Nice build. How important is the V mount if you already have all other coolant mods with vented hood? (E85) @ 300 - 350WHP. It would be great to see some video of this Miata on track.

Its only important if you see uneven temps or high temps on track. With uneven I mean high temperature peaks in intake temps.

MX-5s/Miatas one of the best Sports cars /Drivers cars ever made! (Based on the old British Sports cars like the MGs etc) Even "Top Gear" back in the early 2000s Stated the ONLY better driver's car/sports car is the Porsche 911! And in their words "And thats 4x the price and only barely better, for balance and weigh distribution, handling and for PURE fun!" MX-5 had their own racecar 'series' for about 25 years! I owned one brand new a MK2.5 back in 2004/05 one of the last ones of the Mk2.5 1.6ltr 6speed manual (as was the better engine over the 1.8) and it was FANTASTIC! I only jad it two and half years traded it for a BMW (Which i STILL have!) But i miss the MX-5 ever since! Even looked to see if i coild buy it back but cant find it still registered so either now a track car, or written off id guess. If definitely buy another! Both me and my brother bought one two years apart and owned them at same time, both went 1.6ltr havung friven both and on asvice from Mazda and owners club, mine was fully kitted out all sports extras and matching hardtop, i drobe it year round even in snow amd ice! So much fun on twisty country roads! And surprisingly comfortable on long motorway drives aswell! Did a coiple of 4 hour drives in it up to north of England and back and it cruised at 100/110mph no problem. I REALLY want buy another if i can find a mk2.5 thats not rusted away Achilles heal of the MX5 chassis rails and rear arches usually £1000 welding job and they will all need it at some point unless they never see wet! But to buy one and just tweak it with maybe a turbo or supercharger race exhaust, or possibly a Honda Swap (which should also drop in) slightly wider wheels, but leave it looking stock/weight/balance etc, something that can tackle the Nürburgring in German would be ideal! 👌😎 Cheers from London 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Customer says dont cut the hood, i dont cut the hood 😅. IAT stays sub 140F in peak summer, splash of cornmagic and the motor doesnt care. As a service provider my hands are tied sometimes, but I agree

Certainly possible to use a skunk2 or fabricated intake manifold but ive found good results in the midrange with oem runner manifolds from increased airspeed. Im sure at a higher power target you will hit a volume restriction in the topend of flow but thats far above our target in this case

That factory motor is the cars weakest link performance wise. But with a strong enough bottom end and enough turbo and e85 anything can make power these days

Yeah, I've watched those race for YEARS at the SCCA Runoffs. As solid a car as the miata already is, you spec it out like this, the power to weight ratio is as strong as any car on any track (outside F1 n such, lets not get carried away lol) Now I'm like you, I like stuff that is weird and not normally thought of as a fast car, being made a sleeper or just a really unique fast car. But with the Miata I make an exception. That's a car that most people look at as a girl's convertible sportscar out of the factory, but it's rolling off the assembly line just begging for steroids and rage... I've seen some gorgeous Miata builds in my day, and though I'd never personally own one (I'm too tall) I do really appreciate what someone can do with these simply and cheaply... Especially as someone who's into getting more people to take their cars to the track and time attack, hot lap or race their cars in a safe place where they can learn to control it and do it the right way. The Miata is one of THE best platforms for grassroots road racing bar none...

Definitely viable cars and widely used. I cant help but enjoy them when ive built them but its not really a car that moves the needle for me, probably because I dont fit comfortably in them to start.

Hey man. What gearbox is this car running? I have a full weight NA only running a 225 tyre on 9" rim and as soon as i got over 350whp I'd break a gearbox every other time I took the car out. 5spd, 6spd same same. Now have BMW box (then broke diff housing).

This is a 6spd miata box for now and definitely on borrowed time but we keep the mounts soft to cut down of drivetrain shock as well as using a spring disc clutch. The main failure point on the aisin az6 boxes are the main/counter shaft bearing back plate pushing out with shock. The old remedy was a steel version of the backplate that was an rx8 part number but mazda has since discontinued. There is a company in lousiana or something that makes a billet version, I cant recall the name.
