Yes, resist the temptation to put extra lines, sidings etc, in to where you've planned the rural section. Real railways run through rural settings much more than they do through towns etc, and not many people model that, though of course not everyone has the space to do so. You do however, and I think it would look really good to have trains running through the countryside, then in to your town area. Great work on the redesign too, you have really transformed your layout.

Amazing, I love your layout and I cannot wait to see it progress. I think on your rural section keep it to the two tracks and go to town on scenery, go for some sweeping rolling hills or even a cliff/cutting kind of thing, a nice thing like that on one side would look sweet.
@MrVinnyh6 жыл бұрын
On your question on extra sidings (ballast Yard) I think it would be too much, farmers fields make a scenic break and a relief to the eye. Keep the TMD short and sweet, don't forget staff car-parking will take a bit of room. I struggled to visualizes were the tracks were going to go! but once Hatton's track team had done their magic it looks good. My own layout Black Robin has just been totally lifted from being around the spare bedroom, it will now be a shorter end to fiddle yard lay-out. I found the section by the door way was a obstruction (had intended the build a bridge section, never done), which was stopping me entering the Black Robin room and progressing with the lay-out. The name Black Robin comes from a pub in Kent after a gang of Hi-way men. which intrigued me when I drove past Black Robin Lane on the A2.

Regarding the rural section, I would try some hills and more variant levels rather than keeping it flat. Also, between the TMD and the crossover, perhaps a few houses as a town that size probably wouldn't end without some form of housing. You have made fab progress and I look forward to more!
@DuanLeadingham6 жыл бұрын
In the space u could have some abandoned sidings with the rails in paint to look rusted and have lots of grass inbetween covering it up and then a fence then some country side hills
@mosherlad6 жыл бұрын
I agree with keeping the area basic scenery otherwise it will end up too cluttered. Also with the tmd area you've put the 5 roads I know it is loosely placed but I think it would be worth dropping the one closest to the board edge as it looks a bit levered in. Great video with speedy progress. David

Great to see more progress, especially in the heat! Perhaps you could have a farm in the area that ballast Sidings were suggested, to keep with the rural theme? As a farm offers plenty of variety - from farming animals to crops. You could have a tractor harvesting up the crops or a Land Rover with a farmer checking up on the cattle or sheep? Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work and look forward to more. All the best - Jordan

Great looking layout, I wouldn't add anymore track, I would add embankments and make it more rural. I would however change the track leaving the TMD area going through towards to rural area by straightening it out and making the turnout a little closer to the TMD area. Keep up the good work, Steve

from watching the last video when you said you was going to rip it up I was confused on what you had planned but from this update I can see where your wanting the layout to go in terms of progression scenic's and running trains, the new section looks really good don't know if you could bank it slightly and have the scenic's around that part as a cutting so when your HST goes through looks like its snaking through the country side possibly have a small road on the back section or even the front with a few train spotters standing at the side taking photo's, I agree with what UK DIESEL AND ELECTRIC Railway modelling has said about a catch point or a head shunt as they prototypical and would look good as a sand drag thanks for sharing will re-watch this video again when I come to laying out my fiddle yard when I come to it as it will help me with track thanks again Beeton Hough Junction (Dave C)

Great development! The new exit from the goods yard needs a trap siding to protect the main line. Maybe with a sand drag. I would keep the new section simple countryside to balance out the layout. In real life there is probably 90% plain track and only 10% stations, siding and junctions.

Excellent progress on the layout. On the new section I would keep it simple, landscape or perhaps a small industrial estate, just slightly higher than track level and scenery as well of course. Have you thought about putting a cant on the curved track? Would look good with a Voyager unit going round it. Keith

If you want countryside why not at the rear small hills with trees and maybe fields with cows in the front could be just plain fields on very shallow hills so it looks like a small cutting

Looking brill, I'd leave the new track as is, with maybe an shallow cutting/embankment each side. Btw, is the far headshunt on the Nuclear flask area long enough for a flask and loco to enable a shunt to be made to the siding by the road?
@GowertonParkway6 жыл бұрын
Mark Herbert Thanks Mark , I was thinking a cutting may be the order of the day. Regarding the flasks , No , that siding is use as loco stabling only.

Lot of good progress again. I'd leave that scenic area pretty sparse. You've got a lot of other sections that are fairly busy and have a lot going on, so would be good to have just a quiet scenic break where you can watch trains go by. Iain

sub39h Hiya , look up Bridgwater & Southminster. The Nuclear flaskdepots are as close to the station , if not closer than on my layout.
@ukdieselandelectricrailway18906 жыл бұрын
That's looking really good... and thanks for the mention... always pleased to help a fellow modeller! I agree with you... leave that section for scenery only. It's oh-so-easy to clutter a layout with track and 'focus points'. My only criticism (and it's a small one), is that where the track from the yard joins on the mainline (at the new sceneic section)... you could do with a catch point, or a short headshunt. These are used to prevent runaway wagons/locos from running onto the mainline and causing a disaster. If you have a spare right-hand point, you can have a short headshunt and for something a bit different, you could have a sand drag, where the track goes into a pile of sand so runaways dig into the sand dragging the train to quick stop. www.flickr.com/photos/jaybee-1958/6112884194/

please, please no more track, prob too much as it is now. oh and isn't the track just a bit too close to the edge of the baseboard in the fiddle yard?
@GowertonParkway6 жыл бұрын
NS3644 Where do you feel there is too much track ?
@NS36446 жыл бұрын
the fiddle yard for one, if you needed more room to put your rolling stock then maybe a helix downwards with a staging yard under the layout. Also you mentioned a country setting but how many country areas do you see with so much track. The freight yard and terminus is more suited to city areas rather than country areas. The more UK based layouts I see on youtube the more i notice they tend to cram nearly every square inch of layout with track rather than scenery. just my 2 cents worth.
@GowertonParkway6 жыл бұрын
NS3644 I'm not sure I follow your points ... The freight yard is at the city end , and the country area is 2 track main line with a feed to a branch line. I don't feel that 2 tracks on a 2 ft board is too much track . Re the fiddle yard , the idea of it is to give as much storage as possible , hence the 9 roads. As this is non scenic it doesn't matter.
@gregward21866 жыл бұрын
