I seldom comment online but I do have to say this: I tend to stay away from your pick'n'mix as I cannot afford any more G.A.S. I came for the piano pedal and stayed for the entire episode as the next pedal was more inspiring than the previous one as we all could tell from your playing. Having said that, and because I seldom comment online I would just like to give my huge thanks to Dan and Mick for what you've been doing these last few years. I started watching the show before this channel existed (back on Dan's channel) and even though I'm a guitar player for now 20 years I have never learned so much about sound (and everything related to it) as in the last few years(thanks KZbin!), and you two are right there on the top. Thank you so much for the ride you've taken us on.

Great show as usual! So glad you finally got round to covering the Dark Side. I bought one on Anderton's black Friday deal. It's amazing. The Rotary is superb. I wish you guys had learnt how to use it before showing it though. It's not the most obvious pedal, because the coloured indicators for the delay have a specific meaning, and takes a bit of figuring out which setting you like. Anyways, it's a fantastic pedal. Would love you guys to try it against a collection of the equivalent separate pedals. Same for the monterey pedal which is almost the same pedal.

I have an EHX Superego and it seems to do almost exactly what the plus pedal does. It had the effects loop and all as well as latch momentary and Auto modes with control over glissando, mix, attack and decay speed etc... The Superego+ just came out that has even more functionality with a whole host of built in effects that can effect your dry or sustained signal. I don’t own a + yet but I imagine it’s great. The plus pedal looks amazing though. I really like how the pedal is built like an actual organ sustain pedal.

Hey boys, the ARP-87 actually also has a hidden mode. If you move the mode switch all the way to the left (digital), hold down the tap and move the mode all the way to the right (slapback) and then release the tap switch, the slapback mode will be replaced by a tremolo-type modulated delay until the process is done backwards to bring back the slapback.

The fuzz in the Dark Side is an op-amp fuzz (!!) tuned to be able to sound like a silicon Fuzz Face (definitely), or Big Muff (I think). I don't think it's available on its own. There was briefly the Echoes delay, which is a slightly warmer version of the delay in the Dark Side.

The Dark Side V1 is better imo because it has an effects loop and exp insert. I love putting a phaser or Chorus to give the Delay an even more spacy sound. And one can still change the order of the two channels with a trs insert that Keeley supplies. The Tape Delay though has hours of just tweaking to get many different styles of sound, and sounds as good as other pedals that are only tape delay emulators. The uni-vibe and Rotary are my favorites of the other four mods.

But, after a few days and sessions getting to grips with it, I can make some 'awesome' wooshy ambient music. The moment It clicked with me was when I added trem or chorus into its loop, they make it so musical. It should be a built in feature. It's a grower that pedal :) Love the show guys. Keep it up.

Definitely more of an extension to the instrument or an instrument in itself rather than a simple pedal... Demands time and practice to get comfortable and capable of consistent and musical results... But once that time is put in it opens a whole world of possibilities!

@johngerson73356 жыл бұрын
So the "Plus" is the perfect pedal to use when reproducing all of your favorite Pink Floyd "long intros". Especially "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". You can play Richard Wright's parts and hold them while doing Gilmour's bits in answer. Very freaking cool, might have to have one! Btw, really wish Mr. Keeley would do a dedicated four-function pedal encompassing separated versions of all the modulations contained in the "Darkside" and a dedicated delay pedal of the same type! I don't want much do I lol?!
@FossilFishy6 жыл бұрын
Everyone reviewing the Plus seems to forget that the Superego exists. Lots of people are pointing this out in the comments; if they can remember why can't reviewers? Time someone did a head-to-head comparison. I've had a Superego for a couple of years now and I love it. It's not just for ambient, put it in momentary mode and hit and hold notes as you solo. Hit a high E, freeze it and drop down for your nardy, nardy, woodly, woodly finger wiggling and that held high screaming note adds energy and tension, especially if you play dissonant notes against it. I do live looping and also use it to do syth-like pads. Paired with a EHX Chillswitch and you can do rhythmic stabs.
@ThatPedalShow6 жыл бұрын

@GitShiddy6 жыл бұрын
It's interesting that the coolest thing about the Plus is also the thing that makes it impractical, the aesthetics. Like functionally it could seemingly be in a standard box and just be a nicer version of the Freeze, but if it was it would be kind of lame. Sort of a rock and a hard place situation for that pedal. The ARP-87 is very intriguing especially with you guys mentioning it have a tape-esque quality, plus I liked the lo-fi mode. But everytime I hear a new delay I constantly think is it really worth ditching my trusty old Carbon Copy? Not sure if that's a familiarity thing or what, but every new delay I hear it's like "That's a great sounding delay, I already have a great delay oh well, maybe I'll change it one day" It's a weird headspace like I'm constantly in a 'Schrodingers Delay' purgatory like situation.

Really interesting to hear the Audio Plus pedal. I've seen another NAMM video and it seemed awesome, I could definitely think of some cool uses for it. Hearing it in this video, it's a bit more 'loopy' sounding that I'd realised - as in you can hear that it's repeating a very short sample over and over, rather than being as smooth as I'd maybe like, so I'm a bit more hesitant about dropping £300 on it. The loop function is really cool, I'd love to try something like playing on a clean tone but sticking an overdrive pedal in the loop. Would have been nice to hear you try it on Wet Mode.

Loving the Dark Side and the Walrus Warden Hodges. Sound epic. Think I’ve proved to myself now I’m a tape delay sort of person.

We are too. And maybe Echorecs. Ooh, and a bit of analogue. Ah, and a 2290... eeeek!

That Pedal Show funnily enough the show with the reel (get it!) tape delays is one of my personal favs. Also do you think the Dark Side Fuzz is the same as Monterey Fuzz?

No I was wrong. It says on Keeley website it’s a 77 style op amp Fuzz like the Psi Fuzz.

Loved the Walrus ARP-87... should combine it with a Mercury7 Reverb by Meris... sounds amazing!

I’d like to hear the plus pedal with a slo or astronomer on the FX loop. The dark side is one of my favorite pedals ever. I wish it could do a few things to use it how I want to use it. But it can nail that Floyd tone, that old school dark side of the moon tone. It’s a great pedal.

Looks like maybe the Rotten Apple is the standalone version of the Dark Side fuzz. The info page for it says "Did you know we took all we learned from our Dark Side fuzz and made this one even less noisy while increasing the gain dramatically!"

As a PLUS owner... the issue with demoing the pedal... is that it's much more than a pedal. The way that it functions is far more organic than similar devices which means that the it needs to be learned and felt... almost played. This requires practice and time with the device which I don't think either has had. This is made obvious by consistently sampling the attack rather than the stable waveform. As well as this I think Dan using his hands while Mick plays is the least tactile way for the pedal to be utilised... Great video still!!! As always!

You’re absolutely right! We should just give up doing stuff we don’t use. I think that’s a good way forward. Still, as an introduction to the idea of the pedal and to encourage other humans to check it out, maybe this is useful. Cheers!

I didn't even realise you lads replied 6 months ago!! I didn't mean to belittle the testing at all!!! Definitely don't avoid reviewing new and fresh pedals. Have either of you had more time on the PLUS since?

Another great show today guys!! Love them all. Have you guys ever reviewed any of the Fran Tone pedals? I just noticed she is making pedals again. I've probably been living under rock and the only person in the world that didn't know this. She made some cool pedals back in the day.

Can you guys do some cheap pedal videos, budget stuff and try and get some good setups, like belcat, joyo, sub zero, donner, real cheap stuff like that. See can you guys get a genuinely good setup from cheap gear. As much as I like these fancy pedals, I can't afford them!

Nick Haakman I saw it, but I mean really cheap pedals, like the brands I mentioned. To see if they can get a good sound out of a combination of them.
