Overfilling is a good way to foam your oil and blow your seal's! DON'T OVERFILL YOUR DIFF'S!!!

I’m willing to bet that’s the original fluid.

Not a surprise that a previous owner who installed plenty of stupid bling junk like plastic chrome taillight trim, goofy race car gas filler door and junk aftermarket stereo couldn't be bothered to do basic maintenance on this awesome Toyota Tundra with the potential to go 1M miles.... crazy! Thanks , Peter!

Probably the first time that’s ever been done! I did my 2021 4Runner’s front/rear diff and transfer case at 42k miles. I’m at 51k+ now and having my transmission fluid done at the end of the month. Had my oil done again this morning. I can’t do my tranny myself yet as I don’t have a scanner to take temp of the fluid and don’t feel right jumping obdII pins. lol good stuff Petr! God bless~

The oil level leads me to believe that this was filled the vehicle on the ground, with the suspension under pressure. This could explain why oil would drain from the fill/level port when the suspension sags and rotates the differential when on the lift. My LX470 has the AHC, so I perform this service in my driveway with the suspension set to high. I did this after I bought the vehicle and redid ALL my fluids, and after crossing high water in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian when I went down to Fort Myers to help my mom and aunt there.

I took my breather off and replaced with hose and filter, then plumbed it into back cabin on fj cruiser. It was closed with dirt but still made the twist. Don't tryst the twist. Take out and blow to test it

Good idea. I replaced the axle vent when I changed my diff fluid. P/N 90930-A3001. Drain gasket is 12157-10010. But.....YMMV.

Nice! I do a 30k mile interval drain and fill on rear differential, transfer case, and automatic transmission. 2006 Matrix 4WD with 223k.

They made it so simple! I like to shoot some shop air in the fill hole while it is draining.

Lazy mechanics tighten the plugs with an impact wrench. I had to change a leaking outer oil seal on my 2000 Expedition. I forgot to remove the fill plug first, and was just barely able to loosen the filler plug using a piece of pipe on the wrench. The thread was tapered pipe, so they must have figured it could come loose if it wasn't super tight. That synthetic gear oil was expensive. But at least it didn't stink like the natural stuff made from crude oil which smells like sulfur. On the differentials without a drain plug, where you have to remove the entire back to change the oil, or remove the axles to change the oil seals, and you can't get the fill plug out, you can put the correct amount of gear oil inside cheap plastic bags and seal them inside the differential. The gears will chew the thin plastic bags up.

Also if you don't change the differential oil it will chew up the oil seals, as dirty oil causes friction.

Hello, I would like to ask you, is there a catalyst converter in the Toyota 4runner manifold converter? Because my car check code 420, I changed to a new catalyst, but the engine lights, tracoff, 4lo lights will still turn on. And I didn't see the catalyst converter in the tube. It was empty. So may I ask you if there is a catalyst in the tube? Why is mine empty?
