The bass player had the night of his life. Had perhaps never heard of Henry before? Noooo, impossible.... But just couldn't believe his eyes and ears. Henry really is from another dimension, improvising a bit and ramming this out of the keyboard on a random Friday evening. Very, very, very impressive.

Learn bebop. That will give you the fundamentals on how the sound of modern jazz works. Then from there experiment with playing with different key centers to get that “out” sound.
