Best oil change video for Toyota on the Tube heck may be best oil change video period. Really appreciate learning to use an old oil bottle as a perfect fit funnel brilliant tip. Thank you and nice job. I got so fed up dropping about $120 at the quick lube joints only to see massive oil drips on my garage or driveway, leaving me wondering what that kid under my vehicle did or didn’t do. I decided to invest in all the tools needed to properly and as easily as possible change the oil myself like I did so many years ago when I was a young man. Even though I have a full ratchet set, I bought a new socket set with extended 10mm and 14mm sockets for the oil pan plug and oil filter housing plug. I bought an oil filter removal tool. I bought 2 vehicle ramps (the kind you can drive your car up on in your garage or driveway just to get a little lift). I bought an oil drain pan. I also got a box of throw away latex gloves. I got all these things in total with tax for $93 at Harbor Freight out the door (although I did have a 10% off coupon). So, I’ve got all the stuff I need to do this on my own and I’m still about $30 ahead on a crappy who knows if they even changed the O rings quick change place! Now I simply buy oil and filters and I’m good to go. After my 2nd oil change with oil and filters included in the price as well, I made my money back and then some compared to doing it at the quick lube and getting quick lubed! A nice side benefit is it really gets my hot wife all hot when I wrench on the car and change her oil too, so I even get some lovin’ out of this deal, IF it’s the right summer day LOL!

Video very well done. I appreciate you posting it. Wife recently got a 2019 Highlander with a 3.5L (2GR-FKS) V6 engine... manual says 5.8 quarts of oil (when also changing filter) and 5.6 quarts of oil (when not changing filter). This is less than the 6.4 quarts you needed for the 2013 that you were working on. I liked that you were spot-on re: the Toyota requirement to run the engine for at least 5 minutes to do the oil level check because the quantity of oil specified in the manual is just a "reference" value. Please keep the videos coming. I too am jealous of your lift, and of your digital torque wrench! :) Can you hear the "beep" over ambient shop noise when others are working?

Finally, a video that shows exactly where the large O ring rides. Bought after market filter and the instructions show the location on the filter casing from a mile away - completely worthless instructions. Worse yet, the last place that changed the oil filter put the O ring at the end of the threads - in the wrong place. Foto of that Toyota parts box is just what everyone needs.

You dont put a little new oil in the new oil filter so when you start the car it's not running "dry" for that split second?
@condor56355 жыл бұрын
Dc2 - if you can (like this car) do it then do it. If you can't (filter is sideways) then don't. Many people say it is not needed but the way I figure is why not do it if you can and it is so easy to do?

I noticed you did not remove the small silver ring from the oil filter which allows access to use oil drain plug (comes with oil filter). I recently changed oil on my 2009 highlander myself and the silver ring would not unscrew.. instead, the whole filter turned so I essentially did the same thing you did.

Great video Toyota maintenance as an owner of two Highlanders I flip back-and-forth between taking the drain cap off and not taking it off when draining the housing. I hate the design that makes it a mess either way basically. I think I'd stick with Mobile 1 or Castrol Edge oil instead of Toyota oil which I'm sure is more expensive and harder to get anyway. Thanks for the great video love the lift you have. I'm jealous

It goes under the oil filter cap drainplug which he apparently doesn't bother removing. Instead he just loosens the oil filter cap until it starts to drain around the edges of it and waits awhile before completely removing it. I don't see how that saves any time but each to his own.

There are two different sized oil filter cap wrenches made by most manufacturers. One fits the 1.8 liter engine and the other fits most if not all larger Toyota oil filter caps for cartridge systems. The one I recommend us at www.amazon.com/Motivx-Tools-Toyota-Filter-Engines/dp/B00XTAGHU0

@jimdandy64726 жыл бұрын
He says 25 Newton-Meters +/- 5, which is about 15 to 22 foot-pounds, so 20 ft.lbs would be good.
@jimdandy64726 жыл бұрын
The says 40 Newton-Meters for the drain plug, which is 30 foot-pounds.
@stevensevek61514 жыл бұрын
The filter housing is only 25N•m which is equal to only 18 ft.lbs. Therefore 30 ft.lbs is way too much. Still it shouldn't leak unless you put the o-ring in the wrong groove which is a common mistake. The drain plug on the oil filter assembly cap should only be at 10 ft.lbs.
