I drove a 2021 2 door Tacoma with around 12000mi automatic in the spring 2021. 8-9 weeks: armed security 🚔. Central FL. Overall I'd give the Tacoma model a 7 or 8 out of 10. The truck was not real zippy with the regular engine. The driver seat was a strain after 4hr or so. If you wanted a work, extended driver truck 🛻 that was a point. ⛽️ was +. I drove around alone listening to 🎤 stand up comics, 6-7hr on the free Toyota XM 🛰. Fun!

Better to wait for a couple of years to buy the new Gen Tacoma. Give Toyota the time to work out the bugs. I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD with extensive mods but will be looking at the hybrid version in 2025. Toyota is the uncontested best builder of hybrid technology and has been for the past 20 years.

They are, it's odd how they go that far in the name of efficiency even though diesel, which is just gasoline without the extra carbon burnt out, is either nearly if not just as efficient as hybrid technology. It would be easy to integrate a diesel engine into a hybrid drivetrain btw, every reason diesel is considered incompatible with a hybrid drivetrain is easily fixed with a higher gear ratio wherever the torque of the crankshaft is applied, and all without eliminating the ability to use that available torque without a higher gear. Perhaps the emissions control hardware occupies too much space to be used with hybrid drivetrain hardware at the same time. I could also see the extra production cost of hybrid in conjunction with that of diesel being a factor in the inexistence of diesel hybrid vehicles.

I also work in automotive electronics, and still drive a 2010 Mazda 3 manual 5 speed. I 1000% agree, for us that see how the sausage is actually made, less is more with electronics. More complexity just means more things that I will eventually have to repair later in the vehicles life. And some things make zero freaking sense to convert to electronics. Electronic parking brakes, steer by wire, etc. are all giant hassles waiting to happen with no real benefit to the customer.

I think turbo hybrids are bean counter nightmares. Great to buy new if youre rich, scary to buy if youre buying it used in 15 years. College is cheaper and it turns out its rarely worth it also. They want to phase out the used market by making vehicles that dont last. They want to recycle the vehicle at the 15 year mark it seems like. Want you to go spend another 35k. In 30 years goodbye 60k if you do that 3 times in life theyll suck off at least 240k off you. Im not about it. Do we really need our cars to drive themselves at immense cost? Ive been doing fine actually driving on my own i cant afford 15k full self driving unlock. Even if i could it feels like a robbery after you paid 50k for the car. For 50k it should already drive itself it shoold also do do my taxes cook my dinner and read my mind

You almost got it right, Scotty. The Salish tribe in WA state has always called the mountain "Tahoma", meaning she who gives water, bc their water source from glacial melt comes from there. I live in Tacoma, WA which is named after the real name for Mt. Rainer. My 2021 taco gets up Mt Rainer in the storm and winter no problem. Idk if Toyota knows that, but it make sense bc only a little 1st gen truck would make it to some barrow trails. Even my 3rd Gen is too big and I need a chainsaw clear the falling branches.

Imo unless Toyota totally screws up, the Tacoma will continue to dominate. I do appreciate Toyota is being more conservative about EVs. Yes, they did have a small tumble, but compared to GM and LG's debacle years ago that was minor. Also it should be noted that most automakers (Ford for example) who have invested heavy in EVs have also lost money 💰 and removed many of their workers as a way to cut costs. Even some of the European countries like France 🇫🇷 are saying these goals are unrealistic.

That would be nice, it would make them cheaper too since they use a unibody design. Everyone complains about the Maverick not being a "real" truck because it's not body on frame. Well, not everyone needs an F-150. Some people never take their trucks off road and only drive them on pavement but would still benefit from a truck bed to haul work tools and materials and smaller loads in general. Consumerism has made it impossible for the common person to buy a bare bones truck. You can't buy a truck anymore for 25-30k because everything on Ford and Dodges lots are fully loaded luxury trucks costing 6 figures....

The alternator cost over $2,000.00 and labor was just over $2,000.00 each time. I could tell you more but I know that you could tell us all a whole lot more….if you wanted to. Problem is not so much with Turbos as there is with Fuel... I am often traveling between Europe and USA, one thing stands out, their Regular fuel is 95 Octane, mid grade is 98 Octane and premium is 100 Octane, often labeled RACE at gas pumps. Their fuel also does not consists of any corn based Ethanol. Almost all of their engines there are now Turbo and they aren't considered problematic at all. However, everyone i spoke to there says they'd never put fuel into a Turbo motor that is under 95 Octane, and definitely never with corn ethanol. New 2024 Tacoma calls for Premium fuel, but North American Premium Fuel is significantly worse than European Regular Fuel. So fuel we use has very negative impact on Reliability of the Turbo Engine, longevity and performance. Our fuel is the negative contributing factor.
