Hey Bob, about a build video, you don't need to make it if you don't want to. You can send a frame for someone to make a build video for you. Someone like AndyRC, who knows. 😊 I'm getting back to KZbin... And I'm starting to make videos both in Portuguese and English... But I have LOTS of videos to edit and so on... And you already sent a frame for Andy if I'm not mistaken. 😊

I love your insights from hours of experience with the motors. No one else tells me things accurately like "Tends to race through the lower rpms giving you less low end control." etc. This is valuable stuff that motor companies and drone companies have not captured and shared before. Thanks dood. (And I guess this explains why I suddenly couldn't find that FC available. ;)

So I'm kind of confused where you got those numbers for the area of the disk. Area is calculated as (pi* (r^2)), so in the case of 1 inch props, I got (0.5^2)* pi = .785in^2. Multiplied by the four props, we get 3.14 (or pi) in^2, which does not agree with the '12.6' for the 1-inch prop shown in the video. The same can be seen with 2.5 and 3 inch, where I got (1.25^2)*pi = 4.91in^2 and (1.5^2)*pi = 7.07 in^2 respectively. If we multiply both of these by 4, we get 19.6 in^2 and 28.3 in^2 for 2.5 and 3 inch props (4 props). I also calculated the 'percent more disk area', based on your numbers, and got similar numbers. Also, when I calculate it with the A = (pi) * (r^2) formula for 1 prop, I get pretty much the exact percentage differences that you got. The only discrepancies that I got were within
@Kabab4 жыл бұрын
Well you definitely understood the point and yeah I used to do these videos really quickly back then and didn't check anything because I just didn't have time. I still don't have time today but I try to pay more attention. It wouldn't surprise me if all my numbers were somehow wrong but the concept is the same and the numbers don't quite matter as much as the concept
@chrisbee54813 жыл бұрын
@@Kabab your math is faulty, but the point is correct. I studied the correct disc area tables and come to the conclusion a 3.3 inch Prop is ideal. A 3S 110g AUW is great, but something inbetween the 3 inch 110g and new 250g 3,5 inch would be a new performance category

Since you have tested so many motors... there is still one you missed, although it's around for a very long time. I'm talking about the good old Brotherhobby Returner 1402 8100kv. I run these on a very light weight (80g) 3 inch build (Komori frame and HGLRC Zeus) on gemfan 3025 props and i absolutely love this combination on 450/550mah 3S. On top of that these motors are very durable - i bashed the heck out of this quad for at leat 1 1/2 years now and not one of these motors ever failed on me!

Thinner rotors (the bell) are more efficient at higher speeds because they have less rotational inertia than wider ones. But you sacrifice torque and therefore control. This is why the 1105 are more efficient. Rotational inertia goes up with the square of the radius and linearly with the height while torque goes up linearly with both the radius and the height. For the same height, a 12-wide stator have 19% more rotational inertia than an 11-wide but it only has 9% more torque (which is actually power if we consider the same rpm, and 9% is a lot). (6mm radius x 5.5mm radius).

That ribbing probably gives the outside of the bell something like 50% more surface area so I'd imagine it would help cooling a decent amount.

Gotta agree with you on the difference between the aio boards and a 16x16 stack. Did a direct comparison a cpl days ago. Same frame, motors, cam, vtx, rx the only diff was one had the betafpv toothpick board and one the iflight 16x16. You could tell a diff between the two. The one with the aio board just responded way better in the air. The 16x16 felt kind weird when trying to do flips and such. I guess the height of the stack made the difference, I donno but everyone agreed the aio board felt better.

What you felt is the difference between a lower powered fet and ESC design vs one that's more appropriate for the level of build. it doesn't mean one is bad and the other is good, it just means that one is not suitable for this particular application

KababFPV true true. The iflight stack is a good one. So is the betafpv. All I know is the beta one just felt more locked in more stable. And they both had your fpvcycle 1204 motors on them. Bob, big 3d printer enthusiast / kabab fpv fan here. I've had much more success using PLAflex for 3d printed canopies - as you say, tpu is way too cushy in a crash and has far too much give to properly protect components. PLAflex is flexible but not elastic, a key difference. It's also a fair bit stiffer and I feel it may even be slightly stronger than TPU in a typical drone crash. You should see if you can get a sample or HMU and I can hook you up 👍 highly recommend based on how you feel about TPU
@Kabab5 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely pla is better but it cracks. Moulded is best. That's what I'll be carrying
@JarredBaines5 жыл бұрын
@@Kabab no no man! PLAflex is NOT PLA - it's misleading... It's "like" a pla tpu blend (but technically it's not), stiffer but with huge impact and shear resistance unlike PLA which is very brittle and has less shear strength. I've never broken a PLAflex part but it doesn't move as much as you in a crash either. While I've got you, this video was awesome BTW - one of your best rambles yet for sure! Thanks!

2 vs 3 blades on 2.5 inch prop?

The 2s motors are actually on the way shortly. The 1303 5000kv are pretty darn good on 2S also albeit not quite as fast as 3S. Ideally something in the 7000-8000kv range is better for 2s

@Kabab5 жыл бұрын
I haven't found any 16x16 stacks that are worth anyones time. The iflight one is maybe the best options but the darn interboard pins kill it. 20x20 is too physically large and requires multiple boards which will make it taller and distribute the weight more. 65mm works fine on this frame but no real point when you can run 3" maybe

The tuneRC poly AIO board is among the best options however if you stay away from betaFPV, hglrc, happymodel and various unknown brands, you'll be fine.
@MrLoomis110 Жыл бұрын
@@Kabab The TuneRC board seems to be a good option for what you get. In my case is availability and service the problem. I life in Germany and the most shops run out off stuff, also it’s only a hand full left in the last years. Betafpv, Aikon are here in Germany one off the most available boards. Best for value could be Betafpv….. F405 V4 and F411 V5. What would you choose in my situation?
@Kabab Жыл бұрын
@@MrLoomis110 betaFPV is fine except that their boards literally catch fire from time to time and failure's are a regular thing. As long as it doesn't stop working, it's fine. Aikon is so much more expensive but does not have a 100% QC rate either however it is drastically better. I would personally probably go for the betaFPV if I had no other options because I just have a hard time paying such extravagant prices for these things. That being said, the aikon may end up being cheaper in the long run. Realistically, I'd recommend ordering from Banggood. I hate to recommend them but their shipping is drastically cheaper than ordering from the USA or anywhere else thanks to the Chinese government subsidizing it.

So far the Rcinpower 1204 5000kv motors are good although I wish they would have gone a little higher in kv. I run them in a 68g rig with 3s 450mah and 2.5" Avans. The low end authority is awesome but the top end is a little lacking.
@Kabab5 жыл бұрын
Increasing the kv would make the top and even worse. what you are stealing is a prop that is too much for the motors to manage you still get great low end but as the props gain rpm it becomes exponentially harder for the motor to push them. This is why I've stuck to twin blades. The throttle feel is fantastic across the whole range. I also just finished working on tri blade gym fan that should be coming out in the next couple of weeks.
