Sadly it's Motorsport and the marshal put himself in danger by not reliasing other bikes were crashing at the same time. Glad the marshal was ok as that's the main thing just hope this can be avoided in future

@@ukmotorsportcrashes4203 idk but somehow thats a dick answere, i mean. The marshalls dont do anything on there own. At leats in formula one. And to say Something like that to a marshall and a friend of that guy idk man. You blame him. Why? So i could be wrong, but idk. I just have something against that answere, but i get offended quickly right now so it could be that im just stupid

@@Jasongilliar everyone has an opinion mate and you've got offended about it which is fair enough! In my opinion the marshal should have been a little more aware of his surroundings and usually there's more marshals to help with that. For some reason there wasn't many marshal's plus yellow flags in wrong places. There's alot of wrong to happen to cause this. I blame the marshal and don't because they have a job to do just needed to be more aware of other bikes possibly crashing is the only thing I find his fault which in the moment is really hard so I don't disrespect the marshal in this crash but yeah alot could have been better to prevent this 👍

@@ukmotorsportcrashes4203 yeah man there youre right, and i didnt mean to insult you if i did, just didnt know how to tell it in proper english because im from germany, so if i did sorry, just wanted to say that again because i didnt knew how i could tell it in the first text i wrote, but yeah the thing is we dont know what they where really doing, we see the Video and than tell something, but they see it in pov and need to look that every driver is okay, and for its easy to say from the outside. And we dont know what the people there was thinking, but yeah it could be better. But were all human so yeah. But i respect your opinion for sure

Why did the Marshall went out without waiting for a yellow flag?
@AndrewLewer90
@AndrewLewer90 Жыл бұрын
For me, it's the lack of safety. No double waved flags and marshals on the outside of a turn when bikes are still racing. Add treacherous conditions, making the track really hard to navigate, and it's a miracle nobody got hurt.

I worked as a marshal on a short oval where the racing is much more chaotic an imo they shouldn't have gone running out next to a live raceway like that we all want to help but rule no1 keep yourself safe, also race control should have noticed there was oils down and neutralised the race before marshals came over the fence. I know it's more difficult with bikes as riders are laying in track and instinctively you want to run to there aid but if you don't protect yourself then you could end up with multiple injured people

As someone who’s marshaled for over 30 years from the 1980s to 2015, all over the UK and IOM this is why I never turned my back to the track. It can happen in the blink of an eye. I’ve almost seen my Dad be wiped out by a bike while marshaling at Brands Hatch. Lucky my sister stopped him from stepping out from behind the tyre wall. So glad to see that marshal was ok. It’s bloody scary at times.

Luckily it looked more a glancing blow, would have been a lot worse if it was full on. I don't know the actual training of the marshals but I would have thought they would be trained never to turn their back on any oncoming traffic. At least have a marshal looking that way who can warn any marshals if another bike is crashing towards them. Accidents happen but it does appear this was avoidable. Glad the marshal is ok though and I am by no means demeaning or criticizing him, just maybe something to learn by so it doesn't happen again. We have to remember all the marshals do it for free and on their own time, sometimes having to have days off work to attend these meetings.

Hey, I am doing a Masters thesis in Motorsport Engineering. I am designing a system that can automatically detect marshal's on the track (and also stopped cars/bikes) which can then alert race control and the bikes/cars on the track to prevent fatal accidents. This is a great example of why such a system is necessary, just wondering if it is okay to use it in my thesis ? I will reference you

I have no sympathy towards this individual as he turned his back on the circuit traffic breaking all the rules a marshal has ever been taught! This guy needs to be removed and re-trained. That was close but shouldn't hit him, or at least it went on his feet. If the bike really hitted him he would been twisting and fall, for sure on that speed. But was his bad, one fondamental rule is ALWAYS face traffic, specially on track side marshaling, cus anyone can come any second. Hillclimbs and Rallyes are less common cus of the distance of 1 min or 30 sec between cars so ya have a small window, but track side is hell.

@@ukmotorsportcrashes4203 while i agree, brands hatch needs some serious safety changed. in the last 5 years EIGHTEEN cars have had crashes which resulted in them leaving the track, including 1 fatality. the barriers are very outdated, and need to be updated. also, while not in the last 5 years, in 2012 there was a crash in which 2 cars left the track, one striking a marshal post and one going over the wall, through the fence, through the spectator area, and into the carpark. these 20+ accidents would be understandable if they were rare occurrences, but it is far to common to just be a coincidence. its only a matter of time before another disaster.

@Drughal im sorry but you are wrong. business of a track has very little impact on a fact like this, and this isnt about driver safety, its about spectator and marshal safety. there is no defending this.
@etherealaim
@etherealaim Жыл бұрын
@Drughal @Drughal yes, but that doesnt really factor in. if we were looking at normal crashes, it would, but cars going over the wall is a VERY rare occurrence. im doing research for a video, ive found about 200, everything from jimmy horton at talladega to some unknown driver in an unknown series in 1989 in argentina. of every track ive researched, brands hatch has BY FAR the most. even more than the nurburgring, which is a track that also employs the use of nearly exclusively guardrails and armco, and not only holds more racing, but also track days to the public all year round. think how many cars and races have happened throughout the existence of the nurburgring, now factor in the MILLIONS of people who have regulary driven it. even so, the numbers arent even close, despite the fact that they use very similar barriers. and, before you make the filming argument, nearly every track day over the last 10 years of nurburgring has been recorded by amateurs, and when comparing the nurburgring numbers (3 out of track crashes over the last 10 years, 1 fatality ((spectator)) compared to brands hatch (18 over the last 6 years, 1 fatality ((marshal)) the problem is very apparent. it really is undefendable, stop making excuses for lapses in safety which have resulted in tragedy and will likely result in even bigger tragedy if not changed. weve had cars enter spectator zones at brands hatch before, now imagine if some of thoses cars hit crowded places, or grandstands. its undefendable, so stop trying to defend it.

This is unacceptable in every way. I get its not a top end series but that's crazy. Not to mention the skill set of the riders being where they shouldn't be on a bike in the pits when it's wet. The level of unavoidable danger in motorsports is far to high to have tracks allowing activities like this.
