it would be better with the sump off, but it can be done with sump on, as in this vid.

lock the fly wheel with a flat head screw driver above drive[gap at gear box] then un screw bottom crank pully,bolt ,then pull off, if no come off. fit a puller and remove pully.

On 2004 toyota matrix transmission dipstick is a sticker that says "Under normal driving condition no fluid change needed" Im confused becus my fluid was already dirty dark red color. Help!

+rotcataergeht if its still red it should be ok, if its pinky color the oil is burnt, needs trans oil and filter change.

Hi, I have just replaced a timing chain on this same engine, had all 3 gold links timed with the crank and camshafts correctly. started up engine light appeared with code P1340 camshaft position sensor "A" bank 1 sensor 2 'current' and P1340 camshaft position sensor "A" bank 1 sensor 2 'historical'. car runs good one minute then the next it will be sluggish on accel. Cam sensor is fine as i have tried another and the same code appeared again. any help will be appreciated thanks.

CWS Autobreakers recheck timing, and auto tensioner, if correct remove cam shaft with vvti unit, and steep vvti unit in gasoline for 2 hours,to remove gum. or dirt, the vvti unit is sticking, ond not advancing, throwing up a p1340 code. sounds like a sticky vvti, unit, recheck timing first, check marks on repair manual. good luck.usu only 5w30 oil. on this engine.

by the way i would suspect the lifters if she sounds like a diesel.or worn tensioner.

Great videos and a mine of info.To anyone not familar with timing chains,the coloured links matching the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets and crankshaft cog wheel match up at the beginning,but will not do so again until a100 revs of the crankshaft or more!!!!!!. They do not match up after 6 revs.I ,as a novice,thought this should be the case.I spent days wondering where I had gone wrong when they didnt keep matching up, even though the timing marks were in the right position,eg facing upwards.Hope this will help someone.

yea about 105,000miles,aye it was fairly noisy, maybe not serviced on the due time, or wrong type oil.the 1/2 timing kit solved the problem.

+rotcataergeht on this model the chain was stretched, and making a chitter, diesel sound ,mileage was about 140,000 miles thats why it was changed, usually you can check with a main toyota dealer, for your make/model.

a 2003 toyota vitz, after replacing timing chain,it is runnin perfectly when idle and nuetral but just cuts or st0ps when u engage in either driver o reverse.......what could b tha problm plizzzzz help..asap

have a daihatsu on the lift with a Y3 engine.same as the toy's i see.procedure advised on alldata to take out the motor for timing chain removal.well after watching this, i wonder who alldata is supposed to be talking to?

did not replace the chain.i've worked much on alfa romeo norde engines with chain activated cams.if the chain is not noisy why change it? it is a very,very strong part.the problem is there are no marks on the chain as on the 1.6 toy.so you have to make marks.

Hi Liam Thank you for this video. I have just bought a yaris mk2 1.3vvti (2006) with 80k. I know the correct oil spec is 5w30. Which oil do you think is better for this engine, synthetic or semi-synthetic? What sealant did you use when replacing the timing chain cover? How many hours do you have to allow sealant to harden before refilling engine with engine oil?

+toyo toe fully synthetic, 5w30,the sealant comes with the kit, allow 24 hours for sealant to cure, the longer the better.

+toyo toe you can use lock tite 5699 sealant. its a fairly good one.

So everyone tells me, why timing chain need to be replace? What is the symptoms? I thought timing chain last forever than timing belts. Fyi, I've Toyota Yaris and still running smooth. Thanks for the video tutorial :)

mate my toyota yaris the chain seems to have snapped as I can't start the car no longer do you have any idea if that's affected my whole engine or is it just a case of replacing the chain

Iram Sadiq a broken chain usually , you will have valve to piston damage, fit a new chain, crank over by hand, then do a compression test, to see how if any damage is done.

hi good video i have a yaris 1.3 2sz-fe engine and have replaced the timing chain the chain as 3 gold links together for lining up to the crank pulley which of the 3 links lines up to the dot on the crank pulley your help will be much appreciated thanks mick

The two shortest ones line up at 12 o clock position and the longest one lines up at 7 o clock position with the timing chain fully tightened crank twice by hand the dot on the crank should be at 7 o clock and the dots on the camshaft should be at 12 o clock
