Hi Austin, Great series of videos, thanks! I do custom engine swaps for business up in Maine. I recently ran into a similar problem of my 09 Lincoln MKZ 3.5 engine cutting out at exactly 2400 RPM regardless of throttle position as installed in my customers 1974 Volvo 164. It turned out to be a factory set rev limiter at 2400 RPMs if you were not in gear. Since I had adapted the 3.5 v6 to a Ford AOD transmission for the rear wheel drive Volvo, the Ford computer was not seeing a signal that the transmission was in drive. Luckily I have an HP tuners programmer so I could raise the neutral rev limit to match the ultimate rev limit of 6700. Since you've swapped your transmission and your engine came out of an automatic car I'm wondering if you have the same problem. If so all you have to do it seems is to feed your VW computer the signal that your transmission is in drive. Hope this helps, Ross

It sounds as if a cam or lifter is bad. That could be the cause of the cutting out problem. Luckily its not too bad on the Alh

With the 22r motor my shifting point was 3600 RPM

Are you using all the jetta wiring and obd2 port ect? If so there are several tuners out there for those. Talk to one of those guys they may be able to help ya.

I hope its something that is easily diagnosed soon. Did it throw any codes? Maybe something with the pump or ecu or something to do with boost pressure possibly? hopefully not slipped timing.

It sounds like an over boost condition, and the ECM is taking over and putting the car in limp mode

Are you having any problems with clutch chatter using that adapter plate?

I'm using the same adapter. Mine only chatters some. But I'm using an unsprung puck clutch with my conversion. The noise of the engine in my swap usually drowns out any other noise.

@@austinniemela yeah. But I didnt want to have to change the clutch again because it dropped a spring like nearly all diesel clutches do eventually.

I know some tuners put a “popcorn” “hard cut” limiter in their tunes... don’t ask me why lol kids but maybe that’s what’s in yours?

What are you using for tachometer signal splicing? Are you using something similar to a Dakota digital tachometer interface, or are you just using the VW tach output and running it straight to the Toyota tachometer?
