The quart bottle screwing directly into the oil fill is an amazing "hack". I'm always super paranoid in going to get sand and grit into my engine from a dirty funnel. This totally avoids that and saved me from every buying another funnel for the Tacoma!

@DOOSHEAN
@DOOSHEAN 5 жыл бұрын
The TacomaKid I’m not worried about the design, I understand that they function the same. I just would prefer a normal metal filter. I don’t care that they produce a little more waste. It’s just a little bit of metal. The oil filter setup on my 2nd gen Tacoma was much better and easier. Fees like they went backwards with this one.

@@DOOSHEAN lol a little bit of waste! That's why this world is so f$%k up.
@DOOSHEAN
@DOOSHEAN 5 жыл бұрын
The TacomaKid I’m sorry my opinion on an oil change offended you. I’m not careless about waste and pollution. I pick up other people’s trash when I’m outdoors. I care about the wilderness and keeping it clean. I recycle as much of my waste as I can. Including metal filters when I changed the oil in my old truck. It’s honestly kind of funny that you got pissed off and brought up politics. You should learn to not get so easily offended and assume things about other people.
@DOOSHEAN
@DOOSHEAN 5 жыл бұрын
Oscar Pallares I actually agree with you, but metal in an oil filter is very minuscule. Also, it’s not very hard to not throw them away, and take used filters and oil back to the auto parts store for recycling.

Good video and nice Tacoma. Smart idea to improvise cutting the quart for a funnel. I would caution that it probably isn't good practice to cut it in place as shown in the video. A piece of plastic could potentially get cut off and fall into the oil filler. I have over 200,000 on my Gen 2 but look forward to getting a Gen 3 soon. Thumbs up.

Yeah, i broke two of the cheaper stamped cup tools with a 1/2 driver. Ended up having to buy a forged one and use a 24” 5/8 breaker bar to get it loose. Concerned it being run so overtighted compromised the composite housing. Spec is about 18ftlbs, which you can essentially do by hand…

Good Video. I have a Camry with the same type of oil filter arrangement. I would like to meet the Toyota Engineer that designed that oil filter system. I would make him lick the spilled oil up off my driveway. That spout you push into the bottom of the housing just makes a mess. Better off (not by much) with the type that screw in.

For God's sake don't remove this thing. I followed the videos instructions and once you take it off it is INSANELY OBVIOUS this clip is not ment to be removed and put back on repeatedly; it is a very hard steel, and the thin tabs that hold it in place are not ment to flex back and forth. If I had to guess this thing is CRIMPED ON at the factory. Look at the tabs on the clip and how they grip onto the structure, they are CRIMPED ON. shame on the video uploader for putting this info out without correcting it.
