I will be tackling the timing belt on my 2004 Lexus ES330 over the Christmas break. I have the confidence after watching this well-made video. Also thank you for spelling out the best parts to purchase.

This is a superb instructional video. Everything is here: steps-by-strep instructions, tools used, warnings and pitfalls, and clear sharp video. It's just a phenomenal production.

I was going to comment the same, however you've said it perfectly for me. A superb, phenomenal video. Definitely a cut above!

Regarding the backing plate to facilitate the removal of the water pump, I have seen where some "folks" remove the closest 10mm backing plate bolts in the area then use a prybar on the backside to flex the plate a tad. The pump can then be wiggled out. The water pump gasket has a tab on the upperside and this can be snipped off to ease installation with the backing plate in place. I like removing the plate as this will give an idea as to the condition of the cam seals.

Fantastic video. Best one I've seen on KZbin for 3MZ-FE timing belt. Thank you very much!

I know this is simply a minivan, but it represents the pinnacle of the combustion engine. This was made just before lowering production costs, emissions requirements, and engineered obsolescence ended the era of beautifully engineered engines that could last 300k miles with simple but consistent care. The 3.4L 5VZFE in the Tacoma, 4runner, Tundra, and T100 is also a great example of a masterpiece engine that will never be seen again in a production vehicle. Its sad, but our futures lie with cars now built with an engineered 10 year lifespan that will be hard to fight even with alot of new parts trying to keep it alive. There are exceptions, but its a sad truth for most modern vehicles.

Wow! Fantastic video! Best lighting, closeups, and instructions!!! I would never ever in a million years do this job myself but I just was fascinated watching it! Thanks so much. You see, I have this exact engine in my highlander, and it needs valve cover gaskets and plugs but I still don't want to tackle that either. Lol! I subscribed and will be watching your other videos too. Tom

Love great instructional videos, thank you! I don't own a V6 Toyota, but educational videos done right are among the best things on social media! If you get a chance, could you do a pcv valve replacement for the 8th generation Toyota Camry. Engineers decided to put it directly behind the intake manifold and ive yet to see a good educational video on the process.

Thanks for watching and commenting! I’d love to make a video on that if I ever get the chance. I haven’t worked on too many eighth generation Toyota Camry’s. I mean, brakes and routine maintenance yes but not much of anything else. They’re still so new.
@donniev81814 ай бұрын
@@jackhfletcher yeah but I've heard that's it's a good idea to change out your pcv valve or at least clean it every 40k miles. I figure that someone with a 2018 or 2019 would've had to change there's but I've not seen any how to videos on them. Hopefully the 24' Camry I just bought will sound this good once she gets to 200k lol.

207,000 miles on that engine and it sounds as good as it did when it was new!

And it doesn’t burn a drop of oil in between oil changes either! I’m a big fan of the 3MZ-FE engines. They’re really durable.

I have an 06 Sienna and have done the timing belt job myself. To remove the upper torque strut ( dog bone) you dont have to remove the windshield drain pan just to remove that one vertical bolt. Once the bolt is up as much as it can go , simply tilt forcefully to the side and it will come out.

My man! And hero. 😊 That was absolutely fantastic, down to and including sharing the realities of what to do when shote does go as planned (I mean, does it ever?). Looking at buying a high miles '06 Sienna for da wife to replace her 2nd Honda Odie. I don't & won't own or work on anything except Toyo & Honda, but I prefer the Sienna vans (not the Honda trans issues). I'm retired, but the defects mechanic for my 5 daughters & their families, and they thankfully all buy pretty much what I recommend, so lots of Toyota hybrids, & trucks, and Odie vans in the past. Your video, although depressing that it'll probably take me a full day, is all I need to tackle the job now, and for that I am incredibly grateful. Can't wait to check out your other content, where hopefully you can hold my hand thru a new starter on my '05 Tundra V8. 😉 Really excellent effort idiot proofing the job. Now I'm off to see if I can be that better idiot. Thanks again! 😊

Having watched a few videos on the timing belt removal and installation I preemptively bought a new lower bracket should I encounter the issue you had with the two bolts snapping. I got lucky as one bolt came out ok and the other sheared with about an eighth of an inch showing in the lower bracket. For installation , I made sure to lube the bolts up rather well and that the grounding wires are clean and tight to prevent fusing of the dissimilar bolt(steel ) and aluminum bracket ( electrolysis). I also used a drill bit to clean out the bores of the upper mount. It was bad enough that the threaded part of the bolts were a problem but also the corrosion and seemingly fusion of the bolts within the bores.

Best video I've seen on this job...seriously. Great camera work and clear step-by-step explanation, plus you cite the torque settings! I'm working on my 2006 Toyota Highlander 3.3L AWD and ordered an Aisin timing kit which included pulleys, Aisin water pump, tensioner, new seals, and the timing belt, but the belt (part #13568-09080) only has the dotted line with and NO paint marks for the cam sprockets. I'm thinking that if the current belt has marks I can transfer them over to the new belt after removal by matching up the teeth and using a paint pen, but if it doesn't have those cam markings what would you recommend?

Was the water pump also replaced when the timing belt was initially replaced at 90k miles? If not , then that original water pump lasted a long time!

I assume this is the same exact procedure for a 90's Avalon?
@jackhfletcher3 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s almost exactly the same. There may be some minor differences with engine mounts, brackets, and things like that but the engine will be the same.

All '90s avalons have the 1MZ so the engine will be essentially the same
