A common issue on the K engine swaps is the TPS.(throttle position sensor) Try using a B series TPS, that's what has been winning part for the K swap guys I know. After that, the car was dead reliable.

If you're looking for weight in the mr2, why not put the interior back it, it would look way nicer and add weight
@joey_f4ke238
@joey_f4ke238 Жыл бұрын
For a track car that usually would be too much of a hassle, the heavier part are the seats and those can't go back in, door panels and insulation doesn't weigh much at all, hence why stripping a road car is pretty stupid since it won't get faster. The floormat is a potential fire hazard and random panels would make it more cumbersome if they need to access the area for whatever reason.
@theprismaticsystem2833
@theprismaticsystem2833 Жыл бұрын
Metal door cards would add something I suppose, but something like abs, a dry sump, or a surge tank would honestly be better additions then the interior back, especially considering the heavy parts of the interior was the seats, even a bigger fuel cell would probably help more.

To the best of my understanding there are two reasons. 1. Having an Interior can be a fire hazard in racecars and 2. Having the weigh placed low and close to the center is more advantageous that having weight higher up if he put back in his interior

Hey Ben T, On my K series engines, I've had to replace the coilpack pigtail connectors due to the wires cracking internally and causing inconsistencies. You probably won't be able to diagnose it bc the break in the wire can happens on and off (usually stops working due to vibrations in the engine at running speeds). Also another common issue that can occur is the TPS going out with vibrations of aftermarket motor mounts. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about preventing it unless you want to go back to stock motor mounts to soak up the vibrations.

I have been really hesitant about the mr2 build, just because it started out so freaking ratty. But damn I’m starting to really like it. Can’t wait for more to get done with it- my suggestion though, as someone who doesn’t really track (take this as you will) add weight by performance, whatever that may be- ABS, sump, etc. my other suggestion would be obviously corner balance and spread those weights out if you can. There is a lot of weight really low, but also further forward than you sit. Might notice a slight difference if you shift that weight a little. Edit- for the civic, it probably is time for the harness to be replaced, alongside coils, plug wires, and check the ignition switch. Edit 2, again for the mr2, I think adding a dash back in wouldn’t hurt. Add a couple pounds and you’d be surprised how much appearances that you are looking at in the car can build your confidence

From someone who lives in NJ, apparently the reason we can't pump our own gas is bc it "creates jobs" to have people pump our gas for us. Whether it's effective or worth it is up to personal opinion, but every time they vote to change it, it loses the popular vote. Who knows why, but I will say that our gas prices aren't as high as our neighbors so it doesn't seem to raise the prices, and at the end of the day that's really what matters., I will say that it's kind of nice when it's below freezing and you can just vibe in your warm car. Not so nice when they DRIP GAS ONTO THE PAINT. Or forget to tighten the cap and it throws a code.

Seems like it would make way more sense to reduce power (detune and run lower octane gas in the MR2) and reduce the ballasts, then add a big wing. The car is just not as aero as corvettes, so it will never match their top speeds, regardless of power/weight ratio. Better to just double down on what the MR2 is already good at.
@dkis8730
@dkis8730 Жыл бұрын
If power to weight and aero are equal, then the car with more absolute power will be faster, as frictional losses from tires aren't nearly as high of a force as drag is. I believe that was his motivation behind adding weight as opposed to detuning.

Again an idea to both ben`s especially ben since hes gonna take the mr2 back to the dyno. try to get a tune that flattens your hp curve as reasonable as possible since you are limited by peak hp and that defines you power to weight you are better running a slightly lower peak hp because that will translate in a higher power to weight overall. Consider this if for an example you go from 210 to 230 and back in a 2000 rpm band in considering the 0.08hp/lb ratio of gltc it would require you to weight 2875lbs would actually have in average 0.0765 hp/lb/ But if you manage to flatten the curve to 210 to 220 and back it would get you an average power to weight of 0.782lbs/hp and in a racecar that can be the difference between p1 and p10 on such a tight pack
