Went to a dealer to look at a used Toyota truck and noticed something interesting. He had a ton of lifted trucks with nice rims. Upon closer inspection though you could tell the lifts were cheap spacer and block lifts, the tires were cheap, and the wheels were flashy. I looked under the lifted toyota we went to look at and he painted over a ton of frame rust. I looked under several others and the same thing, they all had a ton of rust that was painted over. Turned out he was buying cheap rusty northern vehicles and bringing them down south, throwing a cheap lift and set of wheels on them hoping to sell them to unsuspecting southerners.

I only visited it a few times as a child, but one thing he told me is that his sales staff will only ever sell a customer the first car. All other cars will be sold by the way people are treated in service. Now my mother did work there as their accountant, and he would give her a demo car. On more than one occasion she would wake up or come home to find the car missing, her stuff in a pile in the driveway, and a note from my grandfather saying "I sold your car".

I recently purchased a new Volkswagen and it had a rattle in the door and a whistling noise from the sunroof. No big deal, but it was under warranty so I took it to the dealer to have it looked at. They just missed both issues as normal operation. I took the car home and I noticed that the door panel had not been reinstalled correctly. They had broken one of the clips and another was not attached. This is the dealership. They have the tools and the manuals to do this kind of thing right. For me, it was a very cheap and easily fixed reminder of why I started doing the work myself. It's a pain in the ass to do maintenance and repairs yourself, but it's the only way to ensure that they are done right.

12:00 Return of downpayment. The dealership sells you a car at 5.9% for 60 months. You drive off with the car. 5 days later they call you and tell you the financing "fell through" and you need to come back in and sign paperwork for a higher rate. If you try to give back the car, they say it is a used car and will credit you a low value and you owe the balance. If you refuse to sign a higher rate, they repossess the car. Apparently, a contract is a contract only applies to the customer, not the dealer.

They'll take photos of the vehicle in the shade to hide scratches or even dance. So I strictly deal or shop by email. And even then there's still a ton of bs. One question I did not hear, why do these car manufactures think their cars are worth $70.000 when actually they aren't worth $30,000, especially the "American made", which are NOT made here just assembled here by over paid workers.
@EMichaelBall7 ай бұрын
“Worth” is relative. It’s more profitable to the company to charge $70k and sell 300,000 units, then sell 450,000 or even 500,000 units at $30k. Now when the people who buy end up underwater because the industry uses Black Book, and they say that the truck is worth, say, $55,000, that is another matter. Again, “worth” to the customer and the manufacturer (and dealer) is all too often incongruent.

In the past I've been told that a car I test drove suddenly wasn't available and had already been sold, so I would have to pay extra to order one (I overheard the conversation the salesman had with his manager coaching him to lie). I've experienced bait and switch tactics too being told that a promotional model was out of stock and directed to buy a much more expensive + different car. One time I bought a Toyota with a cruise control ordered... the car came without a cruise control and the dealership insisted on selling the car to me that way and pocket the money I paid for it as profit. I've been low balled on trade-ins and I've been assaulted with many additional service and accounting fees. I paid for a car one time, only to discover that the dealership failed to pay the correct sales tax and I had to put an additional thousand dollars on my credit card. I've been burned so many times that I count on being robbed. __ I hate to say this but I am planning on not buying from a dealer ever again -- maybe my next car might be a Tesla or some make that doesn't use dealers or practice thievery.

Back when I was on a budget and couldn't just pay for whatever I wanted, I always felt like I got..got... in some way when I was dealing with the dealer or after the pruchase....no matter what, it was always one or the other. Today, I still try and buy private, just to avoid the SHARADES of a dealership. IMO its easier to deal with a private seller, get an inspection and schedule a shipping trailer. Even if I don't "save" money , being easy is just better. I recently did this with a backdraft Shelby Cobra. Saved over $15,000 compared to dealer pricing I could find and/or negotiate, including shipping, and the deal was done in 3 phone calls, maybe a total of 1 hour talk time and I didn't even leave my house. Seriously, if you go to a dealership, you better have watched some you tube videos and jot down some tips, negotiating strategy, payment strategy, what the typical tricks are...Because if you don't, chances are they will be high faving at your stupidity while your driving way. Unless you deal with Lucky, i feel he would be one of the good ones....

No one needs a salesman to buy a computer, or a shirt online. My revivifier has been buying cars only - for the agreed price - since 2013.
@jeffreycampbell57577 ай бұрын
What is really irksome is when the salesman is not knowledgeable about the car or all of the information from the manufacturer. When I told the salesman that I am a military retiree and therefore I qualify for the military discount he told me that that was only for active military. Wrong! I showed him the manufacturer's website which clearly delineated that the offer goes to military retirees! After that, we got along pretty well and I bought the car!

When I purchased my last vehicle, the process (except for the F&I guy) was pretty painless. Because of some health issues, leg positioning is important and I tell the salespeople up front that I need a minimum of a 20-30 minute test drive to make sure my right leg isn't cramping. The sales guy was most understanding and took us on various city streets and a couple of area highways so I could get a good feel for the vehicle. When we got back to the store, I said I'm ready to make a decision and need the pricing. they were very straightforward on the pricing. The sales guy even asked why I wanted that trim level and I told him why. The F&I guy was helpful with a good finance rate, which was better than I had been able to get. The only negative with him was the pressure tactic of telling me that the extended warranty was only available at the time of the sale, which is not true (I purchased the extended warranty package from another dealer just before the 3/36 expired at a very competitive rate).

I had to buy a car a few months ago to replace one that I had mechanically totaled and my big annoyance was having to fight to get the car down to MSRP through all the stupid port and dealer installed options I didn’t ask for. My problem was that I wanted a Toyota and their day supply doesn’t leave a lot of room for negotiation. I probably could have worked the price down to under MSRP but I gave in and took what I thought was at least a fair price given that I still had to wait to get a car off the next truck.

I just bought a new car last year. The salesman was good. He was up front and honest. When I spoke with the financing guy I found a whole bunch of things were added on the contract that I did not want. I spent the time looking through the contract and asking questions. Here is an example. I found in the contract that I would have to pay an extra $500.00 for nitrogen in my tires. I said no way. I said take it out. They removed the charge and I still had nitrogen in my tires. In fact, when I go to the dealership to have my car serviced they put nitrogen in my tires. I do not pay extra for that. I find that interesting. Thoughts?

Air is > 78% Nitrogen. They ain’t lying. They take advantage of the fact that Americans don’t have Science in school curricula - especially private schools.

My girlfriend had decided to trade in her 2014 Jeep Compass for a Corolla. We went to 2 local dealerships. The one selected had the right color, was a hatchback and an SE trim. They sold her the car for almost $1K below MSRP and is crediting her $3K for the Jeep. It has over 130Kmi and a HVAC actuator that's clicking loudly. The only extras on the SE were those useless locks, all weather mats and mudguards. She's paying in cash. So the deal was fairly straight forward. The only issue so far is waiting for it to be built. But, otherwise, a relatively fast and straight forward deal. Not borrowing makes it so much easier...if one can do it....

Not, sure I agree with the colonoscopy 🤔 Unless you use a dealership's restroom when you prep. Step 1. Mix a full container of MiraLAX with your favorite beverage, yum. Step 2. Tight cheek yourself down to your favorite dealership, avoid potholes. Step 3. Use their restroom, perhaps you can flush those mark ups away. Just explain to them you get this way when have a bad deal, I mean meal 😁

When I first heard that Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealerships were getting their allocations for Trackhawks. I took my checkbook and went to a dealer called East Hills Jeep Dodge in Roslyn, New York. I asked the sales manager about the car and he immediately told me that there would be a $30,000 markup. I laughed and I told him thanks but no thanks. I left. Then I went to another dealer: major Chrysler on Northern Boulevard and they told me that they would do the allocation for $5000. I told him I’m not paying over sticker. We parted ways. When the trackhawk was released at $100,000 no one bought them immediately and they sat on the lot for close to a year. That’s when I started making fun of the dealerships, walking through lots and making videos which I entitled “count the Trackhawks”. I am so thankful that I didn’t go ahead and buy one of those trucks to replace my 2015 Jeep SRT. As you know Covid came and wrecked the housing economy, but I was fortunate because I had enough saved cash and high enough credit to simply buy a house in 2018 before the market flipped here in New York. Now I sit on multiple properties and I look at that trackhawk like it’s a failed project.

Had a dealership advertise a price online that was low but when I got to the dealership I found out the price was with ever incentive and rebate but this wasn't stated on the site. The salesman was writing everything on a piece of paper with a huge sharpie and it looked like chicken scratch. Made it to the finance office but it was getting late so we left a deposit and said we'd come back the next day to sign everything. Got home and we discussed it and agreed it seemed shady. I called the finance manager and told him I wanted deposit back and changed my mind. Guy got mad kept arguing and just told him to shut up give me the money back or I'm getting a lawyer.

In order to have a good dealership experience you have to control the sale. Dealerships are designed in a way to remove the control of the sale from the customer. You have to understand the set up and you have to take that control back. When I go into a dealership, I have an 850 credit score so I already know that they can’t give me anything less than the prime rate. I refuse to pay over sticker. I walk into the dealer with my checkbook and a specific amount of money that I’m willing to use as a down payment. I do not go over the amount that I specified. If the dealer can’t do things my way, then we shake hands and I leave. But I guarantee you: once a dealer sees you with a $10,000 check in their hand all of a sudden they will bend the laws of physics to ensure that you don’t walk out of that dealership. Ask the Mercedes dealer who followed me to my car as I was leaving after I test drove one of their cars. Ask all the salesman who tried to sell me dealer installed extras, which I refused to pay for, but they ended up having to relent and sell me the vehicle with those add-ons at no extra cost. The car I bought was a Cadillac Lyriq. $5000 GM rebate. $7500 government tax credit. $5000 worth of EVgo charging credits - free charging for two years. Either you bow to my demands or I walk out of here and go across the street to BMW or Mercedes. You see this check? It goes bye-bye. Wrong And then you have to walk over to your sales manager and tell him what happened. You have to tell your sales manager why a $10,000 check walked out of that dealership and didn’t come back. So what’s it gonna be?

2:06 when I’m serious about buying a car I let them go right ahead and run my credit score. When they see that 850 come back they are pretty much putty in my hands. Then they noticed the fact I have my checkbook in hand, and they suddenly become very accommodating. Just having the high credit score is enough to rattle them, but I feel that the checkbook with the pen ready to sign is the magic wand to make the deals that I want to happen.

The WORST dealership experience I ever had was at Mercedes Benz of Chandler in AZ in 2018. I wasn’t trading in a car. I had gotten pre approved with my credit union for the full price of the car as I had gotten final numbers from the dealer the day prior. My credit union contacted head of finance and said hey we are overnighting a check for the total cost of the car and here’s check images and tracking. Mercedes Benz of Chandler wanted to hold the check and the car for 14 days to make sure the check wouldn’t cancel or bounce. My credit unions head of auto loans called the head of finance and told them no we won’t cancel the check. Please let her pick up her car tomorrow after you receive the check. Long story short. Mercedes refused and the sales man harassed me and my parents and said I’d never find another car anywhere else. This was in 2018. I went to Carvana got a car did my loan there and had a Mercedes off lease with 30k miles on it and another year of factory warranty. Had that car for nearly 7 years until it got hit by a red light runner. I bought my second car also from Carvana and recently upgraded with CarMax. Will never buy from a dealer again.

I’ve heard of dealers that sign a contract with a customer that they realize after the fact is advantageous to the customer, and attempt to force the customer to sign a new contract. Far too many people in this position don’t know that such pressure is baseless. They don’t need to do anything. A signed contract is fully valid, even if the dealer missed a detail that cost them a few grand, or more.

I personally negative experience with buying car only once. We went to see a new Jeep and were going to trade in my old Jeep. I kinda had fair purchase and trade in numbers in my head based on research I did and advertised priced was even lower than that so I was ready for some “fees” on top. Salesman started with number waaaaay over that and trade in number was waaaay lower. Negotiations took too long, I wanted to walk away already and they pulled “mechanic still looking at yours” trick, “went to see manager” 3 times, etc and finally he got to fair numbers but at that time all I wanted to do is get out and never buy another car ever again. Which I did. I bought my new Jeep 2 years later without all that circus in other place for price I considered fair. Old Jeep went to my son who took it to college. They did give me low trade in value on my old other old car which was expected so I just kept it as spare car. All other purchases with dealers before that one were always easy.

I agree that people jump on the lowest advertised price, not the total $ you have to pay. The $149 hotel room does not include the mandatory $39 "resort fee." SeaWorld has prices in the gift shops + an additional 5%, so the $25 stuffed orca is not really $25. I always think less of businesses that pull this nonsense.
