Much appreciation for putting this together, truly a master smith of the ancient Tercel and a worthy claimant to throne of Toyotathon

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video! I cleaned and rebuilt my 1983 Tercel carburetor with ease thanks to this video!

Outstanding upload. Steps covered in painstakingly clear detail & no rap/techno-dance/ hiphop noise to sit through. It'll be nice to have a clear reference to all the major & minor assemblies when I do this. Well done.

Hi there Robert, I am so glad I found someone on youtube with videos on the Tercel. I am at a delimma with my 84 Tercel hatch, I need a kit to rebuild the carb but there are so many different models of the carb and some kits don't have all the parts. I cannot find a kit for my model 15430 3A-C Tercel 2wd carb. Any suggestions would be helpful.

the kit currently on rockauto.com has worked for all of the variations of the 3a engine carbs that i have messed with. its around $32.00.

Any ideas where you can get a new one of those “G” clips for the accelerator pump ball bearing

Man I'm terrified it looks like there's so many reasons just in the carburetor alone that I could be experiencing these problems. I have an 81 Tercel with a 3ac engine in it.over the last four days it's been getting steadily weaker every day and I have to turn up the idle screw about 1/3 turn each day just to keep it running. Today it is so weak it almost will not drive I have to rev it quite high just to get moving. It has fresh clean oil it's getting good spark and fuel filter is new and it's not overheating. I'm stumped. It feels extremely heavy in the pedal.

I would install another carb just to rule in or out that it is the carb. I usually have extra carbs on hand for that purpose.

@@robertwalker968 that is a good tip but I don't have an extra carb or the money for one

@@brsrc759 i pick them up where ever i can. sometimes just asking someone who has a dead 2wd or 4wd tercel sitting in their yard. tercels with sideways engines have carbs that will work too.

@@robertwalker968 thank you for the info! I really appreciate your time man. As it sits now, it has degradated to the point of only being able to idle with the pedal all the way to the floor. Out of options right now so I guess I'm going to attempt to dive in and just start taking it apart and cleaning it I don't know what else to do.

My 83 needs the 1 wire solenoid on the primary side and the 2 wire solenoid on the secondary. If they are reversed my throttle will have a dead-response spot as I try to accelerate.

Yup, thats the way its supposed to be

in an attempt to figure out my similar idle issue i traced the direction of vacuum travel through the lines and think the vsv's (one way valves) on the front there where oriented wrong. still wondering if i got the direction of vacuum flow right but if the colour coding is the same then it would appear that yours are also pointing the wrong direction. if my theory is correct, this would cause your egr and throttle positioner to not receive any vacuum. still wondering if i'm right though. also happen to be missing the one referred to simply as Jet valve in the fsm that's on the engine side.

also haven't ran it with them reversed to see what happens as i'm in the middle of taking it apart

looking at the front of my two cars there are three that i can see. the large one has color on driverside, smaller one aboove it has color on driverside and the one at the back of the head for the vac adv the color is also on driverside

If my vacuum routing investigation was correct then the 2 vsv's in front of the carb should work as below I.E. Should be able to blow through the bottom (bigger) one towards the egr (passenger) side. =for Throttle Positioner/TP and Air Suction/AS valves should be able to blow through the top (smaller) one towards the engine (driver) side. =for egr & egr actuator rear connections
