One advantage of a Trabant - you don't need to go under the car to remove the tank. Much less messy. "CAD - cardboard aided design!" I like that.

Brilliant, welding better than most car repair shops, job well done, try and get some gloves when welding tho, as the UV can basically give your hands sun burn, I learnt the hard way!

Is it difficult to acquire replacement parts since its been out of production for thirty years?
@Laracrafttrabant3 жыл бұрын
Don't forget that it also was in production in a Communist state for 26 Years and 2.818.547 of the 601 where made. So combine the hording of some poor commies with modern aftermarket production, there is quite a bunch. I know a girl that can get me parts if i need something bigger, she works in a Workshop in east Germany, so she is right at the Source. The de facto online-shop (sometimes a bit pricey) is Trabantwelt.de Robert over at Aging Wheels being stuck in the USA uses it a lot as far as i am aware. i always love getting old parts and restoring them it is more work but cheaper. my engine was like 90€ for the crankshaft and 100€ for the lower housing :D lets see how long she lasts ^^" kind regards Lara Craft
