The solution is to abolish CAFE. Engines have become unnecessarily complicated because of CAFE and EPA requirements. GDI, auto-stop-start, turbos, VVT...ETC..ETC...It's a wonder modern engines last as long as they do.

Turbochargers are ok. Superchargers are ok. USING A SMALL DISPLACEMENT MOTOR FOR A HUGE VEHICLE and then using forced induction to try to make them powerful IS NOT OK. What you get is a small engine working harder than it needs to. Reduced life.

It's milling waste still left in the block. That has absolutely zero to do with a turbo. One of the most reliable motors ever built, the 2jz, was a turbo motor.

Its not milling problem its bad desigh milling problem happen in the first 100milles. I am a dealer mechanic and i saw ton of things like that. But that is not a milling problem. Its too much power for tinny main and rod cap, low oil pressure for surface area and too thin oil 0w8 for high power engine its a no no. Toyota will have problem even after the recall.

I've been a Chevy loyalist for my entire life. The one I owned was a GMC Terrain. It was horrible. It suffered from the 2.4L engine oil issue. It ended up blowing up everything except the engine. I traded it in for a Toyota and I am never looking back.

This is not the first engine issue Toyota has had to fix. One thing about Toyota though is they will go above and beyond to make it right. They put head gaskets on the 3.0l for 15 years and desludged or replaced all the 2.4 Camry and other models motors for ever as long as it had one oil change per year.

I like my 2022 Tundra, I use premium fuel, and let the engine warm up and cool down, because it is a Turbo engine. You just can't start a turbo engine up, and just take off before the oil circulate. Good Luck Chuck

Check out the TB on the Mazda 2.5 turbo engine. It’s a design defect with how the turbo attaches to the cylinder head. It cracks and coolant goes into cylinder trashing the engine. No recall yet though thousands of those engines have failed.

Neither Toyota or Honda are the quality-oriented companies that they used to be. My 2020 (built late 2019 in Japan) Toyota was easily the most problematic vehicle that I have owned in 40+ years over 10-11 different new Toyota, Honda & Acura vehicles during that time. Only kept it 2 years & 10K miles due to all the problems/issues it had & then purchased my first Mazda in early 2022 to replace it (which has been great thus far).

I am happy to see Toyota doing the right thing. It is cheaper in the long run; which is not something most automobile companies think about. This will be expensive but Toyota is very profitable. I wait to see what Chrysler will do when they start getting lots of warranty problems with that new hurricane engine. Trying to squeeze north of 500 hp out of an engine that's expected to pull a trailer. It should be very interesting. First they have to sell them though.

How a manufacturer handles a recall is generally more notable than the issue itself. Anything engineered as complex as a vehicle will have problems from time to time.

The reason the hybrids aren't being recalled is that an engine failure in a hybrid still allows you to make it to the side of the road, so no safety issue. Engine is otherwise exactly the same. Sucks to be a hybrid owner. Have to believe that eventually Toyota will exchange their engines as well.

Deburring machining 101, this also is a big reason why many aerospace manufacturers have piles of rejected parts due to deburring. Most machines don't even know how to use a scraper.

Lucky, need to correct you on this. TDI VWs were NEVER garbage. At the time of the emissions recall DUE to overbearing emissions regulations, the values did drop because no one knew what the outcome was going to be. Now they are some of the MOST sought after and hold their value because people do want them, Especially TDI Q7, Touareg and Cayenne.

Everything government touches turns to s#%*!!! I have a 2017 CRV 1.5 turbo with 110,000 miles. I have had 0 issues but I do miss their tried and true 2.4 NA 4 cyl that will last hundreds of thousands of miles Not a Korean car fan but kudos to Kia. They dumped their 1.6 unreliable turbo in the K5 and went back to their NA 2.5, 4 cyl Toyota and Honda should follow their lead !

Yeah hang on, there are other YT channels who in the last month or so posted that Toyota were actually getting dealerships to do rebuilds, shipping short motors. That looked absolutely nightmare, incredibly time consuming, requiring length concentration by the mechanic and something that wouldn't scale based on having to remove the cab before being able to then pull down the engine. So unless this is something different, I'm suspecting Toyota accepted reality NOT that they are willingly doing the right thing from the get go and sending full motor replacements. I wont be gaslighted by this Lucky Lopez fellow in believing Toyota are my friend here and better than other OEMs.

One thing is for sure, Toyota is going to get really good at swapping engines out. That means the whole computer will have to be swapped out as well, I would imagine. The thing about the Koreans is getting an engine swap is like pulling teeth. They try everything to void your warranty and get out of it. Just like Dodge. Is this going to be the same way? And speaking of Dodge, Fortunately for me, I put catch cans on my 2018 Pentastar and we just took pictures at 24,000 miles and the inside of the combustion chambers and valves all look like new, even after they were black. I put a supercharger on it at 9,000 miles and the intake manifolds were already soaked in oil and the piston tops were already coated black. This is how I found out about it. They ruined that engine. Me, actually by voiding my warranty and putting on the supercharger, saved the engine. And also gave me 600 hp while it was at it. And the supercharger and the catch cans cleaned it right up. And a beautiful cross hatch is plainly visible. The rings are doing a really nice job even at 11 to 1 compression. And American cars are junk. GM always has been and now Ford. Yeah, cheap plastic, UNDER THE HOOD HAS DONE THEM IN. There is no excuse for breaking parts just by taking them out. You couldn't give me one of their vehicles today. Any of them!

I think Toyota had no choice but to recall the engines. Metals were found in the engines. You blow an engine which many owners were, Toyota is on the hook for getting the engines replaced.

He learned a lot of car repair from that car. It was a disaster of a car though. My mom had a 1977 Chevy Impala wagon at the time that by comparison got 500,000 miles out of its 350cu inch engine before she got rid of it. Chevy was moving in two different directions at roughly the same time at that point in the 1970's.
