You should point out where the water is coming in. under the plastic strips on the roof, where the roof and 1/4 panel meet by the rear hatch - there is a seam that cracks open & lets the water come in. A little caulking will keep the water out. I also removed the drain plug for the spare tire. No more ice inside my windscreen. Thank you for your educational videos.

I’ve sealed around the strips 5-6 years ago with RV silicone. Today I went to check just to be sure it didn’t start leaking again. Nice and dry. No battery swimming pool 😅

best to get battery terminal JIS to SAE adapters, then convert to normal post 12v battery.

Thank you Peter. Great video. Non Prius owner. The 2023 Prius Prime got and upgraded in styling . I'm down with the Kraut break. :) Thanks again. Kraut is very good for gut health. That is what someone once told me. :)

You mentioned the pool of water and showed how to open the drain plug but, where is the water coming from and and how do we stop it? You also didn't mentioned if you replaced the drain plug which I assume you did. Can you address this in a short video please? Some people say the problem is a crack under the plastic rail on the roofs rain gutters but I'm not sure that's definitely it. Thanks for all the terrific videos!

San Francisco has many of these. One bought theirs on car care but. They spend money to fix anything just to have it working. Many key marks in door and walking by carrying purse and bag type of scratches on side door panels

thanks, I just replaced the little battery for the 4th time in my 2007 Prius. as luck would have it all 4 times have been in the dead of winter here in Chicago when the car would not start on a very cold day and so after getting a jump I had to change this battery in the parts store parking lot in the freezing windy cold. Good times !! I have always put the 9 inch version into the car but often have been offered (and refused) the 7 inch version by the counter guy. I have never encounter the swimming pool of water but again since the battery always dies in the dead of winter, that pool would be frozen and so perhaps I never noticed. I have never looked down there except in sub-zero weather. I always wondered why this battery seems to last fewer years than my batteries in other non hybrid cars, perhaps its because the engine has to restart itself dozens of times during a typical city driving trip, compared to only one start per trip in a non hybrid. at least the starter seems to be hanging in there. cheers

I always carry a portable jump box (Audew 2000A). I've never needed it for my own car, but I recommend everyone carry one. The 12v doesn't crank the engine. It only starts the computer. The computer then flips the solenoid switch, which connects the 200v battery, which then powers everything. Prii do not have starter motors. They also don't have alternators. MG1 and MG2 last forever (except in Gen 1).

Hopefully you know about the underhood jumpstart method! I think Petr has covered it in an older video, no need to access the aux battery compartment for a simple jumpstart (atleast until battery replacement time later)

@@berryreading4809 oh yes I've had to lift that little red cap up many times. interestingly however I have noted on a few attempts that you can not jump a Prius with another Prius going from those fuse box terminals.

@@aliendroneservices6621 wow thanks that is so interesting, makes a lot of sense. too bad there is no dash display warning that the 12 V battery is getting weak and at the end of its life before it suddenly is dead.

Thank you, Professor. I am caring for my mom's 2005 Prius. Pristine. Yes, the auxilliary battery needs tending, and replacing. Solves 99% of her start issues. Thank you so much for swimming pool mention. I will do pool maintenance, too. Also, dryer sheets do discourage mice from using the resort inside the Prius.

The build date on my 2016 Prius c Two is January 2016. It's still on its original 12v. One thing which helps is that it doesn't have *_Magic Key_* (which is a drain on the battery).

Car care nut likes gommets in. Where was all that water COMING from??🤔 Could it be the hatch upper gutter? 💡 💡!!! Gen 2's are notorious for leaking. 😉🇺🇸

Don't worry, I laughed the same way when I saw the water accumulation in my 3rd gen battery compartment 😅.. you opened the drain plug from the bottom, though on mine it opens from the battery compartment, which i think is a better cause it'll last longer before perishing. Great video btw!

not a bad strategy because you should never be stranded. Most of my batteries are older than 3 years. I have one in my toyota pickup from 2009 and it still works great, but I had to replace a battery that was 4 years old a while back. It's a crap shoot with them.

@@FantaLaStrada My daughter goes to college several hours away up in the mountains, with a fresh battery the ole 100 series land cruiser will fire up in the worst of conditions. I sleep much better at night. Toyota in the Spring will put their batteries on sale for $120, not too bad.

What about the title of the video, I thought I was going to be educated about a prius battery? Besides going on about the size of the thing I don't think he said anything useful or relevant. I don't think this guy knows anything of importance about the Prius except that he got a good deal on the vehicle. I thought I would learn something. He's got a lot of pretty tool boxes in his pristine shop, I wonder if he knows how to use them? I Took 10 minutes to find out nothing.

I replaced this battery and made a stupid mistake. After removing the old battery, I decided to put the new one in the next day. I closed the hatchback overnight. But the latch is electric. So the latch would not open. I had to climb over the back seats to manually unlatch. Duh! Had to laugh at myself. Ha.

Easy mistake. How many times did u forget to turn car off?🤔 I STILL DO IT! 🙄😂 There's a video where a guy was wrkn on his prius brakes, owned a gen 4, had key fob in his pocket & opened drivers door activating brake actuator, hence pistons popped out. He was brave and thoughtful to put out video. Everyone was kind to him & he helped all of us & I appreciated it!👍✊ I would have done the same thing.
