Thanks so much for posting this video. It was extremely helpful. Just finished installing a new Nav system with back-up cam in my wife's 2014 XLE Sienna, that does come with the factory Nav system. I did buy the Cam TY11 adapter in order to try to make retaining the factory dash Cam duplicated on the new head unit back-up cam, but there we some challenges. Thanks for the details on the correct wire for positive and negative cam signal to feed the new one to duplicate on the new head unit, as well as identifying the back-up 12 volt signal from the factory. Greatly appreciated.

Hey Scott, when you connect Cam Ty11 adapter to the head unit, did the camera turn on when the gear is in reverse? I can see the camera works by pressing camera view button on my head unit but putting reverse gear won't trigger the head unit to show the back up camera while the small screen comes up.

I used your video wiring thank you a lot. However when I connect after market radio display the signal degrades. Original Toyota display becomes darker and both displays have some waves over images. I believe it would be better to use RCA splitter/booster or just disconnect original display in order to have a better and brighter picture on the bigger display.

Same happened with me. I used 2 wires and one trigger black wire from the factory harness to my android display, however the images are distorted...it's like multiple images in one screen. But the factory monitor (small) display was all right. I don't know what to do now. How do I overcome this issue?

Absolutely killer video. Seriously. If your car already had XM, there is an adapter that can be used so that the existing car's antenna taps into the new HU. Did you explore that option?
@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 6 жыл бұрын
I didn’t explore that but I believe you’re correct. The challenge would be getting the plastic clip section of the Antenna Cable to plug in. The actual plug itself is the same I think, but the plastic shroud that secures it to the radio would be different. With a little patience it should be possible to do what you suggest.

Thanks again for this vid. I installed a Pioneer this weekend on a '13 sienna w/o JBL and used the maestro RR unit with the T01 harness. That harness assumes you're going to use an aftermarket camera, and when I used only the two wires on it I could not get it to work at all, so finally found an old RCA in a junk bin hooked up as you did in this vid, and it's working. In the case of the T01/maestro combo I got from crutchfield I didn't need to worry about a backup signal as it was already covered in the other harness. Wife will be pleased because the tiny screen we've had to use for five years is really awful. Backups is now on both displays.

Hi, thank you for uploading the video. So if I want to keep using the small screen to back up, should I just leave small screen wires as is? Basically installing a new system does not interfere with the back up camera, is this correct?

How did your radio replacement end up? Is the microphone placement good enough? Also, did your car come with steering wheel controls?
@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 6 жыл бұрын
The install went very nicely. The mic works well in that location. The car has steering wheel controls and we were able to interface those with this radio using an AWSC-1 From AXXESS. The only controls I couldn't get to work on the steering wheel were the phone controls for picking up the call and ending the call.

@arlom2735 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, Thanks very much for the video! For the AWSC-1, can you let us know if you used a harness to connect to the car's steering wheel buttons? I saw the Metra 70-8114, which is a 20-pin but it looks too large. Or did you just cut the three wires shown here: (metradealer.com/files/aswc/ASWC-1_INST_602.pdf)? Also, did you have any issues with the speakers in the front dash (5th and 6th speakers)? Since the typical harness is for 4 speakers, I am not sure how these are wired.

Hi Joe, Is the Bluetooth in the Toyota Sienna 2011 Minivan built into the radio or dashboard? Can the Bluetooth be deactivated or removed from the radio or dashboard, or does a whole new radio need to be installed without the Bluetooth? I know this is a unique question, but some of my family members are getting bad headaches and fatigue from the high EMF's coming from the Bluetooth. Thank you very much.
@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 5 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting situation. The Bluetooth is in the radio. I don’t believe it’s possible to deactivate the Bluetooth. Or it would be so labor intensive as to make it more cost effective to replace it with a Non-Bluetooth radio. A couple things to think about: Does leaving the radio off help? If not, Bluetooth from the radio may not be the problem. You will have no Bluetooth activity with the radio off. Does not using the Bluetooth help? For example if the FM radio is being used the Bluetooth activity should be minimal or zero. Also note that Bluetooth works in the same frequency range as a 2.4Ghz cordless home phone. I would think that similar issues would exist with that kind of phone. Best of luck sorting this out.

@@JoesCarSmartsNY Thank you so much for your expertise. We are still getting very high radio frequency readings on our meter and headaches even when the Toyota radio is turned off. But you're saying that the Bluetooth is still built into the radio system? If so, what type of radio would we try to purchase as a replacement that does not have Bluetooth or other wireless features? Also, would a replacement radio be able to be used with the Toyota built-in DVD player?
@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 5 жыл бұрын
@@Noah1617 A different radio won't be compatible with the Toyota DVD system. There are other RF sources in that vehicle. You may have Satellite Radio, which should also be off when the radio is off. You'll also have a TPMS system that transmits via RF. With the radio off, Bluetooth is definitely not active from the radio. The other way to rule out the radio if you're still suspecting it is to follow this video and remove the radio as a test. With the radio out, and if you're still getting unpleasant RF readings, then your RF source is not the van's radio. You will have to do some searching to find a new model radio without Bluetooth. They're hard to come by. You'll probably be getting a much older model to put in that vehicle. I'd spend more time making sure that the existing radio is actually the source of the RF causing the problems for you.

On my '13 sienna w/o JBL I used from crutchfield the maestro and T01 harness combo. The factory USB absolutely does work; it charges, and the unit even plays mp3s from it, although it only works so/so. If a drive with music is plugged into the back of the head unit into its native mp3 slot it worked a lot better. As for aux I spent 30 min playing around and I can't get it to work. I don't much care, and it should work, but it's just not. I am going to recommend that maestro thing. It's nice now--for example holding plus volume on steering wheel now brings me to a screen with individual tire pressure. All steering controls work and now the voice button on the right side of steering wheel triggers siri on my iphone instead of the pitiful toyota voice crap.

My aftermarket radio has a video in plug... If I'm tapping into the positive and negative video line that goes into the info display you showing your video, shouldn't that automatically make the switch happen? Otherwise, what is making that stock video screen switch from info to reverse camera? (It's for one of those Android head units)
@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 5 жыл бұрын
Each vehicle is different in how the manufacturer activates the backup camera system. Some will use a reverse wire lead that will trigger the system when the reverse lights come one. Others do it with a digital signal that’s difficult or impossible to duplicate. What you need to do is tap into the wire that activates the reverse lights in your vehicle because the aftermarket radio will NOT switch over to the reverse camera input unless you tell it to with the reverse light wire.
@CFDBlakestr
@CFDBlakestr 5 жыл бұрын
@@JoesCarSmartsNY Thanks for the fast reply - my only confusion was what makes the info screen switch over, if those to wires you pointed out, perhaps one of them is hooked up to a reverse wire down the line somewhere?
@JoesCarSmartsNY
@JoesCarSmartsNY 5 жыл бұрын
@@CFDBlakestr Those two wires only carry the video signal. The trigger telling the car's screen to switch to the rear camera comes from another source. Not sure how Toyota has it set up exactly, but it could be digital on the CAN BUS system which makes it difficult or impossible to interface with.

@@JoesCarSmartsNY Again, THANK YOU for your help - last question (probably)....would disconnecting the video pos/neg from the Toyota Infoscreen stop the reverse from cutting in, or would it just cut into a blank feed? I'd like it to only show up on my android head unit and just keep the info screen as it is and never switch at all on that part. Does that mean sense (that way you don't have a reverse camera image on the big screen and a little tiny duplicate right above it)
