I used to walk home or to my destination a lot despite having a bus pass that would have allowed me to enter the bus "for free" at that point. I was Dana's age when doing this. I now know the reason I had all this energy (and impatience to wait for the bus) was due to being bipolar, which I was not diagnosed with until much later in life. Considering I grew up in L.A., I am actually incredibly lucky I didn't meet a similar end. I didn't hitchhike but I did walk several miles during these times in areas that are super sketchy. While I do understand that the police don't view the man (who claims to have witnessed everything) as providing a solid story, evidence, and consistency, I think it would depend. Memories from childhood, esp during traumatic times, don't recover in absolutes. They recover in fragmented bits with solid truth wrapped up in sometimes incorrect details. It does not mean his account at large is not true, it simply means not every detail is true as he recovered it. Also it is quite possible the 4 year old brother would remember none of it.

That's a good idea it's only in recent years some law enforcement agencies have done that found relatives and found the killers that way, for sure they would get relatives of the killer that way. Maddox Cove road, in 1981, was heavily wooded all the way to the shoulder of the road. Some details not mentioned here are the "dump" was about 300 meters from the paved road, up an inconspicuous old dirt lane and not visible from the paved road due to the trees. The entrance to the lane itself was very difficult to see by chance. Only people familiar with the area would know its there.

I'm sorry but having that car buried doesn't make sense unless something bad did happen in that car. And cops deciding that the car was nothing we found out is weird but not something I wouldn't expect from cops. They get stuck on things and cannot or will not change their view. Police are the worst investigators, because of their pride and childish stubbornness. I'm not saying every cops, but way too many. I'm 52 and have never myself or known anyone burying a car. The guy borrows the car and then it needs to be hurried? I've been to people's homes and when I got home I've wanted to shower and burn my clothes because of utter grossness. That car should be treated better than looked at, it should have been super CSI'd.

@tristmarie36563 жыл бұрын
@Lynn HHH okay great that’s what you think. After raising children and working with them my whole life 14 is a little girl. She’s underaged and calling underage girls women is a way to condition them to be older faster and for men to prey on them easier. Just like what they did to Millie Bobbie Brown. She wasn’t allowed to be a kid like her costars she thrust into being a “young women” and dressed her like she was a grown ass women. If you don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling a little girl a woman you’re unknowingly part of the problem. A 14 year old is underaged, and underdeveloped mentally and physically. There’s no changing my mind on that. Think what you want

@@helensieben3182 Sorry, but you're mistaken. A) Murders were *not* rare in Canada in the '80's. The homicide rate was higher in the 70's than now. B) Handguns are only rare among *law abiding* Canadians. They're almost universal in the criminal world. I've heard official statements that they cost over $3000 on the street which is nonsense. Any criminal who needs a handgun can buy a handgun.
@ProfoundConfusion4 жыл бұрын
Maybe *you* would never have hitchhiked in 1981 but countless thousands of young Americans used to hitchhike, especially if they lived in more rural areas or smaller cities. It was the same in Canada. (Most kids' parents would've had a fit if they knew their kids were taking rides from strangers, but it didn't stop teens from doing it.)
@ProfoundConfusion4 жыл бұрын
Yeah & the funny thing is that with cellphones & a violent crime rate that's actually lower today, hitchhiking is safer than it was in the 80s but nobody does it anymore. But we weren't raised with stories of serial killers & sexual predators, so we didn't even consider the possibility. Maybe it's the "perception" of danger that's changed. I don't know if hitchhiking was actually "statistically" dangerous .....sometimes common things like crossing a road are actually riskier than the things we worry about more.

95% of murders occur by someone they knew , it's not likely she was murdered by a stranger unless this was the doing of a serial killer. My intuition tells me it was either an acquaintance someone she has seen before or someone she knew through a friend . Murders don't occur at random . I don't believe she had her thumb out and perhaps the two men who witnessed her get into the car mis read the situation . My gut tells me the person recognized her and saw the opportunity and knew she'd get in the car as she most likely trusted the individual. I'm Canadian and know that in small towns like Newfoundland most know each other to some degree and back in the 80's it was more common to accept rides by an acquaintance especially in smaller communities in Canada. And that's why she was placed the way she was because the individual felt some level of remorse as he knew her . That's my theory based on intuition a feeling I get in my gut . I've almost never been wrong when I get these gut feelings about someone or a situation. The police were looking at all the wrong people . I hope one day her family will find closure and that she will finally be at peace .

Talk about spreading confusion. A POUND of salt vs a GRAIN of salt.... doesn't get more confusing than that. For some odd reason the RCMP didn't want that car excavated at all. They refuse to do the excavation of the vehicle claiming its been decades and there probably won't be evidence. What???....funds are raised by the public to finally dig this car up and while the car is literally being dug up the RCMP comes out with a break through that they found DNA. Something is fishy about this case. The fact the mother responds with "no comment" when asked questions about her daughters murder. I knw that doesn't hold any significance to the case but in a way it does because most parents wana get the word out there to the public that way u have a better chance of finding answers but she won't answer questions and only says "no comment" is just ridiculous. If the eyewitnesses to her getting into a car were telling the truth or at least gave an accurate description of the situation, it seems she stuck out her thumb and got into the car after talking to him for a while. Wouldn't she have been smiling and talking animatedly if she knew her killer? I agree the posing of her was just signature. She could have represented someone to him. He might be acting something out. What if he was molested as a child by a girl her age? Who knows what goes through a killer's mind. I do think he knew the area but left after the crime. If the police had put out an advisory that stated people should think about people who acted weird following the murder (the day of or day after) or even left the area, maybe they could have tracked someone down.

I'd hate to call anyone a liar because I doubt the alleged witness did it on purpose but at the same time I doubt the veracity of recovered memories.

I recovered my memories with self hypnosis. My body remembered and when I allowed myself to go through the feelings, my body had wild responses but right after they ended the memory would come instantly and completely. Like pieces of a puzzle coming together. Remembering saved my life, I was no longer hurting so bad that I wanted to die. We create so much pain for ourselves when we don't allow ourselves to really, fully feel our feelings.

I’m from Newfoundland. The police here always said they know who did it but they don’t have enough evidence to convict him . The police will always hung around his house, people in the neighbourhood would throw things at his house I heard, because many people knew he did it, his parents were my friend’s husband‘s grandparents, apparently many people put his parents through hell for years and years because they knew he was living in that house. So I asked my friend one day do you think he did it and she said oh yes and the police knows too . I was shocked . I do know that that man was a lot older than Dana . I’m assuming he is probably deceased now but I’m not sure.

Are you really doing an ad for weddings while showing the picture of the car and suspect of a killer? That screams Class if I've ever seen or heard it.

Why are they not is ng GEDMATCH to find the male line like they did the Golden State killer? I would pay out if pocket for the family if they do that..I know it's someone who has not been in trouble before..as his DNA does not give a hit..but they need to use familial DNA

False memory syndrome occurs rarely. And, it was "created" by the mother and father of a woman who claims her father molested her for many years. It's their way of diverting their abuse.
@lorimiller43014 жыл бұрын
@@melancholikak6844 exactly, who's going to believe a pee dough ? They will say absolutely anything to cover their crimes. They are liars. When you're hurt like that your body remembers to allow your brain to function until you feel safe enough to remember.

Nice to show a happy wedding ad in the middle of a story about a young girl's murder while showing photos of the alleged murderer. Hopefully none of her family members see this because it will only make them think of what her wedding would have been like. Poor taste.
