a great size and sufficiently basic to not have to worry so much about it. It also lends itself to modification. It’s the same issue with the Ineos Grenadier. It sounded great when it was first announced and now that it is here it is so expensive you have to be rich to use it as an off roader. For off roading you need a capable car you can easily repair at an affordable price. This is why i keep my old Land Rover Defender. It does the job very well, I can repair pretty much any of it myself, parts are relatively cheap and easy to source.

If Toyota manufacturers this new Land Cruiser Mini in India it would sell in great numbers, a market of 1450 million people that wants a durable, reliable, efficient, affordable SUV, even Suzuki Jimny is exclusively manufactured here in India, it would be unwise for Toyota to manufacture this new mini Land Cruiser in Thailand as that would essentially mean giving up on the biggest compact SUV market in the world. Toyota needs to build this Mini Land Cruiser in India or Local Champion (Rising)Mahindra would eat Toyota's market of utility vehicle everywhere. Building this Mini Land Cruiser in India would also reduce the world wide unit price of this car as Toyota would already have a giant market with a growing population to profit from. Can even make a pickup truck out of this concept, that would open another market segment for Toyota.

The problem with the Jimny is too light on the highway. It comes in like a 1945 WILLY that is also too light for highway driving. The front end float and they are only good below 40 mph on a farm.

It's called LandCruiser 250 and it has almost exactly the same frame as the new 300. Also it's really big. Within 30cm of the 300. Basically there's nothing mini about it.

Why are the side mirrors so big! Really annoying if you want to look out or take photos to the side. Especially as the reason you go off road is to see things such as wild animals , spectacular scenery.

Here in South America most Toyota Hilux (made in Argentina) comes with a 2.4 Diesel, don't know if this engine is used in Thailand made Toyotas but I would think it woulb be a better fit for the Land Cruiser Mini.

1:43 I am a Toyota man through and through but Toyota have a long way to go to beat the value and quality of the Suzuki Jimny. Its a fantastic vehicle. Suzuki hit the nail right on head. Stop critisizing the Jimny just to push Toyota. The Suzuki is in a class of its own. You are struggling to find ways to run the Jimny down. I am keeping my Hilux Toyota but had driven and ordered my Jimny. The feel good factor of the Suzuki is awesome. Toyota are having to build a cheaper vehicle to try match the quality of Suzuki Sorry Suzuki win this round hands down. Its in a class of its own. Give it some praise it deserves.
