The TS010 is -to this day- the most aerodynamically efficient sports prototype ever designed. Period. Better L/D ratio out of the box than even the Porsche 919 and Audi R18. It was hobbled from the start by significantly lower power than the Peugeot 905, inferior tires and minimal aero development despite being 20% better than the 905 aerodynamically. Consider this: If it had used the available Renault RS5/6 engine and the active suspension/semi-auto gearbox from the Williams FW-15C it could have easily set a sub-3:10 at Le Mans in 1993, faster than the 2017 TS050 lap record. Long live Tony Southgate!

Having lived through Group C from start to finish the 3.5L version of the sport only gives me a cold feeling, even when you can see and hear how spectacular they were. For me it was the nail in the coffin of Group C, probably as intended, as it killed the sport. At its peak we had Mercedes, Jaguar, Lancia, Ford, Aston Martin, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and of course Porsche all running works teams at some point in time and when the 3.5L it became Peugeot, Toyota, Mercedes and Jaguar/Mazda pretty much and none of the privateers could go buy a 962 and be competitive. The best era I have seen in my 52 years, but 3.5L ruined it.

@weatheranddarkness3 жыл бұрын
I think it's because harmonically they are inherently more complex than engines that are multiples of four. It gives v10s a character that isn't just an extrapolation of fewer cylinder, but something entirely unique.
