This is a quick video of my Toyota Soarer UZZ32, number 453 out of 873 ever built (pretty rare machine). Please keep in mind this car was made in 1991, the features on it were simply amazing for that year.
This model is also known as the Lexus SC400 in the US however it doesn't feature most of the goodies the JDM only Soarer had. Funny enough the body was designed in California and it was the first car to be completely computer designed (CAD). I have to say the designers did an amazing job, it still looks special and not so outdated.
In the video I showcase the computer controlled active hidro-pneumatic suspension on some train track slates (notice how level the body is), show the four wheel steering system (4WS), give you a little taste of the stock exhaust note of the amazing 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8 engine and also show the interior of the car and some of it's features. At some point you'll hear some strange noises from the mirror, that's actually the ultrasound cleaning feature. Pretty awesome, eh ?
I mostly made the video so that I can show the car to prospective buyers as I wanted to sell it but I just couldn't bear to let it go, it's pretty special to me.
More details soon.

This was the first production car to have a reverse camera and factory installed GPS, so it's safe to say that this was ahead of it's time. Nowadays, these types of futures are basically on every car and eventually became required in 2018 (reverse cameras at least). It's hard to think that this was basically unheard of 10 years ago, even in the early 2010's this seemed to be pretty uncommon.

And even before backup cameras were mandated to be industry standard, Toyota and Lexus have especially been making advanced safety features like a pre-collision warning system as standard equipment on every single vehicle in their lineup. Also the kind of features that many automakers, including luxury car makers, still want you to pay extra for.

I have owned one since early 2001, everything still works and it has done only 227000 klm. mine is used very little and other than the clear coat which is now starting to lift is still an impressive eye catcher, the interior is still immaculate and shows little signs of wear. As these cars were never sold new outside of Japan you had to wait until one came up for auction this usually would happen after three years or more of being registered in Japan and you had to either Import it yourself or purchase one already in your country. There are many standard features on the UZZ32 like the GPS, and TV which would only work in Japan, I had those components on my vehicle converted to work on the in dash EMV Touch Screen. The GPS and the TV and VHS Player I had fitted all work fine but all three require remote controls a bit annoying but they work through the existing sound system. What can I say at near 28 years old for my 1991 UZZ32 Soarer is one of the 80 odd still known to exist, this is not because they wore out but the they were damaged or written off due to human error. The UZZ32's are still the most amazing vehicle of their time an engineering and a Technological marvel, one of the classic cars of all time that are still relatively unknown they still impress even the most educated of car buffs.

@@karmveer240 here is a Quote about the V8 Soarers. The UZZ31 featured a driver-adjustable air suspension system that had two settings for both ride height and damper stiffness. The air 'bag' pressure was controlled by an electric pump mounted at the front of the car. Also featured on the UZZ31 series were a host of electronic goodies including automatic headlights, speed-sensitive wipers, electric controlled and heated seats with two-position memory, electronic collapsible steering column with memory, reversing camera, cabin air purifying system, touch screen TV with 12 stack CD player, touch screen SatNav, and a full on board computer diagnostic system which would output to the TV display unit. The UZZ32 was the top of the line 30 series featuring all of the options available on the UZZ31 but with the added feature of four-wheel steering and a complex hydro-pneumatic, computer-controlled active suspension system. This did away with conventional springs and anti-roll (stabiliser) bars in favour of hydraulic struts controlled by an array of sensors (such as yaw velocity sensors, vertical G sensors, height sensors, wheel speed sensors, longitudinal and lateral G sensors) that detected cornering, acceleration and braking forces. The system worked well and gave an unusually controlled yet smooth ride with no body roll. However, the additional weight of the system affected straight-line performance somewhat, so a re-mapped ECU was introduced to allow better 'off line' performance.[citation needed] The car was costly to produce and at close to 8million Yen in 1995,[2] expensive to buy. As a result, only 873 UZZ32's were made and are now collectors items in the UK and Australia. The UZZ32 Soarer became the second shortest production run model for Toyota following the 2000GT in the late 60's.

@@karmveer240 If you could buy a new one 8,000,000 yen was around $200,000 USD in Japan, then add on Import Duties etc. It would be close to $300,000 with Shipping Costs, Insurance, Importers Margin, Dealer Floorplan Costs and Dealer Margin, they were twice the price of a big BMW or Merc in 1991.

Ultrasonic mirrors... Just read an article today where MacLaren is trying to use this technology to replace windshield wipers. How well does the cleaning work? If you get dirt/bird droppings on the glass does it come off or do you have to wipe it still?
@OctavXSW
@OctavXSW 9 жыл бұрын
andy993 Well, they adopted the suspension so I guess ultrasonic tech is next. I don't think the tech was mature enough back then and also, after so many years, the mirror surface will no longer be perfect due to scratches and pores so I can't say that it worked all that well. It does "something" but it's not magical and, really, you're better off cleaning/wiping them as you would a normal mirror :)
@MrMightyZ
@MrMightyZ 9 жыл бұрын
They vibrate and heat up but one source says here in Australia the heating function should have been disabled for compliance, although some report this slipping past the eyes of the compliance engineer. Sounds believable to me as my UZZ31 loses about 30% of droplets and though I hear a high pitch sound I don't see any steam but one KZbin demo I saw showed steam and the mirror sloughing off at least 3/4 of droplets. (I got a low kilometre zz31 in stunning condition and have put 4000 kays on it now and it is the most fiercely delightful car ownership experience I've had. The silky smoothness of the engine still blows me away every single day:)

BobbyDeniroX Actually the mk4 Supra is built on the Soarer platform so this is the "original" Supra. What they did is take out most of the luxury (and weight), shorten the wheelbase and change the body. But underneath they're pretty much the same, architecture wise. To clarify, the Soarer/SC400 was out in 1991 and the legendary Supra mk4 in 1994. So you can consider the Soarer as the daddy of the Supra.
