Hey Phill, I have a question, does this Power Line work at long distances? I'm asking because my router is in the living room and I wanted to put the powerline in my room which is two floors above, I would like to know if you can help me!

Would these work ok if my router is downstairs with one adapter and my pc is upstairs with the other adapter
@philstraintravels9281
@philstraintravels9281 3 жыл бұрын
That's how I had it set up and it worked perfectly. The router was downstairs on one side of the house and my laptop was upstairs on the other, using wi-fi it dropped out constantly, using this is was like being directly connected. Though you should be aware this review is 3 years old so some things may be different on newer models.

No, this model is ethernet connection only between the router and adapter, then adapter to computer. Though it is an old model so the newer ones may have that feature.

Hiya, I can't say I've come across that problem in the three months I've been using this product. The only time I've had an issue was when we had a new router delivered and it took a few attempts to pair my Powerline Adapter next to my PC to the one connected to the router. I hate to say it but after several attempts to reconnect I simply repaired the plugs by pressing the small switch underneath and the running upstairs to the other one and pressing and holding the other.

@fabe61

Because your WiFi speed is the speed of your WiFi, not the speed of your (internal) Ethernet connection. Do you mean download speed?

Missing study is bandwidth limit of Modem/Router, distance form router to client & bandwidth of ISP. Also missing Network speed at modem via Ethernet.

@philstraintravels9281
@philstraintravels9281 6 жыл бұрын
This is the first powerline adaptor I've used so I honestly can't say, sorry. Though after 3 months of use the connection has so far dropped out only a few times and I suspect that was due to the crappy BT Internet and the poor router we have.

What speed package was you paying for? The 71mb line?
@philstraintravels9281
@philstraintravels9281 5 жыл бұрын
I believe it was 'up to' 78 Mbps and we averaged around 68 - 70. Using this adapter I got the full 68 - 70 Mbps and using wifi from that location around 50 Mbps to unusable due to constant drop outs.

@@philstraintravels9281 nice thanks mate hardly any loss then pretty impressive. You could... if you wanted to try a cat 6 cable it could give you a few more mbps from the router to 1st powerline

Hi Phil are the Powerline speeds consistent or do they fluctuate?
@philstraintravels9281
@philstraintravels9281 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, on this particular model I found the speeds to be as consistent as a standard wired connection. But you should be aware this review is almost 3 years old and the models will probably have changed by now. I can say my connection improved dramatically from the wi-fi dropping out or running at a crawl to fast speeds so they were worth the purchase, though I now live elsewhere and the wi-fi reception is reliable so I don't use them.

dude, your video is misleading ! internet connection is one thing, internal network is something else. of course wi-fi is slower than direct cable (in this case)

Does it boost your WiFi also?
@philstraintravels9281
@philstraintravels9281 5 жыл бұрын
No, this is just a powerline adaptor and doesn't boost WiFi, other models do boost the Wifi but not this one. Though I was amazed at how much speed difference using this makes compared to WiFi. Even though I say I currently use WiFi as my reception is better the speed difference in other rooms is noticeable.

Do both have to be connected with Ethernet? Thanks
@philstraintravels9281
@philstraintravels9281 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to connect both ends to your computers Ethernet sockets. The first part goes from your router to the powerline adapter which plugs into the wall and the other end connects from the powerline adapter to your computer. I think the cable supplied is about 1m but you can buy your own quite cheaply. It takes about 2 minutes to set up and even allowing for silly mistakes like I did doesn't take much longer.... I forgot to turn off the wi-fi connection on my laptop!

Do they randomly drop connection because when I bought to link few years back they went into sleep mode every so often which was terrible for online gaming obviously. Have they fixed that with these ones because it was a TP link one before not a passthrough one though.

@philstraintravels9281
@philstraintravels9281 5 жыл бұрын
No, it connects to your router and then plugs into the wall power socket and sends the internet along your home wiring. It's actually a great replacement for wifi if there are areas of your house that don't get a wifi signal.
