Correction about the gear B: It's not for regeneration, but for long downhills (mountains). It uses the petrol engine for braking in that gear, in order to prevent the battery from becoming fully charged. Full battery can lead to overheating of friction brakes on extremely long downhills, as regenerative braking will no longer be possible.
@HepauDK3 жыл бұрын
11:34 What B-mode really does, is maximize the usage of the large MG2 electric motor for braking, and also uses the petrol engine for engine braking. The way it does that, is using the smaller MG1 electric motor to spin up the petrol engine to fairly high rpm's to utilize the engines compression to slow down the car to avoid brake fade on long steep inclines. Since MG1 uses a fair bit of electron juice to spin the engine, the net gain is negative, so no, you can't use it to charge the battery!

In germany the Corolla Hybrid 1.8 Liter costs about 28.580,00 € (the 2,0 Liter 30580 €) without discount and the Yaris Hybrid 1.5 Liter 22990 € (Club Edition) and both the Corolla and the Yaris Listprices (not Leasing) are taken both out of an Edition Level I would call the exact middle edition in a ranking of 7 different Editions for both cars. The length of the Corolla is just 43 cm aka 16,9291 inches longer and when you think about that the sitting space on the backseat of the Corolla is so poor in legspace and hight in headspace to the space you have in the "smaller" Yaris it makes me my just shake ones head. And the car boot space has only 47 Liters more in the Corolla. So all in all with a price difference of almost 5600 Euro ( 8.619,39 australian dollars) I can "at least" for the selling market in germany not complain about paying too much for a Toyota Yaris in Comparison to a Corolla. @@rjvincent8682 Except this is an Australian review, mainly for the Australian market. That factor is not in our consideration but rather the fact a hatchback with far less boot space, rear legroom, interior quality, highway performance and NVH costs only $1.5k less than a Corolla ($27k vs $28.5k) that does much better in all those regards, is probably the reason why I have seen none of these on our roads and a ton of Corollas. The value isn't there. Given a greater amount of highway driving done in Australia compared to tight city streets in Europe, and far cheaper petrol in comparison, the Corolla is a better value. Small/compact cars (and now SUVs) have only just been the norm for the past decade or so due to being a middle ground between a traditional large sedan like a Camry and a city hatchback from a class below like the Yaris. The only thing drawing people to the Yaris, which was otherwise quite a weak car for anyhting but light city duties, was it was the cheapest way to get into a brand new Toyota under $20k while a Corolla was at $27k. Evidently as city car prices jump, they lose the one aspect that made them tolerable to many and Australians have snubbed these for more capable and better value alternatives.

As for the Hybrid model, bit disappointing that for all that money, there's not a lot of 'creature' comforts thrown in (i.e. electric seats) or upgraded tech (i.e. screen size), etc. They must have spent a bit on the hybrid tech to skimp out everywhere else I guess. I am in the same position but would be out of my mind to get a puny Yaris for $27k when a Corolla is $28k. It's just plain better value and I buy cars with the future in mind, the boot and passenger space of the Yaris is untenable for a trip with friends and a boot full of luggage, let alone for when you're not so single or have a kid, or simply in the NVH and acceleration outside of city driving. For the money you reach the limits of the Yaris very quickly, a Corolla is a sound investment.

Well, as of Nov-Dec 2022, the waiting list for Yaris ZR hatchback hybrid (as for all other Toyota hybrids) is now >12-18 months, and this is just Toyota guess! It could well be longer and not likely to get shorter before middle of 2024 or later. The whole Toyota range prices will go up again in 2023 and again in 2024. If you don't like the 2022 price, it won't get any better, consider to shop for another car brand. I tested the pure petrol Yaris, not hybrid, this week and the pure petrol Yaris is NOT worth buying at all. It was noisy, unrefined and utterly gutless at low suburban speeds of 0-80kmh. We have spent 6 weeks in Europe in 2022 and other there in Italy, France and Greece almost every Toyota under 10 yeas old is a petrol-hybrid. And there are a huge number of Toyota petrol-hybrids in Europe now. Virtually no pure petrol on the roads, it may be that they are not even sold there. Having driven a pure petrol Yaris now, I am not surprised. Hybrid Toyota is vastly better to drive than a petrol Toyota, IMO. I tried to get a deal on hybrid-Yaris and I got nowhere. Which is what I expected, really. BTW Corolla hybrid waiting list is even longer than Yaris hatch hybrid and Corolla price goes up further in 2023 so the price gap will widen.

Why don't you ever show under the bonnet on your reviews?
@HepauDK3 жыл бұрын
There isn't much to see. The top of a 3 cyl. petrol engine, a large control module for the hybrid system and various fluid containers. That is basically what is visible from above.

Alot of goodies for that little car, how stable is it at 70 to 75 mph?

@10:50 Who can explain this to me. 3.3/100km = 73.1 U.S mpg. There are 1.2 US gallons to an Imperial gallon. Thats 87.79 MPG to the Queen. Toyota UK list the MPG as 57.6 to 68.8. That's a big difference. Who can tell me why seemingly the same car has more MPG?
@jessedanielryder2 жыл бұрын
depends on the tuning and the accessories they add on, and the type of roads etc etc. Aus cars are more fuel efficient than american counterparts for most vehicles

Is this a rebadged Mazda 2?
@denero47354 жыл бұрын
How do I hit the 'dislike' comment for this question?
@alfreddeneumann4 жыл бұрын
@@denero4735 It was tongue in cheek. No need to dislike...the answer is no. The Yaris in the USA and Canada was a rebadged Mazda two and was discontinued in 2020. This new Yaris (XP210) is all Toyota as all Yaris were for the Asian, European and Australasian markets.

Would love a review on the non hybrid. KZbin is full of hybrid reviews and not many people like them. A lot of people love driving the old fashion way, to have that plasure of driving, yes the boring old Toyota. It's ok as a company car, but is like driving train. Let's leave the green BS aside, cause a 3 cylinder 1.5 engine will not kill our planet. You can rest assure of that.
@Lemonzify Жыл бұрын
You're right, barely any company on the internet bothers to review the manual gearbox Yaris, so far I could only find a PoV video of it here but not much else. I've paid a reservation for the manual Yaris recently and hopefully it doesn't disappoint me on the test drive 😂
@MikeyyPham Жыл бұрын
It's because Yaris petrol is boring and it won't sell at this price point. If you really want one then Mazda 2 is the one for you
@martintaper79973 жыл бұрын
I really want to buy it, but it looks so ugly, and the dash is horrible too, so I'm glad it costs so much. The next Mazda 2 will be based on the Yaris, so maybe a good looking alternative.

Just get a Corolla for $1k more than deal with these overpriced cars that ride on cheap chassis design, drum brakes and NVH levels unchanged from not too long ago when these cars were sub-$20k propositions.

Styling looks very 2014 to me with the over-rounded elements and bulbous lighting design. Toyota needs to look at what Hyundai/Kia are doing design-wise in 2020. Edgy and clean.
