Charlie, the ariel views are of Barnstaple Junction, not Victoria Road. By the way, you need a trap point between the double slip and the goods yard, to protect the passenger-carrying lines. You could always just insert a dummy one if you like. Looks like you'd have room for a headshunt though.

Just found these videos. You had your Barnstaples mixed up, Victoria Road is now a car park, it was a lot bigger than 3 coaches 7 at least and handled through trains to Ilfracombe post war. Now engine came on the back and took the other approach line to Barnstaple Junction, shown by the main road, once handled 10 coach rains, now just a single track. Your scenery is Excellent

Charlie, I've literally just finished building the baseboards and upper level (only taken me two years) and have had to drill and countersink every screw, and NOW you tell me about those drill bits!!!!!!!! lol! Hi Charlie. Hope you and all your family are well? That was really interesting on how you’ve built a small ramp so as it’s not all on the flat lands. Barnstaple junction station in its day was fantastic and glad your replicating if only in a small way. I can recall visiting the station back in 1974 as my Mum lived in IIfracombe but unfortunately I had to catch the bus as the line was closed but not lifted. It’s a shame it didn’t get preserved as a heritage line. I think they tried but didn’t have any success as the line has gone now 😫 Take care until the next exciting episode of Chadwick. HI Charlie Modifying peco points As you describe also prevents short circuits with stock that has larger wheels. I originally left the point as original and placed insulated joiners on the frog rails However, the point blades both assume the same polarity and are thepolarity of the rail that they are switched to(if that makes sense). There now is only a small gap between a point blade and a nearby rail and they are different polarity A overscale metal wheel especially at speed and on a curve Will short this out . Intermittently!!! Took me A very annoying time to Work this out. Keep up the good work Howard

Small "OOPs" there Charlie. Barnstaple Victoria Rd was the Other line into Barnstaple with the GWR. Beaching took care of this. Barnstaple Junction is the one you are showing the live footage of. There is still a Rail bridge over the river Taw which joined the Two together at one time.

Excellent update again Charlie and great progress! Barnstaple track layout looks really good and well engineered ... and the baseboard and supports appear nuclear blast proof! (perhaps a test required with a nuclear flask to the good siding?! 😜) I’ve never seen those countersink drill bit combination: excellent idea and I’ve just ordered a set ... I wonder if the manufacturer are confused today with a rush of orders! Good luck with the next stage of the project 👍 Regards, Mark

Hi Charlie, loving your work. A little tip I use for checking your track is straight is use a small mirror so you can see down the line without have to be a gymnast look down to see if the track has no cinks in it. Looking forward to the next video

Thanks Charlie, another interesting and informative video. Watching you check your track for kinks reminded me of a great tip from track building guru Norman Solomon who suggested using a small mirror, like a ladies handbag makeup mirror. Hold the mirror against your track facing towards you beyond what you’re building and it effectively doubles the length you’re looking down. The longer view makes any kinks stand out much more. Harder to explain than do, borrow a mirror off of Mrs B and give it a try. Best regards Simon

Hi Charlie very good video nice to get a little refresher on the points, I know you have done ballasting already but a good one would be to cover ballasting points which is a nervy one for most by the way it was me mentioned the car hoover from halfords and you still haven't named me and it wasn't ridicule it was a helpful tip at the time you were fighting the missus for her tights to wrap around her hoover. As usual, loved the video. Now that was some serious over engineering but I see the logic to using all the scrap timber. I have to say I think that that is the best modellers clamp I have seen for a long time. think they might make a slightly bigger one. The thought of you using that to make a tiny "n" gauge wagon got me chuckling. For the last week I have been going the other way and started to construct a prototype open plan layout entirely from 5mm ply. I am lucky and have a decent 300 x 400 laser cutter so I can very quickly cut out all the intricate shapes needed to get real strength into the structure. I intend to make it fully modular with a small number of totally interchangeable parts that can be assembled in to any shape. I have already designed and cut out the prototypes for the base board framework, track elevator frames and some standard track work bases, It is so easy and quick with the laser doing all the heavy lifting. It all weighs next to nothing but I was concerned with strength so the first thing was a prototype of a 900 x 600 base board frame. To test that frame I mounted my 90kg Laser on it and after almost a week the laser is still at its original height and all is well, no sagging or cracking and all with 5mm ply box sections. However as an ex-civil engineer I fully remember what eventually happened to the box girder bridges all around the world. So fingers crossed and hopefully the laser will stay safe and well on its new support frame. Keep the video coming as they do brighten up the tedium of Covid restriction in this part of southern France.
