Forgive my ignorance, but are you saying that I only need 1 wiring harness for 3 different light sources? Example: I have the same CH4x4 switches (roof rack light bar, ditch lights and LED light bar) and the lights come with their own harnesses and cheapo switches. I set up a blue sea fuse block and circuit breaker and am trying to keep everything localized, clean and easy. I feel like I'm so close to this all making sense. I really like the way you did everything and would like to mimic it, but I am lost at the combining the wires minus the R1 to connect to 1 harness.

Each light source should have its own main power wire harness (usually it should include a relay). When using multiple switches for multiple light sources, the switches can share 3 of the 4 wires (12v power, illumination, and ground). The 4th wire (one per switch) is used to send a signal to the particular accessory you are trying to turn on when pressing the switch. This wire connects to the relay that is part of your accessory's power wire harness and commands the relay to send full power to that accessory. The only thing that the switches do is send a signal to a relay. The relay is then responsible for sending the main power to your electrical accessory via the power wire harness that comes with your accessory. I hope this info helps 😁👍

@@LevelUpMechanics Thanks for the reply! So I watched the other vid (really liked those illumination switch harnesses BTW), and if I understand correctly, you spliced/combined the three light harnesses together minus the relay wires to then attach to the grouped switch wires? By doing that you only pushed 1 three strand group of wires through the firewall to make that connection? Then you attached the spliced light harnesses(now 2 individual wires to your fuse block? Sorry, I'm a very visual learner!

Yes, you can control the brightness just like the rest of dash with the factory dimmer function.

Hello, I'm wondering how I can know which cable is the green one for your Tacoma, but how can I check that it's the correct one to power the other switches?
@LevelUpMechanics
@LevelUpMechanics Ай бұрын
So, each aftermarket switch has 4 wires Green - you connect to the battery with an in-line fuse (3 amp / 5 amp fuse) . (12v power in) Red 1 - This wire will send a signal to the relay that controls sending power to your aftermarket accessory when you push the switch on. (12v power out) Red 2 - This wire just connects / taps into a wire from your original Toyota oem switches and is used to illuminate the switch when you turn your headlights on... to find the oem wire, you just have to find a wire from the oem switch connectors that has 12v only when your headlights are on (and 0v when your headlights are off). Black - this is your ground wire that you will attach to a ground point on your vehicle. All the switches do is send a 12v / 5 amp signal to a relay. The relay is in charge of sending FULL POWER - 12v / 30-40 amp - to the accessory. I hope this info helps... 😁👍

Is it okay use one relay for 3 switches?
@LevelUpMechanics
@LevelUpMechanics Жыл бұрын
If you do that, then the 3 switches will all control just 1 relay (which would defeat the purpose of controlling separate electrical components)... I hope that makes sense 😋.
@LevelUpMechanics
@LevelUpMechanics Жыл бұрын
The relay is what controls sending power to an electrical device. The switch is used just to tell the relay when to send that power.

Is the switch you used still necessary if I have a blue sea systems fuse box ?
@LevelUpMechanics
@LevelUpMechanics 2 жыл бұрын
No, it's not necessary. You can still use the generic switch that comes with the aftermarket electrical accessory (like the light bar). I just used the oem-style switches in this video because that's the setup I wanted. I hope I'm answering / understanding your question correctly? 😆

@@LevelUpMechanics I think I understand it a little better. I have all the supplies needed to tackle this The 3 wires at 14:01 are they all 18G wires I believe one was hot the other was a ground and the blue one was for a relay?
@LevelUpMechanics
@LevelUpMechanics 2 жыл бұрын
The black wire = ground (shared for all of my switches) The white wire = 3 amp fused power wire from the battery (shared for all of my switches) Blue wire = signal wire (not shared) that sends voltage to the relay (once the "individual" switch is pressed), telling the relay to "turn on" the lightbar / accessory. I hope this info helps 😁

I love Cali-raised! Great stuff at great prices, but 3 switches wasn't enough. They sell great 8 switch "control box." The only problem that I see is that they don't have color options. I'm lovin the red switches with the red truck!
@LevelUpMechanics
@LevelUpMechanics 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I definitely like the look of the oem-style switches in red too lol 😆. This Tacoma of mine is going to be a never-ending build... One good thing to note is that, since my tacoma is a TRD Sport, I still have room in other places inside the cabin to add additional switches as I continue to build. Once I'm ready to add even more, I'll definitely look into Meso Customs overhead switch panels to allow me the ability to add more switches in the "dead-space" that I have near the map lights. That way I can create more space available for more oem-style switches lol 😆 But until then, I need to start hooking up some accessories to these switches that I currently have. Thanks for checking out the video!

Won’t fit on all Toyota Tacoma’s. Mine is a 2022 4x4 Off Road XP package and it won’t fit. There’s a extra button already at the top so the box isn’t there and there isn’t anything to unscrew and no way to attach this part unless you take a risk and do some cutting. Personally I think that’s BS and nonsense because there’s two empty slots at the bottom Toyota could have used instead, like why didn’t they put that one button in one of those spots and leave the top fully empty knowing majority of Tacoma owners will mod it. Thanks a lot Toyota.😭

Well, that's annoying, to say the least. I made an updated video after this one. There are some new modular switch panels that are available now, from Guild Outfitters, that might provide a solution for your Tacoma 👍. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3uzf319j96Sd7c

@LevelUpMechanics
@LevelUpMechanics 2 жыл бұрын
A relay basically allows you to use a "low power" switch (usually less than 3 amps) to control when you want to send "a large amount of power" (for example, 30 amps to a lightbar that needs a lot of power) to an accessory. If you only used a low power switch (3 amps) to send power to a lightbar (that needs 30 amps), you would melt the switch and possibly create an electrical fire 🔥. A relay just allows you to control when you want to send a lot of power to an accessory by using a "low-power" switch.
