The first time i heard this song i was driving home from work. I had to pull over because of the tears. My friend's Dad, ( who is mine also), is buried in Arlington. He served in the Army in Vietnam as a medic. When i got out of the submarine service in 1991, he was the first non family member to welcome me home and to help me adjust to civilian life. He died just a few years later. At his burial, the Honor Guard was Amazing!! They had a soldier escort his widow by the arm and explained everything to her. At the graveside , these guys executed every move flawlessly, the 21 gun salute sounded as one rifle. The feeling of pride overshadowed sadness. The headstones of the men and women buried there, no matter the direction, are perfectly in line. If anyone is thinking of going to Arlington, please go, it will be an experience you'll never forget. Id also visit the Vietnam Wall, the Nurses Statue, Korean and WW1 and WW2 memorials. The WW1 is behind the tree line on the one side of the reflecting pool. All i ask is be respectful . Im sure all would be anyway.

If you have never been to this most sacred ground and have a chance to go, do so as it is a most humbling experience. The feeling you get when you actually walk amongst the rows of white crosses and witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is like nothing you have ever felt before. Thank you Trace for this song and a huge thank you to every Veteran since the Revolutionary War. You all are the real examples for our youth to look up to. RIP heroes, you have earned it.

This is a beautiful song. It always makes me cry. Our son has been in the US Navy since 2004. He is currently deployed. He hopes to be buried in Arlington some day. I pray that day never comes during my lifetime. Bless you and thank you to all of the veterans and to those currently serving out there. Rest in peace, Uncle Billy, Uncle Jerry, and Uncle Bobby Joe, and to all of you, too many to mention, who have given your lives in service to our country. Thank you for this video. I used to live in Bethesda, maryland, just outside of DC.My dad took us to Arlington the first time, when I was 8 years old. Even at that age, seeing the acres and acrews of snow white tombstones laid out in perfect symetry was truly heart wrenching. Then watching the absolutely perfect ritual of the Chainging of the Guard at the Tomb of the UnknownSsoldier, it is impossible to not tear up. The absolutely serene respect shown to those entombed there will move you like nothing else. Some folks believe that the white marble stone is in fact where they are buried; it is not. The three Unknown Soldiers and buried under the engraved marble slabs in fron of the Memoriam sarcophagus. The films about how the three representeative Unknowns were selected is available on line and even those ceremonies were beautiful and so respectful.

I remember that there was a funeral that day with a horse and carriage and I remember seeing the eternal flame.. But I have pride in my country and every man/woman that has served .. When my husband came home from Vietnam he still had 9 months to serve in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Belvour Virginia which is right outside Washington DC. We would ride into DC on the weekends and look at all the beautiful buildings. Once we went to Arlington Cemetery. I will never forget the feeling of seeing rows and rows of those white headstones. It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop!! So so sad! I think every US Citizen should visit that place. You feel the loss of life so deeply but you also never felt so much of being an American seeing all those who gave up their life for you!! 🇺🇸❤️😢🙏

First, thank you for not interrupting it and I can honestly, truly see by watching your face and eyes that you felt something while listening to it. That means alot and shows me that you understand the sacrifices and it matters to you, it's not just something you said because it's the right thing to say. Because you showed respect for the content and meaning of the song, I wanted to show you the respect and say thank you for that and leave you some kind words. Have a Great 2020.

The Price of a Mile, and To Hell and Back...which is about Audi Murphy. Most decorated US Serviceman ever. Little guy from Texas who became a movie star after WWII. MRM, every single time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes. And, one of the good things about Trace Adkins is that he's a huge supporter of the military and the USO. My husband served and retired from the United States Air Force just over 5 years ago. I was a proud Air Force wife for 17 of his 20 year journey. Songs like this always get me because I saw it firsthand. Heck, I cry every time I hear "The Star Spangled Banner".

Ty as a veteran we appreciate the sentiment that artist should recognize both our veterans and our very brave men and women that are proudly wearing the uniform today. However making it a requirement that someone honor our military could never have the same meaning as someone who does so freely because they feel that they should. I'm sure that some very nice songs would be written and performed, but the message in the meaning would be lost on the fact that this person is only doing this because they have to, not because they feel it's the right thing to do and something they feel that they need or want to do. It wouldn't come from the heart where the songs being done right now do. They would simply be a "have to" in order to fulfill a contract. We prefer the real people acknowledgement from those that truly feel respect for us. And don't get me wrong, we certainly did not join for acknowledgement or respect, we didn't join for the pay or benefits, as my wife and I was discussing this morning if someone did join for those reasons they are certainly in for a very rude awakening. If anyone joined for any reason other than the feeling that it's their duty, they change that thought real quick. So were not glory hounds and don't seek acknowledgement praise or respect. But it's nice when someone does take the time to recognize the sacrifices made by all in uniform. Sacrifices that we make so they don't have to. Those are the people that write, and produce, and perform the music that shows the thanks for our service. That's the music that we appreciate and proudly fight for.

Agreed. One of the things we went into service for was the idea of the freedoms we are supposed to have in the United States. So, if an artist doesn't feel they want to do a tribute, they don't have to. They are supposed to be free to choose to or to choose otherwise.

I can't hear this song without losing it. My dear friend Sgt. Matthew Straughter was k.i.a on February 9,2008. I hugged him the day he left and hugged his widow and children when he came home covered in a flag. My father is an Army vet, my brother is a staff Sgt. currently serving in the Army with one deployment, my other brother is an Air force vet with five deployments and my son in law is a Marine vet. I can never thank our military enough for what they do...I've seen the sacrifices... God bless them all.
