I think the community apathy _has_ a reason, and in that reason lies many of the answers to this sad case. What that reason is is the unanswered question!
@scottcantdance8042 жыл бұрын
@@pulaski1 I don't think a big conspiracy is likely... All those people knowing something and it not getting out, and all of them working together to hush things up, just doesn't sound very plausible to me. I think it's more likely that the real story is somewhat close to the events portrayed; police were told by various young people that she was seen after her disappearance and that she had planned to run away. So the police put out word that it wasn't a disappearance, but a runaway situation. Then parents, thinking it was just a runaway situation, didn't want their children talking to the police when they probably viewed it as 1) best case scenario, their children talking to the police doesn't help the situation and 2) worst case scenario, their children talking to the police could get them in legal trouble for something unrelated. What I really want to know is what was going on with the kids who told the police she had said she was going to run away, and who it was that claimed to have seen her after her disappearance. Because if it wasn't for those kids and what they told the police, it never would have flipped from a missing person, to runaway teen. I mean, did she just say something like she was planning on bailing on the second half of the school day, and the kids either didn't quite remember what she had said and misconstrued what she said to the police as her stating that she was planning on running away? Or did they tell the police that she had decided to skip the second half of the school day, and the police, out of laziness, decided to interpret that as her running away, assuming that she would most likely resurface later.
@pulaski12 жыл бұрын
@@scottcantdance804 But your questions and concerns overlap _precisely_ with mine when you asked "... What I really want to know is what was going on with the kids who told the police she had said she was going to run away, and who it was that claimed to have seen her after her disappearance. ...." and "... did she just say something like she was planning on bailing on the second half of the school day, and the kids either didn't quite remember what she had said and misconstrued what she said to the police as her stating that she was planning on running away? ..." It just seems too convenient to me that there was a cohesive-enough story reaching the police from multiple sources that the police were convinced that it really was a runaway sitution _without_ there being an underlying _reason_ for there being a cohesive story.

I don't know about conspiracy but it's clear locals had a U turn of an attitude. I listened to this when it came out on Spotify but seeing the young lady when she was alive and full of life? SHOCKING and gut wrenching. To think, how she ended up discarded, like she was unwanted? THAT smile and sunshine energy. One day someone destroyed her smile and the life which she had ahead of her. God knows how her parents coped knowing how she ended up AND then having to endure the lack of support from their own community. She was betrayed not once but twice. No doubt. My oldest daughter was kind of a troubled kid for a while. She spent about a year labeled a "chronic runaway." I would report her missing. The police would tell me, "She's fine. She's off with her friends." I would explain that her friends were dangerous adults (full on adults, in their 30s and 40s), willing to hide a teenager. I would beg the police to help me retrieve her. They treated my daughter as if she were disposable. They treated me like I deserved my heart ache. No one cared. It was a nightmare. Ultimately, my daughter grew out of her problems. But she didn't make it out unscathed, and I will never forgive the police or my community for their indifference.

I feel like crying. I’m so glad Steve expresses some of the outrage and disgust and pure unadulterated bewilderment I feel about the behavior of the people of the town. Did no one imagine for one moment how they’d feel if it was their child, their sibling? I cannot fathom what caused such apathy and straight up interfering in the investigation. Even if this 14 year old little girl was wayward and unpopular, even in that case, she’s a child. And beyond that, her parents (God rest their souls) were in agony. I have no words for such callousness. Maybe some were afraid their child was involved. Well, I have an almost 14 year old. If I thought for one moment she was making up sightings of a missing child, I would drag her to the police station myself because you know what? That’s a now or never moment. Those kids all learned selfishness and callousness and narrow mindedness from their parents throughout this ordeal, and I personally care enough about my child to want her to be shaken out of that

I get a feeling that there is a _huge_ hole in this story, that there is a _reason_ why there is nobody willing to break their silence and share what they know - I would guess that EITHER she was nowhere near as popular as she is being portrayed, and nobody cared about her enough to create waves in the community and open old wounds, OR there are reasons (threats from someone or a group) why nobody will come forwards to talk. If it was me, after the pasage of 40 years, I would find Laura's closest known associates, and haul them in for questioning, not directly about the death of Laura, but to find out _why_ there is apathy/ antipathy towards Laura and finding out what happened to her. .... I mean, if children were being told not to cooperate with the police, there _was_ a definite reason for it, which I would guess led to the conclusion that Laura "had it coming", or "was not worth the time worrying about" for some reason. Please note, I am NOT saying those are my opinions, only that apparently _many_ people in Lindenhurst had that view as evidenced by their actions.

She was riding in a car with her parents and three friends when gunfire broke out a block away and the bullet hit her in the chest. At such a young age, we act in a unconscious way as we are unable to measure risks due to lack of experience and maturity. Dismissing a "runaway" is criminally stupid. I get that police has a lot of fish to fry, but serious means should still be put into this kind of investigation, if not by the police, at least local brigades fully dedicated into solving such social issue! That being said, I believe the account that Laura wanted to run away is bullshit. The guy behind her fate (most likely that Alex) probably bullied others into peddling the narrative. He was a guy of the streets and knew how to defuse situations this way, probably. I hadn't realized how prevalent the shag still was in 84' While NY is notorious for the residents not getting involved. It is disturbing to hear how cold and detached the neighbors, friends and community were even after she was found. I have not heard of such a uninterested response to any missing person case. The things that bother me about children going missing is those who think it is hilarious to taunt the familes. Add to that lies about seeing the person afterwards. It seems that the people and teens in this community were malicious and fecitous. It almost indicates this young girl was not as popular as the family thought. But regardless of popularity or even if she were a run a away. She deserves better than the dismissal every one gave her. It is not surprising for law enforcement however. Even for a run away. Searches should have been conducted . I am baffled by the community concern of the other girl that went missing. Happily found. Then subsequent murders. My thoughts went to a possible accident. Granted. No obvious broken bones. But could she have been hit by a car and killed? Driver panics and disposed of her in the hole? However though. Even if she was still fully dressed. It could have been sexually motivated. Often the perpetrators redress the victim. Or she dressed herself and was smothered. Many possibilities. But unfortunately evidence lost . I don't understand why people think an assailant has a conscience. Many have committed rape and murder. Perhaps once. And lived their lives fully never looking back. And then DNA nails them. If this type of creature had a conscience. This would not have happened. My aunt and uncle raised their children on Long Island. But moved to North Carolina by the 80s. My whole family is from NY and the detachment is more of the big city. Not cozy little neighborhood. By now it is unlikely her brother will ever get answers. It is extremely sad her parents endured such pain and shunning. It was shameful of those people to treat them like that.

She was in a carpet in a hole where all the local kids hung out but magically no one went for four months after she disappeared. I don't think it was a random. I think she went somewhere to the local connect for drugs or alcohol, possibly with kids from her class and the killer tried to assault her and killed her. And that's why all the kids and their parents were misleading the police and refuse to say anything. They would have helped except it implicated their kids.

Really horrified about the behaviour of the people of Lindenhurst. How can those who turned their back on the Parkers live with themselves? I look at photos and it seems to me that Laura kind of isolated herself from the other girls in the picture where she in the very left corner. As opposed to the other photos she seems detached. Was she harassed by a class mate and it went wrong?? And could it be that more than one in Lindenhurst knows about it but wish to protect this someone?

I grew up in Lindenhurst when this occurred and I was 8 years old. I attended William Rall elementary school and learned about this the following school year. Very shortly after school had begun, us kids would stare through the chain link fences at a house which we kids believed the killer lived at. Day after day we would be on the playgrounds and stare at this house. Obviously whoever lived at that had NOTHING to do with this. What I learned yesterday however is how young kids, and teenagers intentionally gave the police wrong information. I believe that explains the reason why we stared at this house when we were kids. In short... absolutely unacceptable!!!

Sounds like Lindenhurst is a pit of vipers. I'm glad I don't live there and never will. I suspect all her friends all participated in her death because they ignored her and didn't care and still don't. Enemies behave with more compassion.

Laura Ann, such a beautiful smile. RIP 💔 Parker is my maiden name and we looked and had similar personality traits a lot alike at 14. I don't believe for a second that nobody went to the party spot all Summer into Fall. I'd seriously suspect any 'friends' that said they saw Laura after lunch on Wednesday.Correct! She didn't die by natural causes and then cover herself in a carpet. Laura 'friends' "we know what you did that Spring, Summer and Fall."

This case is heartbreaking and infuriating! The community may be close knit but it wasn't to Laura Ann Parker the way she was murdered and forgotten. I feel so very bad for her of course but also her family. I would love for some of these amazing cold case teams to get together and find her killer. Maybe some DNA from the carpet could be found and used now with the new technology. Maybe I'm grasping at straws but the not knowing must be so miserable for her family.

For a so-called "best friend" to Laura who wouldn't talk all this time, I'd have to say she probably knows exactly what happened to her. Shame on everyone in that town for not coming forward with information. I'm sure many people heard through the grapevine and we're aware of what happened that day. It's sad when a community would rather protect the killer and remain silent than help a grieving family by coming forward and saying what they know. Even if someone would have anonymously informed the police of what they knew, at least that would've been something. But even the police didn't really seem to care which is devastating in and of itself.

I know everything about Laura Parker and why she died people are afraid of the person who killed her it was a Spanish people there was a Spanish war going on in my town between me and the Spanish and she was told told not to tell me that Andre Gleason was going to kill her kill me instead he killed her because he caught her telling me in the back of the school so after I left he grabbed her and he took her and he killed her that's the real truth but they won't let me tell the real truth because the cops were involved in it and I can prove it

@antonglas7488 Жыл бұрын
My theory is this: Where Laura was found was a popular hang out with teens. At Laura`s school there were other students that held a grudge or disliked Laura. During the school lunch break Laura was lured to the spot by some other students who she knew, most likely other girls and maybe even Michael was involved. They held Laura down in the hole sitting on her back, her arm held behind her back and they pushed her face into the dirt until dying of suffocation. Their parents either knew or suspected their children were involved in the death and were told to keep quite and not cooperate with the police so a wall of silence was created. The school kept a low profile not wanting bad publicity. This is what I believed happened.
@EON3142 жыл бұрын
"In a place where nobody knows nothing, somebody knows something"-- Forgot who I'd say the real answer lies in why the entire town doesn't want to talk, I find it hard to believe no one wants to talk rather than that everyone can't talk because of somebody else. My guess would be to first look into any previous crimes in that police precincts database to discover any patterns like certain officers or individuals involved in crime that happened to Laura; where a string of missing persons occurred or another story about a girl who "ran away".
@rebeccagable9629 Жыл бұрын

How an entire community can just turn their backs on a grieving family and a missing and murdered child is beyond all comprehension. It's so fishy too. Was there a prominent family in the area with a son Laura's age? What about school star athletes? The fact that she was found in a common teen hang-out spot has me believing that the killer was another teen or someone who only recently became an adult; someone that the adults in the community had a vested interest in protecting.

What a heartbreaking story for Laura's parents to have been dismissed by EVERYONE when they needed their community the most. I can't imagine how helpless and alone they must have felt. At that time the crime victims rights movement was still in its infancy having just begun years before in the 70s. Luckily huge strides have been made in victim services since the 80s like AMBER alerts and victim advocates. 🇺🇲🇺🇲

I think it was probably one of the other kids. Laura went around asking if anybody would go with her. Obviously somebody did and since that’s a common hang out spot, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was one of the other kids. And that would explain why there is nobody that came forward aside from the fact that it’s a murder. But that’s just my thought.

The fact there are so many murderers walking around free because so many LE refuse to do their job and not investigate actual disappearances is so frustrating. I'll make it short. While tragic, it seems like her parents weren't as in tune with Laura as they thought. On the surface it looks like a young girl got involved with drugs and with older, drug dealing men who for one reason or another disposed of her dead body after a drug overdose or homicide. The lack of cooperation might come from a situation where potential subjects that should have been incarcerated already, but the system failed,so a dead teenager would have reflected poorly on the local judicial system.

My guess is this is a very deep, dark secret and even law enforcement knows what's happened, but have been given some sort of donation to the policeman's ball. Pathetic, that whole town, and those cops. I hope someone in that town finally gets a conscience and speaks up and clears this up for the one remaining family member, Laura's brother.
