I recently bought a 2018 Pilot Touring (certified). I tried both Highlander and Pilot before i made my decision. Initially i wanted to purchase Highlander but it has most uncomfortable seats (specifically the third row seats are horrible) on the other hand, Pilot is very comfortable, lots of room, and easily fits 8 adults without any problems. If you go for long drive frequently, and take your family and friends with you then i definitely recommend Honda Pilot over Highlander.

As usual, Scotty, your videos are extremely informative, and this one is also one of your best. I have considered a Highlander for a long time, but didn't know which year to buy or if I should consider the hybrid. Since we're in an inflationary period and vehicles are increasinging price--even used ones--I believe the 2018 hybrid would be a pretty good pick. What do you think, Scotty? I'm not a Honda fan due to their CVT's which can be very problematic over time.

My 2011 pilot has been trouble free with one exception. The front brake rotors would warp in less than 10,000 miles. I replaced them with oem honda rotors a few times, no luck, I tried a few pairs of aftermarket, same problem. A few years ago I put on a pair of “power stop” brand rotors. They were expensive but they are holding up beautifully.

We purchased a 2017 Acura MDX last month and it would suddenly go into limp mode at random times, which is dangerous. It’s apparently a common issue but Acura doesn’t recognize it, so instead of fighting with the dealership, we traded for a 2017 Highlander. So far, great car and this video confirms that we made the right decision.

I'm surprised you said the 2017 was a good year for the highlander. That was the first year of the 8 speed transmission and it was a problem. Toyota had to do "software" updates to correct. Worth mentioning in my opinion

I have a 2017 and they extended the transmission warranty to 10 years unlimited miles. There was a manufacturing issue where a pin comes lose and blows the transmission. Many failures at low miles, but appears to be isolated. I think the faulty ones went right away. The transmission refresh is not a big deal.
@retiredrebel
@retiredrebel 3 жыл бұрын
Best to avoid 2017, unless the issues have been solved. 2018-2019 is better, the refresh added a combination of direct fuel injectors along with the port injectors. Looks better and is more efficient than 2015-2016. Hybrids are very well built. My 2016 HiHybrid lasted 751,xxx km (470,000 miles) and was sold for a good amount considering everything.

I absolutely love my 2017 Highlander Hybrid. It's very quick accelerating from a stop and in passing at highway speeds. The seats could be a little more comfortable, and access to the 3rd row is still far more difficult than that of my 2015 Honda Pilot. The 2015 Pilot is also a great car. It is much roomier and quiet than my Highlander, and it gets around in the snow better than any car I've ever driven. All told, the Pilot is a more comfortable vehicle, but the Highlander feels more agile and gets almost twice as many MPG. I also handed down my 2010 Highlander Hybrid to my daughter. The 2010 still looks new and drives great at around 150K miles. Bottom line, we've owned multiple model years of both vehicles, and they were all great cars.

Scotty, I bought a 2005 Pilot brand new and It's still running smooth after well over 3000,000 mi. My family loves the eight seat and cargo room. The only major problems I've had was replacing the rack and pinion twice, and it's burning a lot of oil especially since a local mechanic replaced a head because he said his arm slipped when he was doing a timing belt job. He said he replaced it (for free) with a 2009 salvage head but shortly after I noticed the sparkplugs in the replaced head were fouled with oil. I'm gonna keep an eye on it after he claimed he fixed the problem. What do you think?
