I had a dealer do that "lost the key" trick. After an hour of him dicking me around with the price and REFUSE to give me my car back, I jumped on the counter and started SCREAMING to the customers in the showroom. I told the what was going on at the TOP of my voice. The sales mgr came out with my keys and threw them out the door and said "get out" I got off the counter and politely said "thank you" and left.. Dealerships have been so dirty for so long that everybody knows it. As a result they are widely despised. And then dealerships wonder why doesn't anybody like us? I had a Kia Salesman come out of the Managers office and hand me a quote where they tried add $9k to the lease buyout on a Stinger. After telling him that I contacted Kia Corporate before coming in to confirm I was entitled to buy the car at the contracted residual he began arguing with me. So I started to put the quote in the folder I had with the paperwork and told him that I was going to show it to Kia Corporate. Then he actually grabbed my arm and tried to pull the quote out of my hand. I was 63 at the time and I'm partially paralyzed and wear leg braces that were visible with my shorts on. He was about 35, healthy and bigger than me. So my wife starts screaming as we are having a tug of war over the quote that he eventually won. I went to another Kia dealer and they honored the residual with no questions asked.

My grandfather owned an AMC/Jeep dealership in the 1970s through 1990s. I only visited it a few times as a child, but one thing he told me is that his sales staff will only ever sell a customer the first car. All other cars will be sold by the way people are treated in service. Now my mother did work there as their accountant, and he would give her a demo car. On more than one occasion she would wake up or come home to find the car missing, her stuff in a pile in the driveway, and a note from my grandfather saying "I sold your car".

Everybody’s throwing around money and not just the bitcoin Bros, all the restaurants suck all the delis are closing, and all the diners are closing and they just replacing them with McDonald’s. They could just serve you crap and the people still buy it, it’s amazing. So businesses don’t have to be good, they’re making their money anyway, until the inevitable recession and they’re all gonna go out of business and a few good businesses will survive and then the cycle starts all over again

YET..... the drive through is always backed up onto the street around my area. Only the drivethrough..... as Americans we have gotten so lazy that most cant even be bothered to get out of there cars, but that is a different topic. What Im saying is that people are still buying. I could put a Turd on a plate, put the starbucks name on it, charge $10, and people would buy it. One question I did not hear, why do these car manufactures think their cars are worth $70.000 when actually they aren't worth $30,000, especially the "American made", which are NOT made here just assembled here by over paid workers.
@EMichaelBall
@EMichaelBall 14 күн бұрын
“Worth” is relative. It’s more profitable to the company to charge $70k and sell 300,000 units, then sell 450,000 or even 500,000 units at $30k. Now when the people who buy end up underwater because the industry uses Black Book, and they say that the truck is worth, say, $55,000, that is another matter. Again, “worth” to the customer and the manufacturer (and dealer) is all too often incongruent.

12:00 Return of downpayment. The dealership sells you a car at 5.9% for 60 months. You drive off with the car. 5 days later they call you and tell you the financing "fell through" and you need to come back in and sign paperwork for a higher rate. If you try to give back the car, they say it is a used car and will credit you a low value and you owe the balance. If you refuse to sign a higher rate, they repossess the car. Apparently, a contract is a contract only applies to the customer, not the dealer.

Thank you! This is an outstanding video and I literally took notes as I'm in the process of buying a used minivan. Everything you said is true. I've been shopping for a minivan for some time now, strictly by email to avoid the BS talking to them on the phone or driving to their dealership and getting burned when the vehicle that I was looking for suddenly got sold. Yeah that happened to me. And I drove 3 hours round trip to find that one out. I've learned a lot about how dealers present their cars and advertising and how crooked they are with their photos. They'll take photos of the vehicle in the shade to hide scratches or even dance. So I strictly deal or shop by email. And even then there's still a ton of bs. I asked the dealership by email to send me a link to the minivan and the Carfax in the same email thread. Nine times out of 10 they refuse or ignore my simple request. It's so GD annoying and frustrating to deal with all of these crooked dealerships.

I love negotiating, so dealerships are fun for me. Every new car I've bought I got for around invoice, with no addons I didn't want. I'm no nonsense, they pickup on that, and rarely have issues. The couple times I sensed anything weird, I immediately leave. I don't have time for BS. Also, I hate direct sales, since you can't work the deals. If you know how to talk to people, you'll always get a good deal.

In one of my greatest hits: I went with my girlfriend to pick up an Acura TL that she wanted to buy. The dealer had the car outside being washed, and it was sitting right in front of the glass window of the sales office, running - waiting for her to sign the papers to take it away. The sales person showed us the numbers, they were higher than what she believed she negotiated because they claim that her credit score was too low for the numbers that they had negotiated. I immediately got up and told the dealer I’m gonna go outside and turn the car off because you’re wasting gas. Sure enough: we left without signing and didn’t take the car.

(1) The cost. I got my used 2011 Fusion a couple of years back for $5K through a private seller. Same year, similar mileage at a dealership: $8K. (2) Giving me the price in 'payments' instead of the overall price. (3) In general, all of the BS you go through: Upselling, throwing a barrage of numbers, 'extended warranty', 'I lost your keys', the ridiculous fees. (4) Pushing me towards loans from your in-house financing is shady as f. (5) Maintenance out of warranty has been (in my experience) at least 30% higher at a dealership than through an independent mechanic. And usually the mechanic is a lot more knowledgeable and does a better job. I don't care that you have to make money. If the deal is this crappy for me, I'm never setting foot in a stealership.

I used to love browsing dealerships in my early twenties. It was the casual test driving I enjoyed the most. To be fair, I never asked to test drive a car, they always offered every time. And I was always up front by saying, "I promised my wife that I'm not buying a car today. We have five different places on my list and yours is my second stop. She's at work today." Of course they often applied some pressure, but a smile and a "I can't today, but thank you for the great service" is easy to do. Politeness goes a long way.

They just missed both issues as normal operation. I took the car home and I noticed that the door panel had not been reinstalled correctly. They had broken one of the clips and another was not attached. This is the dealership. They have the tools and the manuals to do this kind of thing right. For me, it was a very cheap and easily fixed reminder of why I started doing the work myself. It's a pain in the ass to do maintenance and repairs yourself, but it's the only way to ensure that they are done right.

My girlfriend had decided to trade in her 2014 Jeep Compass for a Corolla. We went to 2 local dealerships. The one selected had the right color, was a hatchback and an SE trim. They sold her the car for almost $1K below MSRP and is crediting her $3K for the Jeep. It has over 130Kmi and a HVAC actuator that's clicking loudly. The only extras on the SE were those useless locks, all weather mats and mudguards. She's paying in cash. So the deal was fairly straight forward. The only issue so far is waiting for it to be built. But, otherwise, a relatively fast and straight forward deal. Not borrowing makes it so much easier...if one can do it....

I avoid dealerships like a plaque. The best deal I got was thru my credit union. I told them what I wanted and they did the work. I agreed over the phone and went to the bank to pick up my brand new car. I signed the paperwork in less than 30 minutes and I was out of there. I did not have to deal with the back and forth sales and bought a brand new car for well under msrp.

I had to buy a car a few months ago to replace one that I had mechanically totaled and my big annoyance was having to fight to get the car down to MSRP through all the stupid port and dealer installed options I didn’t ask for. My problem was that I wanted a Toyota and their day supply doesn’t leave a lot of room for negotiation. I probably could have worked the price down to under MSRP but I gave in and took what I thought was at least a fair price given that I still had to wait to get a car off the next truck.

I submitted a reservation online to a local dealer for service to be done a few days later. The next day someone from the dealer left a vm saying they had some questions about my vehicle. When I purchased my last vehicle, the process (except for the F&I guy) was pretty painless. Because of some health issues, leg positioning is important and I tell the salespeople up front that I need a minimum of a 20-30 minute test drive to make sure my right leg isn't cramping. The sales guy was most understanding and took us on various city streets and a couple of area highways so I could get a good feel for the vehicle. When we got back to the store, I said I'm ready to make a decision and need the pricing. they were very straightforward on the pricing. The sales guy even asked why I wanted that trim level and I told him why. The F&I guy was helpful with a good finance rate, which was better than I had been able to get. The only negative with him was the pressure tactic of telling me that the extended warranty was only available at the time of the sale, which is not true (I purchased the extended warranty package from another dealer just before the 3/36 expired at a very competitive rate).

I bought a new ford ranger back in 2004, owner of the dealership was friend with my boss so figured i was being taken care of. I didn’t really read the contract, learned that was stupid, they gave me verbal that i was supposed to get 2.9apr and ended up getting 15%apr. didn’t notice til a bit later, my fault of course for not reading it. But for the little they made off me off a 12k truck I detoured so many friends and family from that dealership and then bought a new f150 at a different dealership.

I agree that people jump on the lowest advertised price, not the total $ you have to pay. The $149 hotel room does not include the mandatory $39 "resort fee." SeaWorld has prices in the gift shops + an additional 5%, so the $25 stuffed orca is not really $25. I always think less of businesses that pull this nonsense.

Experiences can also vary wildly at the same dealership depending on which salesman you get. I had a great experience at the same dealership I had walked out of three weeks earlier. I wouldn't have gone back but a couple of good friends told me to ask for a specific guy. When I was in his office he told me that I seemed like the type of person that didn't care about the payments but only wanted to see the bottom line on the total price. He was right and I could tell why he had salesman of the year plaques for 18 of the last 20 years. He did send me cards and occasional messages for a few years. If I needed another car I would've gone to him first. He has to be retired by now.

One piece of advice is to check your state allowance laws on different items when buying a car IE; Gap insurance, doc fees, and a myriad of other fees they will try to scam you on. Never pay for that little trick car dealerships have figured out about alleged theft prevention. Every single car they bring onto their lot is etched with a little emblem into all of your side windows that they claim you will be able to track your car with. You can ask any cop and they will all tell you it's bunk and the dealerships will charge you a ridiculous charge for it. QUESTION EVERYTHING. Most car dealers are as crooked as politicians. Read the contract before you sign anything.

What is really irksome is when the salesman is not knowledgeable about the car or all of the information from the manufacturer. When I told the salesman that I am a military retiree and therefore I qualify for the military discount he told me that that was only for active military. Wrong! I showed him the manufacturer's website which clearly delineated that the offer goes to military retirees! After that, we got along pretty well and I bought the car!

🔥 @Lucky As one who spent paper in the box, I can tell you honestly that even when I tried to do right by the customer, they don’t care. They buy with their heart instead of their head. Make a bad decision that I tried to nudge them against, but they ALWAYS had to have a fully loaded rig with all the bells and whistles. Then they cry foul when the newness wears off and they’re left with a big payment for 72/84 months and will scream to the heavens that I or our dealership screwed them over. There’s nothing wrong with an SXT but they have to have a wide body Scat Pack. People can hate me for saying this but Mopar owners are the worst when it comes to this. 🔥

I live in the Minneapolis area. Cars and car prices are a bit of a hobby to me. I have been watching many KZbin folks commenting on how prices are dropping and how better deals are here or coming soon based on what the wholesale/auctions are doing lately. Well - I am not seeing that. In this area there are 2-3 HUGE companies that own anywhere from 30-40 dealerships in the Twin City area. Seems to me they monopolize prices and have worked to keep prices high. Yes there are some deals here and there, but from what I see their prices are still flying high.

Two of the Hyundai dealers here in Las Vegas are typically advertising very low prices but have 2000+ recon fees. While I was learning this, I went down, they brought the car out and it really looked like shit. Not only are you buying a nasty looking car, not knowing the true condition, but you cant take it home that day since their service/cleaning bay was so busy. This was near the end of the Pandemic, but I still see them advertising slightly lower than the rest so they prob still have this ploy in effect in some way.

Had a dealership advertise a price online that was low but when I got to the dealership I found out the price was with ever incentive and rebate but this wasn't stated on the site. The salesman was writing everything on a piece of paper with a huge sharpie and it looked like chicken scratch. Made it to the finance office but it was getting late so we left a deposit and said we'd come back the next day to sign everything. Got home and we discussed it and agreed it seemed shady. I called the finance manager and told him I wanted deposit back and changed my mind. Guy got mad kept arguing and just told him to shut up give me the money back or I'm getting a lawyer.

In order to have a good dealership experience you have to control the sale. Dealerships are designed in a way to remove the control of the sale from the customer. You have to understand the set up and you have to take that control back. When I go into a dealership, I have an 850 credit score so I already know that they can’t give me anything less than the prime rate. I refuse to pay over sticker. I walk into the dealer with my checkbook and a specific amount of money that I’m willing to use as a down payment. I do not go over the amount that I specified. If the dealer can’t do things my way, then we shake hands and I leave. But I guarantee you: once a dealer sees you with a $10,000 check in their hand all of a sudden they will bend the laws of physics to ensure that you don’t walk out of that dealership. Ask the Mercedes dealer who followed me to my car as I was leaving after I test drove one of their cars. Ask all the salesman who tried to sell me dealer installed extras, which I refused to pay for, but they ended up having to relent and sell me the vehicle with those add-ons at no extra cost. The car I bought was a Cadillac Lyriq. $5000 GM rebate. $7500 government tax credit. $5000 worth of EVgo charging credits - free charging for two years. Either you bow to my demands or I walk out of here and go across the street to BMW or Mercedes. You see this check? It goes bye-bye. Wrong And then you have to walk over to your sales manager and tell him what happened. You have to tell your sales manager why a $10,000 check walked out of that dealership and didn’t come back. So what’s it gonna be?

I see both sides of buying and selling cars. still now as a consumer it's hard to trust what goes on with final pricing knowing there are "hold backs" and still more wiggle room on pricing. either way they still need to make a profit and thats fair too.

When I first heard that Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealerships were getting their allocations for Trackhawks. I took my checkbook and went to a dealer called East Hills Jeep Dodge in Roslyn, New York. I asked the sales manager about the car and he immediately told me that there would be a $30,000 markup. I laughed and I told him thanks but no thanks. I left. Then I went to another dealer: major Chrysler on Northern Boulevard and they told me that they would do the allocation for $5000. I told him I’m not paying over sticker. We parted ways. When the trackhawk was released at $100,000 no one bought them immediately and they sat on the lot for close to a year. That’s when I started making fun of the dealerships, walking through lots and making videos which I entitled “count the Trackhawks”. I am so thankful that I didn’t go ahead and buy one of those trucks to replace my 2015 Jeep SRT. As you know Covid came and wrecked the housing economy, but I was fortunate because I had enough saved cash and high enough credit to simply buy a house in 2018 before the market flipped here in New York. Now I sit on multiple properties and I look at that trackhawk like it’s a failed project.

I just bought a new car last year. The salesman was good. He was up front and honest. When I spoke with the financing guy I found a whole bunch of things were added on the contract that I did not want. I spent the time looking through the contract and asking questions. Here is an example. I found in the contract that I would have to pay an extra $500.00 for nitrogen in my tires. I said no way. I said take it out. They removed the charge and I still had nitrogen in my tires. In fact, when I go to the dealership to have my car serviced they put nitrogen in my tires. I do not pay extra for that. I find that interesting. Thoughts?
