I didn't like the looks when I first saw it but I took one for a test drive and bought one. I agree with all your comments about this car, you're review is spot on. What a nice car. The looks are starting to grow on me as I start to appercieate how special this car is. I'm getting 69.4mpg just driving normally to work and back. I now can't imagine commuting to work in anything else. I'm a lazy driver, and the Yaris Cross almost drives its self. What a fabulous bit of engineering! I looked at lots of reviews for this car before buying and they're all positive and a great review from yourself, thanks. I'll add that I'm finding the dealer prices have dropped since you posted this video. Eveyone watching this, should go and check for the current pricing information. You might be as surprised as I was when you compare with the competition.

Good review of what looks to be a great little car. You've avoided the mistake that other reviewers have made of referring to the CVT as being a belt drive, when it is in fact an eCVT using planetary gears. You have, however, repeated their error of referring to B mode as brake regen, whereas on Toyotas the B mode is only used to provide engine braking on steep downhill runs (thus avoiding potential brake fade).
@phil29272 ай бұрын
Yes but B mode can also be used as a more aggressive regen mode.

Yes I love them. I am buying one in Australia, but we have a 5 to 6 month wait here, but I'm told mine is "scheduled for production" so I'm excited.. We don't have your beautiful green colour, but I had to put up with Latte/Ink Black roof ... life's tough lol. Just to let you know that at least in Australia, you have the option of an AWD version where they put an additional motor/generator in the back, but you do lose the space saver tyre and the fuel consumption is worse. I live in Brisbane so no need for AWD, but on icy roads this may be a consideration. I love this car, and have bought the "Urban" spec (specs differ between countries) where I get the built in maps, active cruise control and ...... heads up display (a projector built into the dash that projects an image of the Speedo and the speed limit onto the bottom part of the drivers windscreen) Bourgeois bliss lol

It has extras like dash cam, the boot protector, and weather shields, plus the nano coating with a lifetime guarantee on the duco, plus tinting on all windows. I paid $49k. It's also AWD, has a heads-up display, lane correction, accident avoidance, among other things, and the colour is Atomic Rush, which is a deep red with a black roof. I'm still learning all the things it can do, and that seems never ending. I can use a dial for driving on a rugged trail or in the snow. I could go on and on.

In winter I will leave it in ready mode on the drive for an hour to self charge. I am lucky to live where I have a secure driveway. Over 100mpg has been possible on some trips, over 50 percent electric. Using the My Toyota app is interesting to check mpg etc. about 68mpg in total driving which is great. Overall I can't fault it for it's economy. Pity Toyota did not put a better/bigger ah 12v battery in it.

Why do reviewers always test the top-spec cars, which most people DON'T buy?
@houseofcars197322 күн бұрын
This is an interesting point I address over on my other channel AutoEV. I’ve recently reviewed the basic Kia EV3 Air over there and explain that many manufacturers always run the top of the range models on their press fleets to show the car in its best light (nice alloys, expensive and luxurious interior, lots of options, etc) so we as reviewers don’t often have the choice. We request a car and we get the spec they send us. Some often run a variation of the model showing different trim levels (Kia is my example on AutoEV) but we can only review what a manufacturer has on their fleet. Hope that helps explain the reason (ie, it’s not our fault!) but it is a point well made, and I will endeavour where I can to feature a variety. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

I don't have the Yaris but do have a 2019 RAV4 hybrid. Have had it for a year and a half. I only do short journeys - typically about 10-15 miles a day and the 12v battery definitely does not get enough charge put back into it, particularly in the winter when the electrical loads such as heated seats, steering wheel, rear window heater etc are used a lot. I also have dogs and the electric tailgate is used a lot. There are lots of complaints online about Toyota hybrid cars having flat 12v batteries. So I got a battery bluetooth monitor and wired in a CTEK plug to the battery in the boot so I can monitor the voltage and recharge the 12v battery easily. My battery needs a boost about every week in winter, every 10-14 days in summer. I also carry a 12v jumper battery pack - keep it easily available under a front seat or glovebox and not in the boot. If you do short journeys and don't have a driveway or garage where you can recharge the 12v battery I would advise to think twice about a Toyota hybrid.

Does anybody know if two adults and one baby seat can fit in the back row? I reckon it's going to be tight, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried that?

Very tempted to swap my 2015 ford focus diesel which is £0 road tax for one of these as I don’t do the miles now since covid. Has anyone drove the 115 and 130 bhp version, if so was there much diff? Also the excel doesn’t get the 130bhp engine
@sorinmiliescu5 ай бұрын
Tried both yesterday, the 130 is a tad faster to pick-up speed, but by a tad I mean a quarter of a second. In my opinion it is not worth the extra cost

I’m currently driving a 73 plate Corolla (Design trim) which is my third Corolla , out of 7 or 8 Toyotas . I will be looking carefully at this new Yaris Cross for my next vehicle. Excellent review.

I have the same model, same year 2024, brand new from factory. Though with the one with 116HP. I genuinely dont think its worth 3000 euros extra for just that 14hp extra / 0,5 seconds faster accel + "sound dampening". 3000 euros is a lot btw.... I got mine called "Style edition" for only 26k euros. Paying by month, it costs me only 150 euros. I think thats a bargain. Not either a fan of this new Khaki color. I bought the silver shimmering color which I think looks excellent. But to each his own I guess. Though 130Hp and sound dampening is NOT worth 30k euros extra! And I honestly DONT understand all the complaints about Noise. WHICH NOISE?!? SERIOUSLY. You guys gone soft, really. Back in the days with manual cars, you are actually supposed to listen to the engine when shifting gears. You know what i think? People / you guys are getting spoiled!

Toyota have a brand new all electric model coming out next year to replace or sit alongside this car, it looks very different too though. They seem to have several new all electric cars coming out, not that the Western governments have given them much choice.

If a battery died, can I power up the car and can I drive a car?
@houseofcars19736 ай бұрын
As in the hybrid battery? Yes, you can still drive it if there is no power in the hybrid battery. It’s a petrol engine that drives the wheels.
@gasmaska6 ай бұрын
@houseofcars1973 - thank you. So, after e.g. 10 years of battery warranty battery dies, I can only drive on petrol (power up and drive a car)?
@houseofcars19736 ай бұрын
@@gasmaska It would be difficult to thinking the battery still not working after 10 years. Many examples of fully electric vehicles still working as well as when they were new after 10 years and many thousands of miles.
@richardshiggins7045 ай бұрын
Note it is not the hybrid battery that has died but rather the ignition start 12V battery . If this dies the car will not go and will need to be recharged . Herein lies the problem with the Yaris battery which I feel would need to be addressed by Toyota .

The price difference between the lower and higher hp cars isn't worth it. If it was a thousand or two I'd probably go with the stronger engine....but it's a lot more than that.
