Popped over from Paul's video. Thanks for the deconstruction. There's plenty to learn from videos like this and I really appreciate it. Good luck with your channel :) Michael

They say that Ableton's a tricky DAW for beginners but I personally stuck with it because of the variety of tutorials and general support it gets. Thank you for the great video!

I think the trickiness to beginners comes from the Session View, something people are not use to seeing or using compared to the regular timeline (Arrangement View). Once that is overcome though, it works pretty much like most DAWs :).

Jean, this is awesome. Really good, but quite advanced stuff. Could you please recommend someone on youtube who does such as good videos as yours but about reeeealy simple concepts in recording, mixing and mastering? Much appreciated!

Thank you Dmirtry! I'm currently not aware of other channels, although I'm sure they're out there. What would you specifically like to know about regarding recording?

SoundSuite I record takes at home and they sound different. How to make the whole part consistent? And other basic stuff like which inserts do what and how I should place them, in which order. How to edit with melodyne and so on

Subbed. As I stated on Paul's channel, I've had Ableton for over a decade, but besides just getting a track into it ( I'm a guitarist ) I have never been able to grasp how to take multiple tracks, put them together, or how to actually build a simple song, use EZdrummer2 effectively, or go beyond just recording a guitar track. There are many times, I have issues just recording a simple guitar track. After watching you and Paul work, I figured I MAY be able to pick up a few things here...but not really quite sure. I've watched MANY videos, but it just may be too deep for me... hope your channel does well....

Thank you! I'm thinking of making a video sometime about clearing some of that stuff up; recording effectively in Live, but also the technical settings in the Preferences that can be of good help once understood. I'm definitely going to do more about programming drums in Live as well, mainly with Addictive Drums 2 and AD2 Suite, however I also want to port AD2 Suite to other drumkit plug-ins in the future.

I appreciate you replying.. I realize your an Electronic Musician, which differs greatly to straight rock/metal recording. To give an idea, I've been actively looking for tuts on using Ableton live for recording, and there is ALOT of stuff out there, but what would be a great benefit to users who are just starting out, without alot of production background are tutorials in just starting out, ( getting a guitar track into Ableton, ) then maybe moving to higher levels of production. ( adding a second rhythm track, then maybe a drum track, a bass track..etc ...then a simple post production on those, adding a vocal...post on that, then a simple mix..) As a very old guitarist, I can get a track into Ableton, but adding tracks, arranging them into a very basic song, adding drum tracks, and mixing, side chaining, and EQ'ing them to a decent first production recording of a created song, is just not out there. Simple things like trying to record a track, but having to turn Off monitoring, so you can hear your guitar, using Bias AMP EFX or Bias AMP 2 is just not out there. Or why...anyway, without getting too specific, Thanks, and as your a Certified Ableton trainer, I'm hoping I can FINALLY, after a decade or more, start recording guitars, bass, drums, and vocals into my DAW, and being able to get a simple, even badly recorded song into Ableton. I know this is alot.. but thats what I'm looking to try to achieve. I subbed to see if theres anything I can learn from you. I no longer have the people or places to do the old tape recording I was used to in the past, and on my own, am trying to learn to start creating music again after many years....I'm buying a Push 2 soon, hoping this will make Ableton live easier for me to do simple things like recording guitars, a bass, drum sims, and vocals, with easier access to production work in the process.....thanks for the response... again, I hope you do well, I'm on board....

Great video! I’ve just got into home recording and this will sure help me a ton. One question, what is the optimal level for a guitar track and master volume? I read that I should be recording guitars at about -18~db but that just seems a bit too low for me. Thanks in advance
@SoundSuite5 жыл бұрын
Hey Leonardo, thanks for tuning in :). Always try to leave your master volume at 0dB. Lower the volume of your channels to prevent the master from going into the red. As for recording; while playing at your loudest, set the preamp in such a way that it doesn't clip, ever. The more volume you get out of the recording, the better. Just make sure it's not too loud as clipping cannot be fixed after the fact.
