Toyota Sienna is absolutely the best minivan regardless of what other brands advertise their minivans. Toyota quality, huge dealers network, parts logistics, Toyota durability and simplicity making Sienna runs flawlessly for a very long time. My 2005 Sienna is just a few hundred miles short to to 300K miles and it’s still running flawlessly without having to rebuild anything. Even the frequently replacement items like AC, power windows, power steering, shock absorbers, struts, fuel pump, paint are still original and the powerful AC is iced cold during summer road trips across southern part of the country with outside temperatures up to 120 Fahrenheit. The Sienna can easily drive past 450 miles between refills during long trips. The ride is very compliant and without annoying choppy motions in sedans making the Sienna ideal for long road trips. We have Highlander, Pilot, Villager, Mazda MPV but Sienna is the best.

Agreed. I have a 2004 Sienna that my family purchased new back in 2004, it has around 290k miles now and it still drives like new. We had to replace the front left wheel bearing last year, but other than that it hasn’t needed any major repairs. My family took many road trips with it, now it’s just used by my father for his cleaning business. Years ago we also had a 2001 Sienna with over 300k miles, we sold it to a friend but it’s still running great. My father also had a ‘96 Previa almost 20 years ago.

Just watched another reviewer get 24mpg in '21 Sienna on mostly highway driving. I get that around town in my '18. Road trip to Disney from Texas I got 29mpg and it was fully loaded. Another note - rear cargo room was reduced by a huge margin, especially behind the third row where most of us will use a van for, 33cubic feet now vs 3rd Gen 39 cuft.

Sienna 2020 has more advantages than 2021. The dashboard controls system is more intuitive. The front seaters have up to 6 cups holders in total. The 2nd row seat can be removed. 2nd row seat’s floor cup holder is foldable. The 3rd row seat has dual cups holders and items holder boxers. The rear winshield wiper is hidden topdown. The engine is 3.6l V6 in 2020 means more horsepower. The hybrid 2.5l and its battery pack is not gonna last longer than 10years.

I'm TOTALLY with you, Jesfam. The MPG of the new hybrid is just really incredible, but I like the look of the previous generation more. 2020 is OK, but the face on the 2011 to 2017 was definitely, to me, the prettiest face, and my preferred style. Yes, Toyota Sienna is still the best mini van. Some dislikes. The front seat bridge looks fancy but is far less practical for storage. The 2020 arrangement works just fine. The loss of ability to remove the second row seats is also a loss for storage. When I want to travel with our bicycles and equipment I really appreciate being able to take the seats out. When I want to purchase wood I need the space. When I do a dump run I need the space. When family ask for help with moving I need the space. One last change I don't like is the use of smaller knobs for the screen display and AC. For a driver with mobility or sensory limitations the larger controls help. Universal design for able-bodied and physically challenged drivers should always be considered when re-engineering a vehicle.

Just got the 2021. Amazing ride. Fantastic handling. QUIET! Quieter than our Tesla Model 3. Space. Dogs love it. Haven't gotten all the electronics figured out yet. Mileage is fantastic. 500 miles on a tank of gas. Adequate power, not lots of torque, but it does move when you need it to. The only problem is the nose sits higher in the air than all previous minivans. Like a truck. Can't see as much of what's in front of you. But all the sensors will tell you something's there. Maybe too many noisy sensors. A small price to pay for all the comfort and the amazing ride.

Excellent comparison and presentation; especially soliciting the voice of the customer. Pros of 2021 in order of priority: - Fuel efficiency - this is game changing - AWD (without sacrificing fuel efficiency!) - very nice feature for midwesterners. - Updated interior with 9” touchscreen (now on par with competition) - Hands-free power sliding doors and lift gate Cons of 2021 in order of priority: Major: - Second row seating is not removable. This is a deal breaker and really contradicts the practicality of owning a minivan. If there is one take-away that you can share with Toyota as VOC, please ask them to design this feature back in. Other minor cons: - Bridge deck reduces front row space - Removed rotational climate control knobs Since the second row seats aren’t removable in the 2021, I would have to go with the 2020.

I have a 2015 Sienna, LE version though, so I don't get to enjoy the XLE features (I'd love an automatic lift for the trunk!). - That said, I would have to chose the 2020 version. I may be biased since the 2015 version looks very similar to the 2020 version, but the 2nd row, removable seat (+storage area in the back) makes it a better option for flexible seating. The spare tire in that same area is pretty cool for the 2021 version and pretty convenient, but storing the extra seat is important when your seating needs change (if you store the seat outside of your car when not in use, you don't have the option to use it if you are away from home). Also, I really love the space between the driver and (front) passenger. Not sure I am in love with the "bridge." The space on the floor is perfect for my pocketbook., and super accessable which I like. I like the flip down cup holder in the center console (for the 2nd row to use) as well. I have hauled lumber in my sienna and flipping the cup holder down actually makes a difference. One last issue I have with the 2021 is the third row windows. They seem too small. I never sit in the 3rd row, so maybe it's not an issue, but I really like the amount of window the 3rd row has available is better. However, this is all inconsequential since my 2015 is running strong and I have no plans to trade this in for a new Toyota anytime soon. :)
@ldlink3935

5:43, the earlier model has larger windows, letting more light in. I think the middle row seats are also more easily removable (yet don't have embedded airbags like the newer model). I despise the "bridge" console in the new model....but the instrument panel / dashboard and hybrid really make the decision a toss up. Great video, this is helpful for my buying decision, along with your other Sienna videos, THANKS!

I don't understand this statement. Why would they never buy a hybrid "because they drive not a lot" ? This makes no sense. The reason for hybrid is to offer strong capacity of power with an extremely low fuel consumption. With it generally comes lower consumption of normal consumables, like brakes, transmission, turbo failures and so on. Those are costs that will not exist or be extremely lowered. And this van is reported to have aroun the same acceleration time that his V6 concurrents. He will just be a little bit weaker on the tow.

@@boboutelama5748 Hybrid version costs about 2500 dollars more than non hybrid. If you drive only 5000 miles a year, it takes 15 years to recover that money. I need to be able to exit through the passenger door, -where I slip my boat there is a wall that blocks the drivers door. Nowadays there are so few vehicles where you can do that including this 4thgen. I also preferred my 2nd gen Sienna over my 3rd gen, it seemed to drive more comfortably and the rear door raised above my head height, I regularly bang my head on the third gen rear door😟. When I bought a better equipped 3rd gen I kept the 2nd gen for transporting the dogs. I found myself preferring to jump in the 2nd gen rather than the 3rd gen despite the smell left from wet dogs. The second row seats in the second generation Toyota was the best they have had. They should have had those seats or even better stow and go seats that also recline. The 2021 center console is ugly and makes things look cramped. The only upgrade should have been a dual frig/freezer and still have console storage with all the same cup holders as generation 3 models. Generation 2 and 3 models feel more roomy. Other awesome upgrade would be one, be able to stow away 3rd row seats on top of storage bins and the floor still be level throughout the vehicle. Two, have 110 outlets in front and 1 for each row. Three, hybrid with v6 if that's possible. Four, for it to be like the Prius so you can run air and heat when car is not running. Five, interior lights that can be on while it's not running with some kind of separate backup batteries that recharge while driving. Six AWD and raised chasse for more ground clearance. Six option of a high top roof. Seven, 2 moonroofs. Eight, option of 1 TV or TV's in back of front row headrest. Nine, Limo tint. Ten, pull up sunscreens and black out shades that cover the entire windows including the front windows. Eleven, built in screen for windshield and back window in hatch. For $50k I would also want the camera and the kick sensor opening door upgrades thar the 2021 have included. Still would want the 2 glove boxes and wouldn't mind having the storage hatch in door armrest like the generation 2 models had. I would still like to have the glasses storage units in front and wouldn't mind having 1 on each side of 2nd and 3rd row seats, up next to pull handles. These are easy things Toyota could provide here in the US. Look at there vans they sale in Japan. Also want the great Gas mileage of the 2021. Oh and have the option of 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation body styles. All of this would make it the best the US market has ever seen!!!

This is a game changer, and great for not just minivan's but other cars. Seriously, putting hybrid for all trim levels really puts other car manufacturers on notice. I love Toyota, actually used to drive a 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE limited and loved it. Love how roomy they are and so much storage, not to mention the technology in them. Now got to nit pick, I'm not a fan of the kicking your feet under the car. Think about holding a baby or groceries on a patch of ice, do you want to do the hokey pokey to open the door? Sounds silly. Second, why get rid of the option of removing the second row seats? Many people use their minivan besides moving their family around like contractors for example. Last, and this is not just for Toyota but all car manufacturers, bring back spare tires. Who wants to wait hours when you get a flat, especially in the middle of the night?
@waruddell
@waruddell 4 жыл бұрын
The non-removable "feature" of the 2nd row seats is due to the air bags built into them. I guess they don't trust their owners to reconnect electrical wires when reinstalling the seats. Solution, make them non-removable and greatly reduce the hauling capacity of their minivan. This is probably the biggest negative to the new model.

You showed how the third row of seats can fold down, and the middle seat in the second row can be removed. Can the other two seats in the second row be removed or folded down? If they can’t be removed or folded down it’s a deal breaker for me. I want to be able to use the vehicle for “ car camping”. You lose the versatility of the cargo space as a tradeoff for fuel economy. Good luck towing with the new Sienna, putting 4x8 ft. sheeting from improvement stores or 12 ft. of lumbers inside, which is doable with the old model. Try to load a washer, dryer, and matching set of pedestals at once in the new one, or middle size tractor as I did in the Previa and my current 2008 Sienna Limited. It is no go with the new one.
