In just a few years, just imagine the new Siemens Charger train sets recently purchased by Via Rail running even faster at a full 110 mph or 177 kph on high frequency dedicated tracks between Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City! Passenger rail enthusiasts really look forward to that day since this project will provide an affordable, more environmentally-friendly, faster, more relevant, reliable and safer travel choice to Canadians!

Reading that last part, and I think of how much better VIA is compared to Amtrak. Amtrak is almost always late, VIA is not. Amtrak has a horrendous crash record compared to VIA, which has very few crashes.

@@anniebellemiller2986 We still have a long way to go here in Canada in terms of properly funding our passenger rail system so as to approximate the outstanding level of service that exists in most European countries such as Sweden, which actually has much less population than that of Canada!

@@edylk2498 Unfortunately, these Siemens Charger train sets will very likely be limited to 177 kph or 110 mph as this is the maximum permissible speed for operation on class 6 rail infrastructure with crossings, in order for keep construction costs at a minimum. It's sad that we can't take advantage of the full capabilities of these Charger train sets at this time due to the political environment in which passenger rail rests in Canada. Maybe, after a few years of operation with HFR, the decision will then be made to provide the necessary funding so as to increase speeds to 200 kph or 125 mph.

That's the basic corridor setup. These are all intercity services between Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal. The only VIA trains that are longer are the long distance trains like the Ocean and Canadian.
